Even though it's a "limited series", Hostages would be renewed (just like that other limited series Under The Dome) were its ratings good enough. They aren't. It's likely to be canceled. For you comment thread lawyers, that means "It will not be renewed".

Mom premiered as CBS's lowest rated sitcom, and they always cancel their lowest rated sitcom (and they will, even with HIMYM ending), so for at least this week (until others go lower) it is likely to be canceled.

Unlike the Bubble Watch, the bear's not nearly ready to tap Hawaii Five-0 as likely to be canceled. This could be Hawaii Five-0's final season, but it started better than The Good Wife and even with The Mentalist, and it airs on Friday, which carries a certain ratings forgiveness. The bear wouldn't be surprised if it get lumped together in a group with The Mentalist and The Good Wife where one or two will be canceled, but the bear will puzzle over which, but let's wait and see.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Hostages has potential. Here’s to hoping Elementary rises.

  • Percy

Inreally hope Hawaii Five-0 gets renewed!!

  • CBSviewer

Why NCIS: Los Angeles is not certain to be Renewed ? It got a 3.0 and was CBS #2 Drama last week !

  • Percy

    I really*

  • Jonay Moon

Don’t you count the DVR ratings? doesn’t that play some role in renewing Hostages?

  • Bill Gorman

“Why NCIS: Los Angeles is not certain to be Renewed ? It got a 3.0 and was CBS #2 Drama last week !”

    More tiny errors! Now fixed.

  • Jeff (Canada)

I think it’s time for CBS to let go of The Good Wife and The Mentalist. They had a good run, but they have newer bubble dramas now (Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods, which both have the advantage of being on Fridays).

With Survivor’s ratings getting lower and lower I think CBS should consider moving it to Sundays to pair it with Amazing Race (or timeshare the timeslot with them).

CBS is having quite a disappointing season IMO. Here it goes my predictions:

The Big Bang Theory – Certain Renewal
2 Broke Girls – Certain Renewal
The Crazy Ones – Likely Renewal
How I Met Your Mother – Ending
Two and a Half Men – Likely Renewal (I would go bubble but with so much stuff flopping I doubt it)
    We Are Men: Certain Cancellation
Mom: Likely Cancellation (or Bubble, it’s a thin line because everything is underperfoming, so I dunno)

    Person of Interest: Certain Renewal
    NCIS: Certain Renewal
    NCIS: LA: Certain Renewal
    Criminal Minds: Certain Renewal
    Blue Bloods: Likely Renewal
Hawaii Five-0: Likely Renewal (or Bubble, but I am confident as it stands… ratings could change quickly though)
    Elementary: Likely Renewal
    CSI: Likely Renewal
    The Mentalist: Likely Cancellation
The Good Wife: Bubble… but about to change it to likely cancellation
Hostages: Certain Cancellation and surprised that you have it only as likely

The only ones I watch here are HIMYM, TBBT, and now Mom. I hope Mom stays on, but if it doesn’t it’ll just be one less show for me to watch. Tried TCO but am giving up after only seeing the pilot – I have other things to watch on Thursdays anyway. But good luck to it and the fans.

  • Percy

With Hostages getting a 1.5 in week 2, does that give Hawaii Five-0 a better chance at renewal or moving back to Mondays? Or do you think its better to stay on Fridays for the time being?

  • Mon

If CBS cancel both TGW and TM, I think they should just put both CM and CSI to Sundays, with CSI at 9pm and CM at 10pm. CM/CSI should do better than TGW/TM there. Wednesday is kind of up for grabs with MF declining and ABC failing to find a compatible show and X-Factor likely cancelled this May.

  • TV Viewer

I for one am glad to see Hawaii Five-O moved from likely cancelled on the Bubble Watch page to likely renewed on this one. It’s a good program, (not as good as the original but that was then and this is now), and it has enough loyal fans to keep it renewed on Friday nights. I am also glad it’s on Friday and not Sunday, (when as a result of following NFL games), the start times of programs are difficult to find.
I can accept it when a show I like gets cancelled; Rules of Engagement, Vegas, The Cleveland Show, Futurama, but, I feel Hawaii Five-O has got enough of the 18 – 49 demo to keep it on the air.
Plus CBS is not having a good fall season. They have far too many duds to get rid of Five-O so far in the season.

  • Bill Gorman

“With Hostages getting a 1.5 in week 2, does that give Hawaii Five-0 a better chance at renewal or moving back to Mondays? Or do you think its better to stay on Fridays for the time being?”

I don’t predict schedule moves. No way of me doing so remotely accurately.

  • Chris

I feel like this is it for CSI. Premiering to a 2.0 is really low.

  • Debra

As long as CM continues to be Wednesday night’s #1 drama,I can’t see CBS moving it from where it’s currently at.

  • Tommy M.

If the past is prologue, it’s very unlikely CBS will move H5-0 this year, or away from Fridays with any other destination besides Sundays.

  • darius

The bear should be happy with cbs!He s having lots of early christmas presents from Nina&Les with We are Men Mom Hostages! He might even get The Millers by the end of the year if doesn t hold in the demo! The crazy ones might escape from him!Feed him now!

  • Nasir

Hopefully the ratings for HF0 hold up. I want it renewed. I enjoy Mom so hopefully it rises! I was going to watch Hostages but saw the rating for the premiere ep. and just decided against it.

  • Mitchell

CSI may get moved to Friday or Sunday but I doubt it get axed outright. H50, BB, TGW and Mentalist are all below it, and only one or two of those shows will likely be cancelled. CSI is safe.

  • Nope

please do not cancel THE MENTALIST or ELEMENTARY
anything can go, but those two
