The Cancellation Bear had to move quickly to get the fact that Lucky 7 and Betrayal are both certain to be canceled into a headline, since with such decisively bad results, the earlier, the better!

Last season, no new Fall ABC show premiered with such relatively (vs. other ABC shows) low ratings. For those with short memories, Last Resort began with a 2.2 rating and lasted  10 episodes, and 666 Park Avenue started with a 2.1 rating and lasted 9 episodes. As always, no guesses from the bear when he will dine on them, but there's no question both of those shows are #bearchow.

Interesting to note some differences vs. the Bubble Watch. After week 1, the Cancellation Bear doesn't see either Nashville or Back In The Game as #bearchow, but as always, predictions can change quickly this early in the season.

The ABC syndication gods will demand that Once Upon A Time and Revenge be renewed for a fourth season. For that reason, they're both certain to be renewed, effectively regardless of their third season ratings.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2014
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @NetworkMan

as much as i like my schedule i believe in genre matching.. (keeping shows which appeal to same audience on one night). And I really tried to do that in my dream schedule for ABC..

  • grey

“Lucky 7″ been cancelled and not just “pulled” from the line up because some reports are that the set is being shut down as well.

  • Anthony

I like Trophy Wife and Back in the Game. I hate The Goldberg’s it has to be the weakest of the new comedies at least in my opinion. Unfortunately ABC seems to be very invested in the show compared to the other sitcoms.

  • Elijah

Just curious, I have heard from several people that ABC has renegotiated the syndication deals with TNT to get more money from TNT since it’s doing quite well for TNT and ABC wants more money because of it.

But Does anyone have a source?

As much as I love Last Man Standing, it has a curse, because whatever show airs after it, it gets canclled, while it survives, ex:Man Up, Work It,cOUGAR TOWN, AND NOW likely the neighbors, you rock the house last man standing, can’t wait for it to burn up subergatory next year and oroceed to season 4.

  • Jake

    I predict ABC will cancel:
Lucky 7- already have, Trophy Wife, Super Fun Night, The Neighbors, & Betrayal.

  • KJC

    Ugh, I love Betreyal!!

  • KJC

    I love Betrayel!!!

  • Brenda

I don’t watch much television, but Betrayal is a show that I happened to catch the premier episode and felt compelled to watch more. I hate that it’s on a certain to be cancelled list. This same thing happened last year with Do No Harm (which I LOVED!). How can these decisions be made so early in the season? It reminds me of films that critics hate, but they become cult classic hits.

Perhaps when shows are cancelled, the networks will always consider airing the already filmed episode as a summer show like NBC did with Do No Harm.
