    Hostages was better than The Blacklist in my opinion.

    I was honestly expecting Hostages to do 15 million.

  • CBSviewer

    CBS has Bad Teacher, Friends with Better Lives and Mike & Molly to replace Mom. I think they won’t wait more than 4 weeks to cancel it if it continues to rate that low.

    @Ultima,

    I think “sharply” is a bit overselling it. The jump in the 9:00pm hour is based entirely on Sleepy Hollow’s 3.1 and The Mob Doctor’s 1.3. The jump at 8:30 is because CBS ran an hour-long HIMYM premiere instead of We Are Men, which I’d say was unlikely to do much better than Partners’s 2.4 last year.

    So, basically, we’re talking about one show. You’re also comparing week one of The Voice and The Blacklist to week two of The Voice and Revolution, after they’d already had their first week drops.

    They aren’t down, though, which is definitely saying something.

    @Alex

    Yeah, because the Emmys are a measure of good acting. That is why Tatiana Maslany got an Emmy on Sunday and Jeff Daniels went home empty-handed.

    Oh wait…

    No it’s really not that funny. You’re population is like 310 million. In the UK (63 million) some shows like The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent earn 9-10 million viewers a week. A few years ago an X Factor finale received 17 million viewers.

    So that’s like a 50 share for The X Factor? That’s insane. The best American Idol ever did was 20.5/32 in households…

    I saw somewhere else that Hostages did a 1.9.. but who knows whos got the right numbers.

    @Ultima,

    And I just realized you were quoting somebody on the “Sharply” bit. Sorry about the confusion.

    Honestly, while Shakira and Usher were fine judges, the show wasn’t quite the same without the original 4. I was very happy to see them all back together and apparently I’m not the only one who felt that way. Kudos to NBC/The Voice and all those involved for their stellar premiere ratings.

    Damn, HIMYM the strongest moment of CBS’ premiere Monday. In its not only ninth but final season. 2BGs surprisingly low. Interesting for Sleepy Hollow haven’t seen it yet though

  • Networkman

    I don’t think CBS expected Hostages to premiere so low. There is no way they could of saw that coming. Under the Dome held that spot during the Summer and was able to garner over 10 million viewers weekly. So the network had to think that provided great exposure for Hostages, with the previews/commercials being advertise. Also, the night before, we are told this year’s Emmy Awards were the highest in 8 years and it aired on CBS. So the network had to feel that provided great exposure for the programs that were to air the following night. I feel Hostages was promoted well.

    When it was first announced in May, I wasn’t interested. But the promos I saw during the Summer persuaded me to give the show a try. I expected at least a 2.3 and 10 million viewers. It would of came in second in the hour with the demo but third in overall viewers.

    Yeah, I was just providing the numbers so people can reach their own conclusion.

    I think it will be much more meaningful if the numbers are up for the entire week compared to last year (or even flat) as that would be a significant break from the trend.

  • Beth

    Even though it would make me sad, I wish Fox would just call ‘Final Season’ for Bones. That way I don’t have to worry and I can prepare myself.

    “It funny how here in America we cancelle shows usually under 5 million viewers(except CW), & in other countries they struggle to get 1-5 million viewers.”

    America has a large population – 317 million. It’s nine times larger than Canada. So countries with large populations are expected to have larger viewerships.

    Be interesting to see how the voice does tonight alongside NCIS & Agents & glad the blacklist didnt adjust down even thought the voice went up a .2

  • Patrick G

    I’m glad to see “Sleepy Hollow” still riding high in the demo, just like that high-jumping headless horseman. Crazy cool show! ;)

    No surprise that “Hostages” is so low. Whoever greenlit that idea at CBS should be fired! Seriously!?! Who wants to watch a show threatening the US President with death and taking a bunch of people hostage? DEPRESSING !! We can just turn on the nightly news if we want to see misery like that. I think this show will be the first cancelation of the season! Good riddance when it happens!

  • Alan

    I give Hostages 2 or 3 more episodes before it gets pulled off, and I don’t know when FOX is going to announce that this is Bones’ final season.

  • Shaun

    I love that Xtina and Ceelo are back! it’s awesome having the original 4 back!
    But yes Shakira and Usher are back for Season 6.
    Xtina and Ceelo chose to not return but may return for future shows as the producer, Mark Burnett, has said that the original 4 will ALWAYS be welcomed back whenever they like.

    And I also love the numbers for CASTLE! I’m obsessed with that show! <3

  • Dan S

    The countdown begins on which new show will get eaten by the bear 1st. In the running is Hostages, good thing it’s limited to only 15 episodes. We Are Men that premieres next week is already DOA. Good thing CBS has several comedies ready to step in quickly.

  • Melissa

    Fall is finally upon us!

    ABC: Decent as usual and nice year-to-year hold from Castle.

    CBS: How I Met Your Mother strong, hopefully a sign of good things to come in its final season. 2 Broke Girls and Mom underwhelming. Hostages DOA.

    FOX: Bones below 2.0 at this point is unsettling but great hold from Sleepy Hollow.

    NBC: Fantastic night! The Voice did great, especially since many were expecting a drop due to its meltdown in June. Strong number for The Blacklist, the next few weeks will reveal a lot.

  • Kate

    I’m so relieved for Castle! I’ll admit to being pretty worried about the new competition. The episode last night was fantastic and hopefully will convince people to keep watching!
