Festival Supreme Comedy Week to Air on IFC, October 12-18
NEW YORK, NY – October 3, 2013 – To celebrate the first upcoming Festival Supreme (October 19, Santa Monica Pier), IFC has signed on as the exclusive TV partner of the comedy and music festival. IFC will air a series of unique promotional spots featuring Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass) and host an on-air “Festival Supreme Comedy Week” marathon from October 12-18. On IFC.com, users can watch custom spots, editorial content and the latest Festival updates.
The partnership underscores the comedic sensibility that IFC and Festival Supreme share, as evidenced by the impressive line-up of comedians both performing at the festival and featured in many of IFC’s original shows, including Fred Armisen, David Cross, Garfunkel & Oates, Bob Odenkirk and Reggie Watts, among others.
Commented Tenacious D, “IFC. They want to party with us? Strange coincidence. We want to party with them! Half of the artists in Festival Supreme are doing shows on IFC. Joining forces was inevitable…and delicious.”
“Jack and Kyle have put together a festival featuring some of today’s most talented and buzzed about comedians, many of whom we already work with at IFC,” said Blake Callaway, IFC’s senior vice president of marketing. “IFC wanted to create a similar festival, just one that is happening on people’s couches, if you can’t make it out to LA.”
The promo pieces with Tenacious D feature the comedy/music duo as a pair of Woodstock-esque characters waxing – and singing—poetic about IFC, Festival Supreme and even how clothing is optional (but just for Jack and Kyle!) at the Festival. The spots will drive viewers to the network’s “Festival Supreme Comedy Week,” a marathon of comedies, October 12-18, featuring episodes of Portlandia, Comedy Bang! Bang!, The Whitest Kids U’ Know and Monty Python alongside films such as Billy Madison and Van Wilder: Freshman Year. The custom pieces were directed and edited by Liam Lynch.
IFC’s on-air effort surrounding the Festival coincides with the premiere of the network’s newest original series The Birthday Boys, featuring the sketch comedy troupe of the same name and executive produced by Bob Odenkirk and Ben Stiller, debuting Friday, October 18 at 10:30 pm ET/PT. The premiere immediately follows the return of IFC’s popular series Comedy Bang! Bang! at 10 pm, based on Scott Aukerman’s podcast of the same name and featuring one-man bandleader, comedian Reggie Watts.
