In Late-Night Metered Markets Friday night:

In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.7/7; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.7/7; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 2.0/5 with an encore.

In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.8/4; "Late Show," 0.5/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.8/4 with an encore.

From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.4/4 in metered-market households and a 0.5/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.4/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.3/4).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2).

NOTE: All ratings are "live plus same day" from Nielsen Media Research unless otherwise indicated.

Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

The Neighbors has had enough time to build an audience giving it 2 solid timeslots and wasting both of them.

  • JONNYSBRO

Hawaii 5.0 is in its fourth year. It’s doing good in its new Friday slot in fact it’s the perfect Friday night show.

  • Robert Ford

If the Neighbors can flatline, it will demonstrate an interesting pattern:

ABC comedies that don’t star a family with kids (Cougar Town, Apt 23, Happy Endings) plummet when moved to the Friday death slot.

ABC comedies that have a family with kids (LMS, MC, The Neighbors) might not do particularly well on Fridays, but don’t go into a death spiral.

  • Sarah

Seeing how much MasterChef Jr dropped from last week, I hope Bones will do better and be steadier when it moves in November.

  • Tim

ABC won the night . More bad news for CBS .All their Friday shows already dropping :)
NBC will jump to second place with Grimm and Dracula. I cannot wait.

  • TP

    @ LisaM

H5O doing well on Friday. I bet if it had stayed on Mondays, it would be canceled at the end of the season..

  • Raul

    Go ABC!!

  • SJ

Just pull The Neighbors already, ABC!

Why would CBS move H50 back to Monday only to move it to Friday again when Intelligence premieres? Or do you suggest CBS premiere their biggest drama of the season on Fridays?

    Some people sure are dim.

  • TP

The neighbors almost got beaten from the pathetic Sean saves the world whatever repeat..! this is really ugly for it’s future ;)

  • r0ckmypants

@Mike 1 – “And now they are losing Fridays too.”

CBS doesn’t usually win Fridays against full competition. In fact, this week last year, they were in third place, behind ABC and NBC, and tied in the demo with Fox for the night.

  • HeadlessHorseman (formerly JacobYates)

    @rob
Yet ABC still won the night.

    @chloe
Most likely. The only thing keeping it from 100% certainty is that it’s produced by 20th century Fox. Therefore, ABC would get nothing from syndication. But all in all, I like its chances.

  • r0ckmypants

@Robert Ford – “ABC comedies that don’t star a family with kids (Cougar Town, Apt 23, Happy Endings) plummet when moved to the Friday death slot.”

This theory is meaningless because 2 of the 3 shows you mentioned never even aired on Fridays (Don’t Trust the B, Cougar Town).

  • Grz12

My favorite episode of the Neighbors so far. Hope it gets to synd, even if it rides Friday night all the way there.

  • Raykov

I don’t know what is more sad… That a self-starter LMS on Friday tied Trophy Wife from Tuesday which had a better lead-in or that repeats of failing NBC comedies almost tied new episode of The Neighbours.

Since TN is produced by ABC, they should move it to ABC Family and launch all episodes there until it reaches syndication. They should try if Trophy Wife could keep that 1.4 rating on Fridays and debut Suburagory on Tuesdays at 9:30, followed by a new drama (Mindgames maybe). Or maybe ditch the whole Tuesday comedy idea altogether and use the 9pm slot for Resurrection!

  • Nathan

If I were ABC, I’d just pull The Neighbors and replace it with a LMS repeat.

  • kari

    First drop for H50. LOL

  • Charmed

@DenverDean I think it would have worked well with Castle or BOP had it moved to ABC. It’s a shame it didn’t, I would kill for another season.

  • Nasir

Pretty good for HF0. Staying pretty solid.

& good for ANTM. This show has been solid all summer and now’

  • TP

    @ kari

    what is so funny???

  • James

CBS sent H50 to Fridays to die and it is doing just that. This will be it’s last season. Shark Tank is the only winner.
