Sleepy Hollow :) :) :) :) renewed 10/3 1.43

10/3 Update: Sleepy Hollow has been renewed for a second season.
Dads and The Mindy Project both stumbled badly out of the gate, and both are likely to be canceled by the end of the season. While the bear doesn't predict the timing of any moves, it's worth noting that second season shows are typically allowed to air their entire season of ordered episodes, regardless of their eventual fate at the end of the season.

This season will be American Dad's final season on Fox (it will continue on TBS), and Glee has already been renewed for the 2014-15 season.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Glad the Mindy Project is getting the boot

I’m proud of Bones this week. :)

What FOX could do next season:

    8:00 – Sleepy Hollow
    9:00 – NEW DRAMA

    8:00 – Brooklyn Nine-Nine
    8:30 – NEW COMEDY
    9:00 – New Girl
    9:30 – NEW COMEDY

    8:00 – The X-Factor / American Idol

    8:00 – Glee
    9:00 – NEW DRAMA

    8:00 – Bones
    9:00 – Raising Hope
    9:30 – NEW COMEDY

    8:00 – The Simpsons
    8:30 – Murder Police
    9:00 – Family Guy
    9:30 – Bob’s Burgers

I think FOX downsize The X-Factor and American Idol to premiere one new Drama in the fall.
Murder Police should air at 8:30 considering The Simpsons is stronger than Family Guy in the Fall.

  • CBSviewer

    * I think FOX should downsize The X-Factor and American Idol.

I’m willing to concede Mindy is now dead. Happy to see Brooklyn do well after the lousy Dads & B9-9 should move back to 9:30& keep Raising Hope on Tues. I’m thinking both Glee & Bones move to Wed & pushback X-Factor 1 night to 2 hrs on Thur & 1 hr on Fri.

  • Concerned gleek

NBC and Fox should make a deal glee goes after the voice @ nine either on Fox or NBC After that everything else would be screwed.

  • jimmers

WHAAAAAAT?! GLEE?! ugh…what a world what a world…get canceled already.

  • Kyouya

Dads is a horrible show. I hope that show gets canceled after tonight.

  • Tomcatt630

Seth Green is annoying in most anything he does. ick!

Here is my Fall 2014 predictions for Fox:

    7:30 The OT/Bob’s Burgers

    9:30 Murder Police

    8:00 Almost Human
    9:00 NEW-Gotham/The Following

    8:00 Surviving Jack
    8:30 Brooklyn Nine-Nine
    9:00 New Girl
    9:30 NEW-Matt Hubbard project

    8:00 The X-Factor/American Idol

    8:00 Sleepy Hollow/American Idol
    9:00 NEW-Gaumont International Television project

    8:00 MasterChef Jr/Bones
    9:00 Bones/Glee

1 new comedy: Jesser & Silverstein project
    1 new drama: Home

Sleepy Hollow will probably get a full season soon enough. Dads will likely be cancelled but my guess is FOX will allow it to air all 13 episodes. Some people think FOX will move Raising Hope to Tuesdays by November and ship Dads to Friday (For a double up) but I don’t think that will happen because then what will air on Fridays with Enlisted in January.

The Mindy Project is owned and produced by NBC, and has a 22 episode order. That means that all 22 episodes will be produced and aired but I doubt the series will return for a fourth season.

My best guess on other comedies is New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine getting renewed.

Glee has been renewed but my guess is 2014-2015 will be the final season for the show and speaking of possible Final seasons if The Simpsons isn’t renewed by the end of this season then it will have 7 leftover episodes at the end of the season. My best guess is that FOX will order a final production season of 13-18 episodes to combine with those episodes to make a final season. Or if the order 2 more seasons of 41 episodes between the two plus the 7 that would be 48 episodes total over 2 seasons (With each season being 24 episodes) That seems like the best bet and would bring the show to exactly 600 episodes. With only Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers guaranteed for 2014-2015 that seems like the best bet.

FOX has Sleepy Hollow, Bones, Almost Human, The Following.

Since Hollow was assigned as a limited series, I say keep it that way:

    Fall: Bones – Sleepy Hollow
    Midseason: Bones – The Following

But since Bones is aging I think would like to finally end it and replace it.

Launch Almost Human somewhere else on the schedule and let it take Bones’ slot after it proves itself.

(though the only “somewhere else on the schedule” would be cutting an hour of The X-Factor or un-renewing Glee.)

  • Dan

@Justin121 – While Sleepy Hollow was conceived as a mini series, unlike Betrayal or Hostages, fox isn’t limiting it to just the 13 episodes. Now that its successful, whats stopping FOX from giving it a full season. With Bones on its last legs and The Following midseason only, FOX could certainly use more dramas.

  • Jon

    Dads is unfunny tv

  • Roy

I like Mindy Project, hope it sticks around. Dads is god awful.

  • milo

I wouldn’t count Glee’s next season as a done deal even though they’ve announced it. It would be a bit embarrassing but if ratings get too bad (and they’re headed that way) they’re not going to waste the money. Maybe a short season as a compromise.

Is there any precedent for announcing multiple season renewal then backing out of it?

  • Nancy

Dads is definitely getting cancelled. Mindy I’m not so sure it might just get a 3rd season after all.

  • Tommy Mickens

I think the bear may have been too hasty with Mindy. Now that this Tuesday’s numbers are out, and Mindy had pre-final numbers better than both Dads and B99, she may just make it to a third (and then guaranteed fourth) season after all.

  • reallypeople

    @Tommy Mickens

Not really. All three are awful numbers (and within a tenth or so in the demo of each other with almost identical viewership). They’ll all just hold hands together in being bear chow. But, of the three, just because FOX seems determined to try to make Brooklyn 9-9 work, it’ll be granted the longest leash of the three. Not Mindy.
