Scandal Boom Goes the Dynamite Olivia

Scandal went from being a bubble show in season one to a big hit in season two. Tonight, it returns for its third season. Season two ended with several huge cliffhangers. The serialized show has been rerunning on BET all summer to potentially give new viewers a chance to catch up the way they do on Netflix for cable programs between seasons. ABC has done a lot of promotion and the legions of fans who have made the show a social media sensation have been hitting Twitter hard for weeks to make sure everyone on earth knows about it. Will all the hype pay off with a big premiere number? Last year, season two opened with a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating. The season two finale garnered a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating, growing over its Grey's Anatomy lead-in. So how do you think it will fare tonight? Make your predictions below then discuss your reasoning in the comments.

Congrats to Scandal. We gladiators showed out last night. Congrats to Kerry for the Emmy Nom. She and the rest of the cast deserve all of the success they can get. I was fortunate enough to attend a live panel they had out here in Soho yesterday, and they are nothing but gracious, so why can’t we Gladiators be the same? Let us please not trash Revenge fans as when Scandal first started, it’s ratings were less than desirable and was on the bubble for cancellation. Social-media buzz in addition to its brilliant writing have been its salvation. And Revenge fans, please admit that the diminishing quality and excitement of show are the reason for its low-ball ratings. I tuned out about eight episodes in season 2 and its showing little promise of regaining its season one quality, which is no surprise because how long can a show centered on ONE PREMISE pan out? People are simply bored of her request to destroy the Graysons. No one is invested anymore. All in all, let us just remain objective and admit the truth and be cordial with one another.

    *eight episodes into season 2
*her quest to destroy the Graysons.

i’m going 3.5 but more would be awesome to chatter about.

  • senor chang

if that 4.3 is really true…holy sh*t. congratulations for ABC, you’ve got a real hit on your hands and you should be happy about it.

Go Scandal, it was a really good episode yesterday and it deserves its rating. If Shield can hold on to its rating and Sunday and thursday holds than ABC are most definitely back into the fold.

  • Katherine

Be very careful about celebrating T25 numbers.

Speak for yourself I love Scandal but I also love Revenge. Both are great shows very different but both good. Revenge really declined in quality towards the middle of season 2 but the last 7 or 8 episodes were really good, Season 3 started out really well and I hope it keeps the quality moving up. No reason to fight! On IMDB, Revenge has an 8.0 and its for a reason, many people still love it. Scandal has really upped its game and hopefully it keeps this up. Different strokes for different folks, just because you do not like something does not mean others have to share your opinion.

If Scandal did indeed get a 4.0 or higher then it should be considered something above monster hit status. It’s a great show with tons of water cooler buzz lacking in most other shows today so people are more compelled to watch it live.

Regarding this whole situation and crazy Scandal vs Revenge thing, you seem to be the most conscious person. I love both shows too (although I prefer Scandal).
    Kudos to you, sir.

Abc has a really hot show right. It’s too bad abc can’t air scandal after the super bowl or has football. It’s time next season to move scandal at 9 pm next season it will expose it more viewers and greys it’s been great but time to move.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see ABC flip Scandal and GA for winter return. Scandal obviously has a lot of room for growth. It is limited at 10 p.m. GA is on last legs. They won’t split them up because Thursday is solid for them.

  • Katherine

They are not going to move two successful shows midseason.

  • aciel

perhaps maybe scandal will be the new greys anatomy
