GH is only 34,000 and 1 tenth away from being #1 in 18-49. I am waiting patiently. \

GH is up 45% in 18-34 and up 44& in 18-49 compared to last year. And is showing the most year-to-year improvement than any other daytime program.

BUT really CONGRATS to ALL SOAPS!! All of them are showing huge year-to-year improvement which is really outstanding and all that matters. Bravo!

SoapFansTogether (or whatever your see-through alias of the week is),

If you actually stood in a room at a podium and spewed your exact above words (er, dead wrong BS) to a group of network executives or people who actually have a life in the real world (unlike yourself, it seems) you’d be laughed into the next state like the fool you paint yourself as. Since you’re a pompous know-it-all who feels the need to lecture everyone on how exactly the TV business works, perhaps you should become an executive yourself (sarcasm).

If you’re so bold to say that “TV advertisers are tremendously unhappy…” about the daytime landscape, then prove it. Who exactly do you have personal contact with? Provide evidence and names in this thread, smarty pants. You’re not fooling anyone.

I personally have nothing at all against soap operas and think they deserve a place. But sadly people like you give all soap fans collectively a bad name, No wonder why mainstream people roll their eyes and think that all soap fans are loons. You are not so far above everyone else who has different tastes to spit down on them and be a bully. You may not care for talk shows, and that’s fine. But you have zero right to put down the many people who enjoy them by exaggerating negative ratings/demo BS. You’re completely out of line with that, and if you cannot tolerate dissenting opinions/viewpoints, then get lost.

  • TimsDale4ever

I don’t even watch GH but I’m just so damn happy for them!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tom

Really? Were they happy with The Revolution? …. Wait Good Afternoon America…. No lets see Katie right? No……. Ummm. Uhhh. Ummm. Oh that’s right Frons was fired and with less network interference General Hospital is 50 and fabulous! ABCD did not do so hot with ” Brand New Days” as promised the spring of 2010. Even Dummer has stated in an interview that OLTL didn’t deserve cancellation.

  • Jeff

I am not sure if GH will pass Y&R in the demo, but I think it’s very possible. Especially with Robin returning. GH is on a big roll at the moment. Y&R is up in viewers but down in demo year to year. Y&R does skew much, much older overall.

I only watch GH, but I do want all 4 soaps to do well and increase in viewers and demos.

  • opinion8d

Good for DAYS!!! Hope the momentum continues!!!

  • Jeff

Also, I have to say that what Frank and Ron do best is utilize a show’s rich history. They did it with OLTL, and they are certainly doing it with GH. I was almost crying yesterday during Robin’s voiceover/Anna scenes. Then, having Anna remember that iconic GH scene of seeing Robin after her kidnapping was a true gift.

  • sophie

I love GH right now. I’ve watched forever, and to me it’s been the very best the last couple months than it’s been in years. GREAT JOB GH!!!! I really LOVE the history they are bringing back!!!! So many Vets on, and more coming back. A+

  • Mike

The posts about GH if find weird. It truly shows how different viewers are different.

In the press release thread everyone was going on and on about Franco & Carly. Or Sam and the I supposed the new guy that Easton is playing. I forgot his name.

Then in here it is a mixed bag. You have folks like one poster saying the vets aren’t being used. Then Joey S saying the vets haven’t been featured as much and the ratings are up. Then others like Sophie saying so much history and so many vets being on.

It truly shows how many different people can be watching the same show and see something different.

    ******

I am glad that Y&R is not crashing, but I have pretty much given up on it. This is the first week since I started watching on day 1 that I have not watched one bit. I have it all on DVR and I might watch and catch up this weekend but I just don’t have any desire to.

I don’t want Y&R to be cancelled but there is just nothing making me want to tune in right now.

    Still loving B&B.

  • Lina

If only GH would ditch the Mob, especially Sonny. Sonny is done. I’m so tired of Maurice Bernard and his reign of violence. Get rid of Sonny, get rid of Sean, get rid of Julian, get rid of Ava. No more Mafia. The show is so much better when it gets back to its love story roots and gets rid of the violence. The scenes with Sean hurting that guy, on the same day of the DC shooting, were disgusting. No more guns, no more people getting beaten up. Make love, not (mob) wars. I’m also tired of looking at Maura West’s face. She looks so plastic and her acting isn’t much better.

  • robert sprague

@ joey .s the vets are the heart of the show and fans do tune in to see if they will be on. the storys on gh right now arnt so great maxi lulu battle over connie sucks. sonny Olivia take a hike morgan and ava seen that coming . been watching the show for 25 years I know what its about and these storys suck.

I am glad that Days is back on track after the mid july/august break. The Samy Brayd trial and Burnadi murder was becoming a little slow. However, some good thing came out of it as it was mentioned before… Judi Evans was back in the front burner storyline and Justin as well. I really enjoy those two, they are amazing actors. I am glad as well that people are starting to enjoy their four soaps all together. Those soaps are the only thing that tv is related to the past and present. Sure, they are late night talk shows and morning talk shows and the price is right that is all related to some degree of ‘nostalgia’ but for fiction, the only thing left from the american tv past are those four shows except some new episodes of Dallas, that’s it. The fan base is already there from 30-50 years. I wonder if some people even tried to estimate how many people they reach in their entirely run over the years. I am sure they should be stunned by the numbers. That’s why, I imagine Tv broadcasters should revive even more those shows by making them available on new platforms to reach younger demographic. Soaps are watchable by iphone..not soo much big tv series and movies that needs bigger screens. Those soaps are a treasure to broadcasters , not a source of cancellation rumors.

