Who says that the Cancellation Bear always brings bad news? He's starting off the 2013-14 season with only good news!

Hart Of Dixie is certain to be renewed at the end of the 2013-14 season.

The show will begin its third season in 2013-14. At the end of this season, it will be within one more full season  of the 88 episodes (give or take a couple) which currently seems to be the minimum for extra profitable stripped syndication. Produced by both CBS and Warner Brothers (co-owners of the CW), the show's a cinch to get a fourth season.

In other certainty news, it has already been announced that the 2013-14 season will be Nikita's final one.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I think Hart will last more than just 4 seasons. It’s the highest rated show on the CW that doesn’t involve supernatural of sci-fi, so I can see it lasting 2 or 3 more seasons.

  • Adrian Warhol

Nikita didn’t get a full forth season despite being near the magical 88 number. So why should Hart of Dixie? Perhaps we need to stop thinking of The CW in traditional terms as clearly they are working in a different business model to the the rest of the networks.

  • Alan

@Adrian because HoD still has higher ratings, and Nikita may not be cheap to produce. At least fans are getting a closure! 90210 didn’t got a proper ending.

  • Maximillian

    @Adrian Warhol,

The point here is Nikita got renewed for a 4th season. Even if it is a short season. Also, shows can get sold into syndication if they are close to 88 episodes.

  • Bill Gorman

“Nikita didn’t get a full forth season despite being near the magical 88 number. So why should Hart of Dixie?”

The bear doesn’t predict episode order numbers. Only renewal or cancellation.

Nikita was renewed. Hart of Dixie will be renewed.

  • Dan

Hart of Dixie s doing better than Nikita was likely because HOD is airing Mondays and Nikita is on Fridays. HOD will still get the full fourth season.

If BATB plays its cards right and does well enough it will be the next HOD come next season.

I so agree–if Nikita was nenewed, so will HOD be as well

  • Sel

I only hope it’s not going to be the train wreck like Nikita. I know that the next season is going to be the last one but I want it to exit with dignity and the usual 0.6/0.5 (1.5 mil) kind of numbers.

  • Fake Me Out

Sometimes we need to invent new or adapt old words to fit new situations … I therefore offer up the word seasonette to describe the pity/profit 6 episode renewal Nikita got … I mean, lets be honest … 6 eps on US TV ain’t no season.

I shall actually miss some of the crazed comments from the fanboyz as well as the occasional poking of said fanboyz … and with ONLY 6 episodes I suggest we poke early and poke often to meet our annual Nikita trolling quota. :-)

  • JJA

@Sel–I’d be more worried about HOD “jumping the shark” the way Gossip Girl did.

Nikita may have had low ratings, but its plots, acting and production quality have always been above average. We fans have never been let down.

  • Ytr

I love HOD, I want it to have more than 4 seasons, but I’m not complaining :D

  • bk8718

Bit suprised you didn’t list TVD as certain too. Unless you’re deliberately holding out until next week so that you can add fresh eyeballs to the page.

  • jason50

Yes I will miss Nikita after this year as well as all the trolling and crazy fans, it made things fun in this comment section.

One thing I’m wondering about is will Beauty and the Beast get the same amount of hate as last season or is a new show going to replace it. It won’t be the Originals. I caught the pilots for The 100 and Tomorrow People and both were decent. So my guess would be either Reign or Star Crossed.

  • Jared

If Hart of Dixie and BATB can hold up well on Monday nights with similar total viewers and demos than I see both series getting renewed for another season.

  • TimsDale4ever

Well those 10 people should be happy…

  • June

    Thanks Timsdale4ever sure am. :)

Never thought Hart would be in this position when it first aired.

  • DM

The Vampire Diaries is in its 5th season. It’s not guaranteed anything, it has to air before it’s renewal status can be predicted. Hart of Dixie has the syndication gods on its side, that’s why it’s certain.

  • halloween

As long as CW is alive, TVD and Arrow are also certain renewals even if they don’t get a full 22 episode order to comeback.

Beauty and Beast on Mondays, a dead night for cw and Carrie Diaries in death slot are both almost certain cancellation , unless all new shows FLOP

  • zath

TBATB and HOD are going to be slaughtered on Monday lol, good idea pairing trash together, will avoid this CW night altogether.

  • Nasir

I wonder which cable network would pick up HOD for syndication.
