Who says that the Cancellation Bear always brings bad news? He's starting off the 2013-14 season with only good news!

Hart Of Dixie is certain to be renewed at the end of the 2013-14 season.

The show will begin its third season in 2013-14. At the end of this season, it will be within one more full season  of the 88 episodes (give or take a couple) which currently seems to be the minimum for extra profitable stripped syndication. Produced by both CBS and Warner Brothers (co-owners of the CW), the show's a cinch to get a fourth season.

In other certainty news, it has already been announced that the 2013-14 season will be Nikita's final one.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @Dollface
Just curious what numbers do you think HoD would do on fridays ?

  • AO

Hart of Dixie ended last year as the 5th highest rated scripted show, out of 11, on the CW. It was only barely behind Beauty & The Beast.

Hart of Dixie has had 2 years paired with weaker rated shows, against strong Monday & Tuesday competition and has managed to garner ratings that have been better than at least half the other shows on it’s Network.

Why would the CW be in a rush to cancel it exactly?

  • Dollface

Oh jon its gonna tank on fridays but not as bad as nikita I don’t get it they gave it a send off and had it been on one of the big three nikita would have been yanked. Its like the secrete circle all over again lol. But ya hod would tank on fridays but I don’t see cw dumping. It before season 4 now after that idk . Its an ok show I can take it or leave it but I think people like it the way they liked gilmore girls

  • Jon

    @ Dollface
Trust me on this HoD would have done just as bad or worse than Nikita on fridays and every CW show would have been yanked on the big 3 networks even TVD ;-)

  • Brandy

HoD would do fine on Fri.Its gone up against NCIS,The Voice(two very high rated shows) plus abcfamys similarly female /young female skewing shows and stayed stable at 0.5_0.6 for two seasons.Nikita tanked on fri cause by the end of season one, had lost a lot of its viewers.HoD fans followed it to Tues and will follow it back to Mon.
To the ealier poster saying HoD will be slaughtered on Mon, you realize it was on Mon in its first season right and managed to do ok.

  • Jon

That 0.5 and 0.6 would be translated to 0.3 and 0.4 on fridays ;-)

  • Ryan

Most CW shows would tank on Fridays. Smallville and Supernatural are the only ones to perform decently. Watch the Carrie Diaries pull 0.1 consistently. Outside of Supernatural, Arrow, and the Vampire Diaries, I expect any CW show to get Nikita-esque numbers on Fridays.

  • Elijah

I REALLY hope Beauty and the Beast can get renewed for a full 22 episode third season at the end of this season! Such a great show, I am a straight guy and I LOVE it.

  • Tessa

This confuses me. Why just HOD? Have you guys heard something, because I would think the surest guess would be The Vampire Diaries.

  • Elijah

    @Tessa
It’s because Hart of Dixie will have 3 full seasons and is just short of one full season from syndication. Four full seasons of around 88 episodes is usually the minimum needed for stripped syndication. Look up past shows and see how many were cancelled after 3 full seasons.

“This confuses me. Why just HOD? Have you guys heard something, because I would think the surest guess would be The Vampire Diaries.”

Predictions this week were confined to shows that are entering their third season and so presumably are guaranteed a fourth season for syndication purposes, plus shows that aired episodes last week (which CW shows did not, they do not premiere until October or later).

  • Adir

I think this season will be the last season.

  • Alan

    My predictions:

    RENEWED:
The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Hart of Dixie, Arrow, The Tomorrow Peopl (it’s a hit already, it’s CW’s most expected new show) and Supernatural (FINAL SEASON), and maybe one of BATB or TCD if midseason shows fail.

    CANCELLED:
Reign (terrible idea, terrible promos), nobody will watch it, The Carrie Diaries, Beauty and the Beast (if midseason shows do well, both will get cancelled) and one of Starcrossed and The 100 (the one that does better gets renewed and the other one gets cancelled, or if both fail, both get cancelled and they renew TCD or BATB)

  • Alan

It was a terrible idea to pick up Reign over the Selection. At least the Selection has people looking forward to that show, like readers or fans of the author.

  • Tom

“I am a straight guy and I LOVE it (BATB).”

    @ Elijah

You crack me up! What makes you believe that gays would ever be predisposed to watching a pathetic spectacle like BATB? Use your head, man!

  • Ren

Arrow and supernatural have spin offs in development, if it all goes well, places will be limited, also if TTP And TO perform well. Dixie would have to move to Friday if renewed and die there

  • Elijah

    @Tom

Because I like it? Because I like Kristin Kreuk and find her attractive?

  • Adrian

“I am a straight guy and I LOVE it (BATB).”

As a gay man, I feel offended by that comment. As if I was obligated to like a mediocre show like BATB just because the “beast” is hot (which, IMO, he’s not). [/rant]

Anyway, I wonder who will be the new crazy fans that will troll the renew/cancel index with messages about their flop show being renewed.

  • starship

I hate all the “if this and that was on one of the Big 4 it would have been cancelled a long time ago” comments for every CW show. If they were on one of the Big 4, their ratings would be completely different, so it’s irrelevant. They’re on the CW, so their ratings should be looked at in the context of other CW shows. It’s way too early to tell if any of the new shows will be successful. In theory, they could all flop, so unless HoD drops ridiculously low this year, it should be safe, even without the syndication prospects.

  • JJA

I predict the CW is going to cancel quite a few shows this year.

At least ONE of these will go: Carrie Diaries + Beauty & The Beast.

At least TWO of the 5 new shows will be canceled.

Supernatural WILL go to season 10 (which may or may not be the final season).

Also, VD, HOD & Arrow will be renewed.
