Scandal Boom Goes the Dynamite Olivia

Scandal went from being a bubble show in season one to a big hit in season two. Tonight, it returns for its third season. Season two ended with several huge cliffhangers. The serialized show has been rerunning on BET all summer to potentially give new viewers a chance to catch up the way they do on Netflix for cable programs between seasons. ABC has done a lot of promotion and the legions of fans who have made the show a social media sensation have been hitting Twitter hard for weeks to make sure everyone on earth knows about it. Will all the hype pay off with a big premiere number? Last year, season two opened with a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating. The season two finale garnered a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating, growing over its Grey's Anatomy lead-in. So how do you think it will fare tonight? Make your predictions below then discuss your reasoning in the comments.

  • Andrew Dias

    Somewhere in the 3.2-3.5 range.

  • Mal

    predicting a 3.5 on the nose.

  • Derek

    The majority is saying >3.5. I just don’t see that happening at all, though it would be nice if it did!

  • fourat sakka

    i say 3.5-3.6

  • Dude

    3.3

  • Alecia

    I would love for it to hit a series high but I voted on the safe side 3.0-3.1

  • Roy

    I know the show is popular and all, but the ads ABC are playing for the season premiere are laughably awful. Especially the delivery of the “What did you do?” line.

    Oh and I predict a 2.8.

  • AADSFAS

    Roy Roy Roy Roy Roy Roy Roy Roy Roy Roy Roy Roy Roy

  • John A

    I dont know what people see in it but ill go with a 3.3.

  • Bernard

    It was steadily growing last season all the way until the finale, and people have had the summer to catch up. There is no way it’s not setting a new high tonight. Trends just don’t work that way (look at Breaking Bad, Big Bang Theory, etc.) It’s quite possible that this year is its peak, and that the glow will fade quickly, but we aren’t there yet. Anticipation is huge, and I’m guessing the show opens at 3.5. Could be as low as 3.3, but a 3.7 wouldn’t be surprising. A 4.0 doesn’t seem likely, but I wouldn’t call it impossible.

  • Mary

    Unfortunately, it’s going to be high and drag down the numbers for Elementary & Parenthood. Especially Parenthood.

  • harry

    Is scandal airing two new episodes tonight one before and one after greys anatomy?

  • Alecia

    @harry

    8pm is a clip show

  • Andrew Dias

    @harry

    No, Harry. The 8 p.m. one is a special episode, where a member of the cast – the one that plays David Rosen – will shows us some things from the last two seasons and offer some commentaries. In short, is like Once’s recap special episodes.

  • RJ

    3.4

  • Paris

    POOR REVENGE FANS. THEIR FAVORITE SHOW WILL NEVER HAVE A POLL WITH 2.6 BEING THE LOWEST OPTION. LOL

    SCANDAL, THE MOST POPULAR SHOW ON BROADCAST TV RIGHT NOW, SURE WILL HAVE A HUGE PREMIERE. I’M EXPECTING SOMETHING BETWEEN 3.8 AND 4.2.

    TONIGHT WE’LL MAKE HISTORY.

    REVENGE CAST, WRITERS AND PRODUCERS: WATCH AND LEARN.

    REVENGE FANS: WATCH IT TONIGHT AND TRY TO BEGIN LOVING A REAL GOOD SHOW.

  • Mary

    Really, Paris? Instead of making a post praising Scandal, you basically just bash Revenge. If you hate the show so much, I have a news flash, you don’t have to watch it. Simply go on with your life and let others enjoy the show.

    BTW, I don’t watch Revenge. I just found your post really annoying.

  • Andrew Dias

    @Paris

    Technically, 2.6 isn’t the lowest option. The ‘<' sign next to it is there to serve a purpose.
    I just wouldn't expect your tiny brain to get it.

  • Lily

    Don’t care about Scandal … TVD 1.3 TO 1 – 0.9…

  • ALex

    don’t get me wrong scandal is good but really paris your an idot. It will get around a 3.0 but really u think it will get a 4.2?
