Super Fun Night

Tonight, two new shows premiere. On ABC, comedy Super Fun Night (premise: three socially inept women try to have a good time) debuts in the cushy post-Modern Family spot. ABC has put a lot of effort in to promoting it. If you watched the network at all during the summer, you probably had a picture of star Rebel Wilson block out the bottom right hand corner of your TV screen at least once. But the network recently decided to air a different episode in place of the pilot which is not a good sign. Last year the first episode of The Neighbors garnered a 3,2 in the time period on September 27, 2012. Then Suburgatory took over the time period, garnering a 2.8n adults 18-49 rating for its season premiere on October 17, 2012.

On NBC, Ironside, a remake of a 1970s police drama, takes over the 10PM time period.  Last season, Chicago Fire premiered to a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating. Given the growth of that series over the course of the season, NBC may be willing to be patient if Ironside is not an immediate hit.

How do you think the premieres of both shows will fare? Make your predictions than explain your reasoning in the comments.

2.5 for SFN. Its likely gone by next year. Which means the only promising comedy ABC has is Mixology.

  • Mark

    The Middle – 2.3
Back in the Game – 1.9
    Modern Family – 4.0
    Super Fun Night – 3.0
    Nashville – 1.8

    Revolution – 1.6
Law and Order: SVU – 2.2
    Ironside – 1.7

    Survivor – 2.5
    Criminal Minds – 2.6
    CSI – 2.0

    The X Factor – 2.3

  • RJ

Even with a strong lead-in, SFN has terrible buzz and some of the worst reviews of the new season. I’ll say 2.5.

    1.8 for Ironside.

  • TBM

Super Fat Night will be a Super Fat Bomb. 2.5 premiere then continual drops until it is cancelled.

  • CrimTV

Also the majority of viewers will not read the reviews, they will just watch the promos. So people won’t not watch SFN because it’s got bad reviews.

  • Tomcatt630

SFN will do worse than what Happy Endings and Cougar Town got after MF. ABC will claim they got “good #’s”.

    The Middle: 2.3
    Back in the Game: 1.9
    Modern Family: 4.0 / 10.5 million
    Super Fun Night: 2.6 / 8 million

    Revolution: 1.6 / 5 million
    SVU: 2.5 / 8 million
    Ironside: 2.0 / 6.5 million

  • tv_viewer

    My predictions:

    The Middle 2.3
    Back in the Game 1.9
    Modern Family 3.9
    Super Fun Night 2.7
    Nashville 1.8

    Revolution 1.6
    Law and Order: SVU 2.0
    Ironside 1.9

    Survivor 2.5
    Criminal Minds 2.8
    CSI 2.0

    XFactor 2.4

Modern Family isn’t as strong as it was last season. Thus I predict Super Fun Night will premiere below Suburgatory’s 2.8 for its first episode of the season.

Now that Law and Order’s two hour episode last week is over, I expect SVU will drop back to its normal ratings. Ironside should be a good compliment to Law and Order.

It is speculated that a certain villain in Survivor will quit tonight. Getting rid of a hated contestant should boost Survivor’s ratings. Hopefully Survivor will continue the tradition of refusing quitters any chance of returning in future seasons.

I predict Ironside will be cancelled before Thanksgiving it just looks horrible looks funny too more like a comedy

  • Dan

My guess is Modern Family will score a 4.2 and Super Fun Night a 2.8. The show looks like it will quickly fail. Also I think Ironside will get a 2.0 possibly beating Nashville but losing to CSI.

Super Fun Night is completely out of place on Wednesdays. It doesn’t seem like it will even last and unlike the similar Apartment 23, it doesn’t even look funy.

ABC should move the much better comedies The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife to 8:30 and 9:30. Both shows are cleverly written and good family shows. They will also get destroyed on Tuesdays. The Goldbers pairs with The Middle amazingly and Trophy Wife looks like it would follow Modern Family and do great. Those 2 shows should be given full seasons and not waste away on Tuesdays.

Back in the Game and Super Fun Night don’t seem like they can last given how their stories are. The premise of a woman coaching her sons baseball team and 3 friends going out every night might get old real fast. Those shows don;t seem like they can even last to second seasons.

Hopefully ABC will see this and shift The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife before both Tuesday shows flop completely.

I wonder how Revolution and BitG is gonna fare with Arrow premiering tonight.

  • ToXiX

    2.6 for Super Fun Night
    2.0 for Ironside

  • ToXiX

The Goldbergs belongs after The Middle or Modern Family.

  • Matt

The DREAM ABC Wednesday lineup would be:

    8:00- The Middle
    8:30- The Goldbergs
    9:00- Modern Family
    9:30- Trophy Wife
    10:00- Nashville

The Middle and The Goldbergs would be a great pair. They’re both lighter, more family-friendly comedies with the same feel and humor and would do great in the 8:00 hour. Modern Family and Trophy Wife would be the ultimate pair. Both have name actors, both are same type of sitcom, yet two totally different premises. Also both have identical type of humor. THIS is the dream ABC Wednesday lineup. Middle would probably do around 2.5, The Goldbergs 2.3, modern family 4.0, trophy wife 3.5. Ratings would be very pleasing. Don’t know why ABC didn’t try a Family Comedy Wednesday.

  • Dan

@Matt – Completely agree. That is the perfect lineup. The Goldbergs is basically The Middle meets the Wonder Years (Maybe with a splash of Oliver Beene if anyone remembers that). and Trophy Wife is Modern Family meets Big Love. Both shows would work best at 8:30 and 9:30 wednesdays and despite the misleading name, Trophy Wife is a very good show. I was surprised, and The Goldbrgs is pretty much what I expected but its good too.

@Toxix – Same thing The Goldbergs and The Middle would pair well together, maybe ABC will try that soon.

Comedy Wednesday will implode soon. Back in the Game will fall farther down than The Neighbors did and Super Fun Night will probably lose a larger chunk of the Modern Family lead in than Suburgatory did.

    8:00- The Middle
    8:30- The Goldbergs
    9:00- Modern Family
    9:30- Trophy Wife
    10:00- Nashville

This lineup would be the great family lineup for ABC. If they want comedies on Tuesday than they should put Suburgatory and Back in the Game at 9 and 9:30. Super Fun Night and Mixology would pair well together.

  • NBC Fan

Rebel Wilson and Blair Underwood were both trending on Twitter. However, that doesn’t mean ratings will be good.

  • Igwell

    The Middle: 2.0
    Back in the Game: 1.2
    Modern Family: 3.3
    Super Fun Night: 2.2

    Revolution: 1.4
    SVU: 2.2
    Ironside: 1.3

  • David Howell

Mid-2s for SFN, high 1s for Ironside (and actually with Duck Dynasty in the mix I’m thinking even that may be optimistic).

  • Networkman

@Dan and Matt, I completely agree with the both of you, after watching the series premiere of Super Fun Night. That show is out of place. And I was really underwhelmed. Also, both of the comedies I watched on Tuesday were more entertaining than Back in the Game’s second episode. I appreciate ABC for trying to add another hour of comedy. But right now they have to concentrate on strengthening Wednesday and making sure their two most promising comedies The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife don’t fall any further. I even enjoy The Neighbors more than I did Back in the Game and Super Fun Night.

  • Networkman

    My Predictions

    The Middle: 2.2
    Back in the Game: 1.8
    Modern Family: 3.8
    Super Fun Night: 2.9
    Nashville: 1.9

    Survivor: 2.5
    Criminal Minds: 2.8
    CSI: 2.1

    Revolution: 1.7
    Law & Order: SVU 2.1
    Ironside: 2.0
