Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast

via press release:

In the 8pm hour, ABC’s series debut of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D opened a strong #1 in the time period with Adults 18-49, defeating NBC’s Tuesday premiere of The Voice by 15% and CBS’ season premiere of NCIS by 35%, to qualify as TV’s highest rated drama debut in nearly 4 years – since 11/3/09.  It was Tuesday’s #1 TV show in Adults 18-49 (tie) and across all key Men demographics (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54).  Despite the strong competition, the self-starting ABC drama gained young adults from its first half-hour to it second half-hour.

Please Note: On top of its big Live + Same Day numbers, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is expected to get a big lift from TV playback, considering its young-skewing audience.  Well ahead of its debut this past weekend, the new show surpassed 1 million Facebook fans.

The season’s #1 new comedy in Adults 18-49, the series premiere of The Goldbergs at 9pm beat Fox’s New Girl by 52% and topped last fall’s premiere of Happy Endings in the half-hour hour by 78%.  It was TV’s top-rated comedy debut in over 1 year and ABC’s highest-rated in 2 years – since 9/11/12 and 10/11/11, respectively.

At 9:30pm among Adults 18-49, the debut of ABC’s Trophy Wife defeated Fox’s The Mindy Project by 53% and outdelivered the year-ago fall premiere of Don’t Trust the B---- in Apt 23 by 35%.

I don’t mean to be hater, but I don’t get what people see in this franchise. It is pretty plain and unambiguous. I am happy at least for ABC that it did well. The could use a new hit drama. I am also glad it beat NCIS in the demo.

The best part about last night was The Goldbergs, in my opinion. I really enjoyed that show. I hope it continues to do well.

No mention to Lucky 7? haha

They really phoned this one in. There were some expensive FX that we won’t see again because they cost too much and a ridiculous CGI transport plane whose same takeoff, landing and mid-air shots will be repeated ad nauseam. All of which we could have excused if the writing, direction and acting had been anything other than routine. Gregg would be better off advertising insurance.

What was the show that premiered over 4.6 in 11/3/09?

  • diegobitch

Ok. I searched and it was Morena Baccarin’s ‘V’ with a 5.2 also on the ABC.

  • CrimTV

This is the first legit press release from ABC since forever

  • diegobitch

And ‘V’ flopped hard to a 3.8 in its 2nd episode and to a 3.1 in the 4th. It was canceled after 22 episodes distributed in a 12-episode 1st season and a 10-episode 2nd season. The 1st season had a hiatus from its 4th episode to the fifth of 3 months, so, the flop couldn’t be harder.

  • skyfi

…and V was canceled soon. lol

  • Chris

Just imagine how much bigger the numbers for this debut will be with DVR playback factored in. Stay tuned over the next few days to see the Live+3 numbers.

  • Jerry

I think V got cancelled because of the ridiculous lengthy 4 month wait, after airing ONLY 4 episodes. And of course, the series was just boring and only got good towards the end when it had flopped in the ratings.

If I am not wrong, the ratings it got in 2nd season when it got cancelled, would have gotten it renewed just a year later. Pretty much like how GCB would have been renewed if it just came on one year later.

  • Tony JJ

Yeah V really got killed by that hiatus after 4 episodes, who knows it probably would have still bombed if they didn’t take that hiatus, but it was definitely a bad scheduling move.

Great for ABC though to finally have a drama premiere big. Last year none of their pilots really premiered BIG like OUAT did the year before. and the good news is, is that SHIELD did very well in the male demographics which is a hard demo to reach and especially for a female oriented network like ABC, and advertisers love the male demographic since it is so hard to reach.

But the fact that it defeated The Voice and NCIS and was #1 in the 8:00 hour is HUGE. The Voice really got hurt by it during it’s first hour, but luckily for NBC it picked up those lost viewers in the second hour.

And Goldbergs/Trophy Wife already doing better than HE/APT.23. Even with the bomb Lucky 7, ABC at least doesn’t look as pathetic as they have on Tuesdays in recent years. Let’s hope they don’t drop like crazy next week.

I think V got cancelled because of the ridiculous lengthy 4 month wait, after airing ONLY 4 episodes.

No, it was renewed after that.

  • Dan S

Good for ABC able to bring some life back to Tues. I think in retrospect ABC would’ve been smarter renewing Body of Proof which certainly would’ve done better than (un)Lucky 7

  • SG

Wish Body of Proof was still on Tuesday nights!

  • JR35

The scheduling didn’t help V, that is true- but, we’ll never know what would have happened had it aired consecutively. So, here nor there.

Great start for the Marvel show.
