Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

I really hope viewers give Season 2 of Revolution a second chance because it is so good this year. I know the second half of S1 was really hitting it’s stride. I know Revolution lost a lot of viewers and the first 10 episodes of S1 and were mediocre, but it is so much better now. I wish NBC would promote it more and stop wasting it on Ironside and Dracula.. I think Revolution does have a loyal fan base.

Series low for Undercover Boss ?

  • Leah

I wonder why so many people are laughing and saying the return of Grimm will spell doom for H50, is it because that is what they want and are a little scared that the fan base will come not from H50 viewers but the Shark Tank. I am a fan of H50, I love it but at the end of the day my life will go on regardless of the outcome for the show. I would miss H50 but I have never watched Grimm nor Shark Tank and never will, that being said I’m not saying these 2 shows aren’t valued by their viewers. It’s really a shame that instead of singing the praises of a persons favorite show they seem to have to run another show down. Maybe these people aren’t that positive in their real lives, maybe they have to always run others down to feel good about themselves, if that’s the case I truly feel sorry for them. I am who I am, I like what I like and running down someone or something won’t make me feel better. A person should never run a person or a show down just to feel better about themselves.

  • HalCapone

Soft Friday night for television viewing across the board. Nothing but Shark Tank ever seems to hit the 2.0 mark. I suspect Grimm will land in the low to mid 1’s and settle there after a mid to high 1’s debut but it won’t beat Shark Tank–EVER. Lucky night for CBS since Fridays are ABC’s to lose in the demo but when Shark Tank adjusts up in finals ABC will at least be tied with CBS.

  • Joseph

If ABC cancels “Neighbors” and moves “Last Man Standing” away from Fridays, they will likely be replaced in the 8-9 P.M. (Eastern/Pacific) hour on Fridays by reality or reruns.

And if ABC were to make those moves now, at least for a few weeks, CBS would be the only English-language broadcast network broadcasting first-run scripted programming on Fridays.

  • Randy

    Hi Annag.

H50 DROPPED in the demo from 1.5 to 1.4. The overall viewership last week was 9.5 million and this week it was 9.06 million so I don’t know where you see an increase either in demo OR viewership? It says right on this page “Hawaii Five-0 earned a 1.4, down a tenth from last week’s 1.5 adults 18-49 rating. ”

And I believe you are playing “fan excuse bingo” when you BLAME Undercover Boss for the failures of the other shows on CBS.

I liked Jorge Garcia but I am sorry. This H50 episode was ridiculous. I wonder how the Hawaiians are going to feel about the history of their king statue being rewritten and so the statue they really have is only a duplicate?

It was beyond believability. This is a procedural, not Sci-Fi. But it will all come down to which shows have better numbers: TGW, TM, or H50. I think we need to see how H50 does when Grimm comes back. I don’t know much about FOX’s show but it hasn’t started yet either.

We won’t know much until a few weeks in after the whole competition returns.

And H50 has disappeared from the top 100 on TNT; another downward trend.

  • Leah

@Randy Actually H50 only took a little liberty, there were 2 statures, one did go down in the ocean and was later sold back to Hawaii and is located where H50 said last night, the only liberty they took was with the rings. This information was verified by a native Hawaiian so before you talk about the history be rewritten you need to get your facts straight. This is exactly what I was talking about previously, run down a show or a person to make yourself feel better.

  • boogke

Malibu was definitely helping lift ABC in the hour, it had a built in fan base that would tune in to LMS as well, so even though Malibu wasn’t a huge hit it had a stabilizing effect on the hour as well as the night. It also improved quality wise and viewers responded giving it I think a 1.4 in its final original airing.

The Neighbors is a cute quirky show but is only being watched by default and is not compatible with LMS or the night itself. ABC made a stupid shortsighted move canceling Malibu, as its Friday night ratings were generally excellent last year, winning in the demo on a weekly basis. They should have left it alone and focused on the trouble areas of which it has many. Now the whole night is suffering due to the 830 weakness and lack of flow.

  • Randy

Leah, please. Discussing the FACTS about the ratings and why we think a show is good or bad is not our need to RUN DOWN another show. This is a discussion board not a feel good session. It is YOU who take things personally and actually get HURT if anyone dares to criticize your show. Really? They are TV shows and whether we like it or not, the ratings are not going to be nice because you don’t want your feelings hurt.

