Mexico-Panama Match on UniMás Outperforms Telemundo Among Adults 18-49 and 18-34 on October 11


MIAMI OCTOBER 14, 2013 – Univision Deportes, the sports arm of Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced that its coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier match featuring Mexico over Panama 2-1 reached 7.3 million Viewers 2+ who tuned in to watch all or part of the telecast on UniMás. Combined with the match featuring the USA over Jamaica 2-0, the matches reached 7.8 million Viewers 2+.

 

The World Cup Qualifier between Mexico and Panama was broadcast live on Friday, October 11 from 9:30 p.m. ET to 11:30 p.m. ET on UniMás delivered 4.6 million Total Viewers 2+ and 2,738,000 Adults 18-49. Among A18-49, the Mexico-Panama match ranks as the third most-viewed telecast ever on UniMás, trailing only the June 2007 Gold Cup Mexico-Guadeloupe match and March 2013 Mexico-USA match. Among P2+, it was the second most-viewed telecast ever on the network, trailing only the March 2013 Mexico-USA match. In addition, UniMás’s coverage of the World Cup Qualifier match between Mexico and Panama made UniMás the highest viewed broadcast station during the time period among UniMás broadcast game.

 

Regardless of language, UniMás was the highest rated broadcast station during the Mexico vs. Panama match (9:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m. ET):

  • Among Persons 2+ in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix
  • Among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento

 

During the Mexico vs. Panama match (9:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m. ET), UniMás stations had higher viewership that the ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX stations combined:

  • Among Persons 2+ in Los Angeles
  • Among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston and Sacramento
  • Among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento

 

During the Mexico vs. Panama match (9:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m. ET), UniMás stations had higher viewership that the Telemundo, Azteca, MundoFox and Estrella stations combined:

  • Among Persons 2+ and Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento
  • Among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento

 

The Mexico vs. Panama match on UniMás stations was the #1 broadcast program of the day in the following markets:

  •  Among Persons 2+ in Los Angeles, Miami and Houston
  • Among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento
  • Among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Chicago and Sacramento

 

The World Cup Qualifier between the USA and Jamaica was broadcast live on Friday, October 11 from 6:20 p.m. ET to 8:34 p.m. ET on UniMás delivered 287,000 Adults 18-49. The match bested August 14 daytime friendly vs. 11p Bosnia match (72,000 viewers) and the July 5 friendly vs. Guatemala (245,000 viewers).

 

On social, the World Cup Qualifier between Mexico and Panama on UniMás ranked as the number one Spanish-language network TV program on October 11.  In addition, the match positioned UniMás as the number one Spanish-language broadcast network of the day in social media activity, beating “America’s Next Top Model” (The CW), “MasterChef” (FOX), “Shark Tank” (ABC), “Blue Bloods” (CBS).     Mexico plays Costa Rica today. A loss will either make Mexico play New Zealand for a spot in the World Cup, or eliminate Mexico (if Panama beats the U.S.) Ratings should be through the roof.
