Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    @ SJ

I will say this: no way CBS doesn’t go back to the “premiere 3 dramas in the fall” formula next season

    Why ?
If CBS cancels The Good Wife, The Mentalist, Hostages and Intelligence there will be enough room to premiere three new dramas next fall. Plus CBS could keep their 2-Hour Comedy block on Thursday and Undercover Boss in the Fall.

if Intelligence somehow manages to get renewed, Hawaii 5-0 could also be saying goodbye

Hawaii Five-0 is too valuable for CBS to be in danger especially with the ratings it’s getting on Friday.

This Revenge V Scandal thing is boring. Revenge is mediocre at best and Scandal is terrible. Desperate Housewives was the best show ABC made.

  • Nikki

Does anyone know when the cable ratings will be out for sunday. Im looking to see how Witches of East End did. Its great.

  • Baseball4Ever

    I LOVE BASEBALL….

  • Paris

LMAO WITH ROB TALKING ABOUT ACTING.

KERRY WASHINGTON’S EMMY NOMINATION SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.

THAT GIRL FROM REVENGE CAN’T EVEN WIN A KIDS CHOICE AWARD.

  • Katherine

Yeah, i’m at the point of “a pox on both your houses” on the Scandal and Revenge fans. And please don’t try to justify yourselves. There is plenty of poor behavior going around.

  • Adam

Is this Revenge vs. Scandal thing STILL going?

Can’t we just enjoy discussing the shows without the other being brought into it. I’m a fan of both but neither Revenge’s fans nor Scandal’s are doing any favours to them.

  • JJF

Sunday Night is becoming the new Friday night for scripted television.

  • Nosey

Ratings will be low b/c it is up against NFL, ratings look pretty balanced to me, it’s not like any one show dominates, don’t think any show will do too well against sports, networks will cancel a show and put a new show that will not do any better

  • reidjr

    Paris

This should not be about who wins what award but how good the show is.

  • Joe

    @ Paris

WOW, that was harsh lol. But also very true :)
By February Revenge will be struggling to stay above a 1.0, at which point ABC will decide to cut it’s loses and realize that syndication is not worth renewing such an embarrassing show! Meanwhile, Scandal will continue to be the face of the the network for years to come.

  • Steve A

And for the people saying Scandals main storyline of sleeping with the president can only go on for so long, what fo you say to the Revenge against the Graysons plotline?

  • Hel-luhr

I doubt CBS will just up and cancel their most critically acclaimed show (TGW) without at least FIRST attempting schedule triage and moving it away. Yes don’t jump on me with the Fan Excuse Bingo but if a bubble show has critical acclaim, it is a factor that goes into the mix of whether they stick with it in another time slot perhaps.

Also I would like to echo the question of what factors are legitimate and not just Fan Excuse Bingo. I would love to know at what point Bill or other admins on this site would say that the 18-49ers’ eyeballs are being dragged away if a 10.4 M for Walking Dead and 6-8 M for sports playoffs don’t cut it. Because that just strains credulity. What is the magic number , if 30 million 18-49er eyeballs are dragged for the premiere of a highly anticipated show or playoffs? Or is it never :p

  • Hel-luhr

And before anyone answers (if someone answers at all), I am not taking about the general anemic ratings for Good Wife and Mentalist and perhaps Revenge. I was trying to pin down the phenomenon of why there was a 0.3-0.4 drop in the 18-49 share for CBS last night in particular. And perhaps a slight drop in Revenges share. I am we’ll aware CBS didn’t have football overrun which sometimes boosts the rest of its night. If that is what people rest their laurels on in terms of factors, fair enough.

  • reidjr

    Steve

Look at Revenge part of the reason ratings are low is due to the storyline getting old for many.

  • Body of Poof

There’s no one to blame, but OUAT themselves.

  • reidjr

    Joe

I give Scanadal one more year maybe 2 before ratings really start to drop unless they make major changes and don’t drag the storyline on and on.

  • Gleebo

“Baseball a good sport but becoming a regional sport, and is buried under football’s (both college and pro) national dominance. This was a baseball playoff game against a football regular season game- and football still crushed it.
Shorten the season, which gets it out from football’s shadow, and it makes each baseball game even more important.”

Baseball is doing just fine for itself. This season overall attendance at games was only down 1% from 2012 and still the 6th highest attendance of any season in history.

The ratings shares will never be what football is or what it used to be because of more channel options and that’s just fine. You don’t mess with a tradition of length of seasons just to end the playoffs before football starts.

The only thing the drop in ratings might ever change for MLB is losing its deal with FOX which they just renewed last year to run through 2021.

Personally I would love to see MLB move from FOX and go exclusively to TBS and the MLB network. Anything to get away from FOXs Saturday blackouts and hearing Joe Buck ever again.

  • Steve A

I see that @reidjr. But I’m not sure that the revenge story line is to blame. I think the odd direction of season two is the main culprit. I have to admit I liked Revenge. But it irks me with the Scandal bashing. I will stop bashing Revenge. I apologize for making the comment section unenjoyable for anyone

  • Ron

Even DVRs cannot keep up with CBS Sunday night scheduling. No wonder The Mentalist is falling. I never know when it’s gonna start.
