Lucky 7

Lucky 7 has been canceled by ABC after just two low rated episodes. This week's installment garnered a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating. It will be replaced, for now, with repeats of Scandal.

this page is for the grieving process of Lucky 7?s sudden death

How long do people need to grieve? Everyone knew nine days ago, after the premiere ratings were released, that the show was going to be canceled.

    @TV Expert
SHOULD HAVE NEVER CANCELLED BODY OF PROOF ABC, it may now get Scandal’s ratings but it has such a strong fan base and would achieve around 8 million and a 1.5/1.6 rating. ABC should quickly make a decision and uncancel Body of Proof before the cast signs to new shows for fall 2014

Presumably, Body of Proof was canceled because ABC decided that they were never going to make money with the show. Its replacement failing (even spectacularly) doesn’t change that.

Body of Proof ratings by season…

    2010-11 – 2.3 rating (9 eps)

    2011-12 – 1.7 rating (20 eps)

    2012-13 – 1.4 rating (13 eps)

Body of Proof would have needed another two full seasons to reach syndication numbers and the ratings were already really poor (and it would be losing the DWTS lead-in). There’s simply no way that a syndication deal would offset four seasons of terrible ratings.

Even if every single new drama on ABC fails, that still won’t make the cancellation of Body of Proof a bad decision.

I was right on both the first order and the first cancelation. That never happens!

Wow, it didn’t even come close to lasting as long as Windfall did on NBC or The Syndicate on BBC. Maybe America just isn’t ready for a show about the trials and tribulations of rich people… at least when it isn’t a reality show or set in Dallas.

While I may have you both.

Holly and Ultima, I I correct in assuming that a 1.0 demo rating represents 1,270,000 viewers?

Also, although people say a show runs old when the total viewers exceeds demo viewers by a large margin, for some shows that total viewer number could also represent some viewers between 2 and 17 right? Perhaps some 8pm shows for instance.

    Thanks in advance.
    Have a great weekend.

    @Anthony Parello,

Am I correct in assuming that a 1.0 demo rating represents 1,270,000

    Close enough. (It’s 1,2696,000)

Yes, total viewers include all viewers 2 and up. However, for the vast majority of scripted broadcast shows, it is the older viewers making the difference when a show has high viewers and low demo.

    ROARRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Scandal repeats? They are better off airing a test pattern.

So much for my prediction of We Are Men being the first show canceled.

The Adults 18-49 demographic is composed of 126.96 million viewers (different demos are different sizes). A 1.0 rating can be anywhere from 1.206 to 1.333 million viewers in Adults 18-49.

However, using 1.27 million viewers per A18-49 ratings point is usually good enough unless you’re looking at ratings which are very small (e.g. the CW or most cable).

Going for a show which doesn’t start premiere week or earlier is putting yourself at a huge disadvantage.

Anyone remember what the last show was that had a delayed premiere yet got canceled first?

OMG. Body of Proof fans will just not ever give it a rest. I like Dana Delaney, too and hopefully she will reappear in a more successful show. Both Lucky and Body are DEAD and NEVER coming back–EVER. Please move on. I’m sure ABC doesn’t regret either cancellation since the ratings for Body of Proof and Luck 7 were dismal and abysmal, respectively–and that just don’t pay the bills.

  • Aeiouy

I watched all 84 minutes so suck it!

  • HalCapone

Don’t feel too badly for ABC having the first cancellation of the new season. This is a blip in an entire broadcast season, nothing more than a trivia question. ABC has much to crow about since they just won the 18-49 demo race for higher income households ($100,000+)during premier week with 7 of their shows landing in the top 15–more than any of the broadcast 4. I believe they also won that contest for either the entire Fall season last year or a large chunk of it. 18-49 year olds with disposable incomes are the opiate for advertisers.

  • Dollface

Wow I thought this one would be one of the first to go but I figured it would be 5 or 6 episodes before the pulled the plug.

  • HalCapone

So much for the networks asking for more patience this season due to higher anticipated DVR usage. I guess Lucky’s low numbers were so low they couldn’t beat the cancellation odds–not unlike winning the lottery odds.

  • MyFaceIsJustAsBadAsMyAttitude

GOOD! Perhaps the networks should be a bit more original and come up with something new rather than looking to Europe for a pre-existing idea and plot.

  • Dan

Betrayal will air all 13 episodes as scheduled, There’s no point to pull the drama especially when ABC has a replacement scheduled. They will have to look the other way when Sunday 10pm ratings come in and just focus on March, when a new show premieres.

Everyone says “They should have renewed Body Of Proof” well my guess is at least Body of Proof was consistent and the show definitely would have got higher than a 1.3 (Probably 1.5-1.9 as a premiere) Lucky 7 flopped out of the gate and now there are no replacements until winter. I wonder if Killer Women will get moved up.

Next show cancelled is We Are Men guaranteed. CBS already has a full 22 episode season of Mike & Molly waiting in the wings and if the show dips below a 2.0 then there’s no reason to keep it around. Best case scenario is CBS burns the unaired episodes off on Saturdays. Welcome to the Family and Dads will probably be next although given NBC’s lack of real estate (I have to idea if Community is ready to return) as well as FOX’s relationship with Seth Macfarlane, both WTTF and Dads may live to November.

  • Dan

@Ann – The rule of fall is that no show is ever cancelled after 1 episode. Its two and out sometimes 3. The show premieres and the network gives it one more week to improve if it doesn’t then the show gets pulled. Inconceivable, My Generation, Lone Star, Made in Jersey are all examples of shows pulled after 2 episodes. If We Are Men premiered on September 23 then it probably would have got pulled after week 2 (maybe still week 3) but CBS allowing We Are Men to air a second episode prevents it from being the first cancellation.

Lucky 7 is first, then We Are Men, and then maybe Welcome to the Family or Dads.

I still think while Betrayal, Hostages and Ironside will be cancelled, the trio will air all produced episodes. Those networks will probably announce those cancellations by November (Betrayal and Hostages wouldn’t have gotten more eps anyway but due to their serial nature they should be able to finish the season and give closure kind of like a cable drama) NBC will probably cap Ironside’s episode order at 13 since its not an outright flop and air all 13 episodes until they have a replacement ready.

Dads probably will air all produced episodes. ABC probably wont cancel a comedy until after November. (I’m still unsure which one but its probably either Back in the Game or Trophy Wife).