  • Mike

Walsh but nostalgia doesn’t sell shows. We should know that by now from the examples of All My Children and One Life To Live.

Fans promised they would watch if they came back. Vowed it. Did they? No.

Prospect Park put the money out. Paid for them and put them in the new formats. Online and streaming. Just what younger fans say they want. Fans didn’t support them so they cut them back to 2 days a week. Fans still didn’t support them enough.

Even when they showed back up on cable TV the numbers weren’t impressive.

Prospect Park made a lot of mistakes, but the complete underwhelming success of the projects is not totally due to them.

And calculating how many fans these shows have reached through the years. What good does that do? Sure it would be an impressive number for fans. But it won’t sell any advertisements and won’t get them any more money for the budget.

No one can rest on their laurels. In the TV and entertainment busy it is about today — not about the past.

I need to add as well, that I am really curious about J.J and Theresa. These two characters have amazing possibilities because their relationships with their parts. Theresa’s mother was a former prostitute deeply connected to Victor’s past crime stories, she has a brother Andrew that must be has screw up that she is and we should not forget that Kimberly had mental health issues as a split personality disorder..that should set the characters to huge and exciting stories! It’s about the same with J.J, Jack was not a saint, and it was clever from writers to mention this over this week when he has confronted Kayla about this issue from 25 years ago… This is a great example what writers can do with characters that have been on the show from more than 20 years..

  • walsh

Mike, for me Prospect park does’nt have the same power that major NBC, ABC and CBS tv broadcasters have for now. I agree with you that One life to live and All my children are maybe long gone, but I was not talking about those shows, I was saying that the four soaps that have stayed on air right now are the only thing that’s left in fiction from the past and they are possibilities because of it. It’s not good having a show base only on nostalgia, you have to put something fresh and new from the past and that’s what Days is actually doing right as we speak. However, I was saying that a show that 40-50 years of characters deeply connected to their audience… has huge possibilities than creating new characters , and tv shows that have to fight to reach their audience. NBC is not doing well in primetime with some shows that cannot even reach an audience of two millions each week. Days is actually doing it five times a week in daytime and in the morning at all different hours!!! What’s good to be modern just in case to be deeply hip and modern??? You don’t reach more viewers, you just turn people away from tv because lack of storytelling and emotions to have youngers having more emotions by playing videogames online …

  • Mike

Walsh my response was to the following lines of what you did say:

“I wonder if some people even tried to estimate how many people they reach in their entirely run over the years. I am sure they should be stunned by the numbers. That’s why, I imagine Tv broadcasters should revive even more those shows by making them available on new platforms to reach younger demographic.”

The shows being on Hulu and ITunes — two of the biggest icons in streaming that there are — wouldn’t matter if you were ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. The shows were still there. Fans just didn’t tune in.

And I doubt reviving any show would warrant any different results.

Fans have said for years that if networks would run old soaps in reruns they would watch them or if they put them on DVD they would buy them.

Last year they tried to sell the old PGP shows on DVD but they didn’t merit enough sales for the company to continue so they quit.

Different cable networks have aired old soaps in late night or during the day always to the same result. Even SoapNet tried to air Another World and the show got 0.0 ratings. Ryan’s Hope rated so slow they started airing it early in the morning when it didn’t matter.

The only old soap that has ever done well in reruns was Dark Shadows and even it didn’t do great numbers.

Soaps just never have repeated well and with the DVD sales it has just always seemed to be fans didn’t want the episodes they chose or some other reason. So no one has just never been interested in doing it on a full time basis.

Soap fans have just proven one thing through the years — many times what we say we want we find out we don’t really want it when we get it. The other thing is that soap fans have proven for the most part to be hard to please.

  • MBmomof3

Love it! Great week for soaps & soap fans. Keep watching. GH & DOOL have been especially fun IMO.

  • Marissa

Another solid week for my GH. Loving it! And it’s so so nice to have Robin back.

  • sophie

It is nice having Robin back, along with Robert. I love the old flashbacks with all of them. Anna is amazing too. All great actors! I love Gh and how they bring alot of vets back. And they write really well too! So proud of my soap!

  • AsTheWorld

I love Days Of Our Lives, but its about to turn into a downswing, Kristen, Will, Chad, Gabi & Cameron will be gone by the end of this year, I know Kim & Shane will be back but it’s not fun for the viewers, Theresa is annoying and so is JJ, Jen & Daniel are boring too, Bring back Belle & Shawn D, and Mimi (Oh wait, Can’t bring back Mimi) Her mother is Bonnie Lockhaert played by Judy Evans (Adrienne Kiriakis) She’s still Paulina Cory to me

More nurse Maxine please!!! You know we love her