I personally like to analyze shows and I like to see why some shows aren’t cutting it and others are. You need to lighten up. You aren’t protecting your show. You are just trying to protect yourself from pain.

Enjoy your show. I prefer to be a realist and watch the ratings and see the trends and I know it really offends you, but H50 is trending down at this moment.

If it trends UP then you will be the first one here shouting victory over the other shows. So how is that any different?

It isn’t. The truth about H50 is they would have been cancelled if it weren’t for the fact that CBS is a very successful network and they got TNT to buy into H50 in season one and they jumped the gun, as we see now. So you should be actually very happy your show lucked out and is still on the air.

  • queeneeuq

I’m starting to agree that Malibu Country should have stayed on Fridays. The Neighbors and Suburgatory given half-seasons sharing the Wednesdays 8.30 and Back in the Game kept as a backup in case Trophy Wife fails as it is doing right now.

    @Fake Me Out

“…it’s only a matter of time before LMS drops below a 1.0.”

Especially when Bones moves in November. At least I’m hoping Bones does well.

  • Leah

@Randy, I am not hurt by what you said but I also see you address the issue of FACT but didn’t address the issue that the claims about the stature were not facts. Believe it or not I would take up the mantel of any show that a person is hating on. Do I watch H50 yes, will I be hurt if it gets cancelled NO, shows come and go. As for the issue of H50 being cancelled if it weren’t for CBS who knows, I think most networks would be happy with the over 9 mil viewers. What I will address is ALL CBS shows are trending down and they have to be worried about that. NCIS had most viewers for Tuesday but lost demo, Person Of Interest taking a big hit on Tuesdays, Criminal Minds and CSI taking hits on Wednesdays, Elementary taking a hit on Thursdays. These numbers are more troublesome than Undercover Boss, H50 and BB on Fridays. All three of these shows had more viewers than other shows. CBS seems to be having a problem with demo this year so maybe they will have to rethink all the shows.

Are you kidding? It’s a TV SHOW for Pete’s sake. It’s fiction and You find some ridicolous claims against this show that it is hard to take you seriously now.
H50 is trending down because UB is going down and it’s not an excuse it is fact – just look at the ratings. H50 always rises over its predecessor in demo and in viewers so it’s a positive thing. If you cannot understand that then we have nothing to discuss.
You don’t like the show – fine but you come here each week just like you go to syndication board and you write the same comments how H50 is failing and how TNT overpaid blah, blah. Is there a show you like? Maybe you should focus on the shows that you like instead of coming here and trying to prove how badly H50 is doing – that’s childish.

  • Randyaw

Wish they’d move H50 to another night, that’s a wish for ME. Don’t care what some of the other H50 fans desire, their overly sophomoric tendencies got old quick.

    ———-
Not to mention Hostages which is free falling. CBS made some serious mistakes with their schedule this year. First of all they learnt nothing from last year’s failure of Partners on Monday and this year introduced not one but two new comedies on Monday and took away Mike and Molly which had very good ratings last year. Then, CBS moved PoI to Tuesday and the show lost 33% of its demo from last season and 4 million viewers. r’s also surprising that Elementary is holding so steady after what happened with Thursday line up. So Fridays don’t look so bad at all.
As for Randy, I’m affraid Leah there is no reasoning with this guy – he seems to be fixated with H50 for whatever reason. There are plenty of shows that took hit this year but Randy ad few others only H50 exists.

  • anna g

    Sorry for typos .

  • ToXiX

Why do people keep saying move The Middle to Fridays?

    It’s not going anywhere.

  • donnie

LMS did better with Malibu Country….. hmmmm ABC gets it wrong AGAIN !!!!

  • Leah

@Randy I have been posting here for several years and I have not once shouted victory for any show but I have given the opposing view when a show was being dumped on. Don’t say you are talking about FACTs when they are your opinion. If you want to talk fact, yes the numbers are down on all shows FACT. Some new shows such as Blacklist and Sleepy Hollow are doing great FACT. TBBT still going strong FACT, The Voice still going strong FACT. Just because a procedural has something different doesn’t make it Sci-Fi FACT.

  • Sam

Both ABC and CBS will drop some when regular programming returns on NBC and FOX. But H50 will be the one sufering the most . This is the show to watch when nothing else is on. He did better on Mondays until NBC got something there, then it took a nose dive while Castle stayed steady. Same will happen on Monday, the moment Grimm returns. It will drop to a 1.1 or 1.2 . RIP.
