Will CBS's Monday Schedule Shuffle Help '2 Broke Girls' and 'Mom'? (Poll)

CBS has shuffled its Monday night line-up. We Are Men was canceled after just two airings. Now 2 Broke Girls is replacing it at 8:30, moving from its 9PM anchor spot. Once one of the brightest spots in CBS's line-up, the show has struggled this season. Last week it earned a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating, though that number built substantially from We Are Men's 1.8. Will following the still strong How I Met Your Mother help? For the next two weeks, Mom will follow repeats of CBS's highest rated program, The Big Bang Theory. CBS clearly had big expectations for the comedy, which was created by TBBT showrunner Chuck Lorre and stars A-listers Anna Farris and Allison Janney,  Will a new lead-in improve its numbers? Last week it garnered a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating.  Make your predictions, then discuss your reasoning in the comments.

I hope Hostages will go up a little tonight at least to prevent it from being pulled/moved by next week. My guess is CBS’s intent would be to just keep it in that slot for as long as possible this fall just to burn through the episodes and hold it off until Intelligence premieres midseason because they don’t have any suitable replacements. Kind of like what happened to The Mob Doctor last year.

Not sure why CBS would even risk putting We Are Men on the schedule to begin with, single camera comedies don’t work on Mondays and I knew it would flop the second CBS released their fall schedule in May

A few tenths, but nothing major. BBT reruns will do well, but the unconscious comparison between it and Mom will cancel out any lead-in improvement for the latter (perhaps a +0.1 at most).

  • Dan

I still think once January comes along the comedies will gain momentum.

There will be no Voice DWTS, or Sleepy Hollow and their replacements aren’t powerhouses so the comedies should go up to 3.0s by then.

Trophy Wife holding up? What are you smoking? It’s in its third episode and it barely passes Last Man Standing and The Neighbors, both of which are Friday shows, and The Goldbergs are at 50% of its premiere. Despite lead-in problems (which doesn’t matter) Back in the Game and Super Fun Night are in fact in a better position to be renewed.

2 broke girls is entertaining, just. the problem with it are the supporting cast being to weak, no storylines of their own. Also in each episode it focuses on the one plot, no sub plot. if a viewer is not interested in the main story, there is no second story to fall back on.

    Dancing with the Stars-1.9

    How I Met Your Mother-3.3
    2 Broke Girls-2.7
    The Big Bang Theory-2.5

    Sleepy Hollow-2.8

    The Voice-4.7
    The Blacklist-3.1

I think so. 2 Broke Girls, while not good anymore, will definitely benefit from HIMYM’s lead-in. It won’t benefit a lot, but it’ll benefit.

TBBT will majorly help 9pm as it’ll be the 2nd highest rated show of the night, likely. (It regularly got high 2s and low 3s in reruns last year)

    This will help Mom too.

Hostages, is a lost cause I think, so I don’t really care what happens to its ratings.

Make a poll for Hart of Dixie and Beauty and the Beast. It will bring out the CW haters.

@queeneeuq – Trophy Wife is holding up with similar numbers against Mindy Project Remember last season Apartment 23 was flopping with worse than what Trophy Wife is getting now. Plus Trophy Wife has Voice and NCIS LA competition.

ABC is looking at retention at their Wed comedies. The Middle got a 2.2 (X Factor got a 2.2 and Survivor is at 2.5 so Middle is in between) However when a show like Back in the Game drops from a 2.2 to a 1.8 and then Modern Family bounces up to a 3.9 that in no way makes Back in the Game in a better position especially when in the past The Neighbors and Suburgatory have both held on to a healthier chunk of their Middle lead in with less competition.

Super Fun Night may be saved for now but its retention out of Modern Family is getting worse and going lower and lower. It will probably get a full season but if it aired in Trophy Wife’s slot it would probably do worse.

When You have a lot of comedies, sometimes you have to look and see how the shows do compared to others on their same nights.

I think 2BG will do not much but a little better at 9:00. Even though it’s not really a good show anymore, I would still watch it at 8:30 because I don’t watch anything then. I couldn’t watch it at 9:00 this season because of Sleepy Hollow and I couldn’t watch it last season because of The Voice, so I think it’ll pick up at 8:30. But since HIMYM is barely getting a 3.0 I don’t think 2BG will hit a 3.0 until January or unless something big happens. Mom will do better as well but not as much, possibly 2.5. But I do have a feeling in January when there’s no DWTS, Voice or Sleepy Hollow they’re all gonna go up a lot, even Mom will possibly hit a 3.0.

    Okay. Fair enough.

  • Alan

I hope 2BG goes up! We Are Men hurted it, but now that it’s gone, HIMYM will help it.

I really don’t see it making that much of a difference, at most I see 2 Broke Girls going up +0.2 but I don’t really see Mom going up. I mean maybe I’m wrong but it a Big Bang repeat helps it any, I’ll be surprised.

  • NJ Viewer

CBS should can both of them. I’m sick of “comedies” that aren’t funny, and have to rely on raunch and sexual innuendos for laughs.

  • Caitlyn

@NJ Viewer and laugh tracks… I’m really sick of laugh tracks.

  • Samunto

Before we get over ourselves, let’s not forget that TBBT was repeating quite low through summer. But this being fall, the rpt should cook up high 2s.

  • rgxx

All the shows that have the word Men, mom or dads ALL are lame.

This is new for CBS – to shuffle after 2 weeks.

  • rgxx

*in the title of the show are ALL lame*

    My Prediction:

    3.2 HIMYM
    2.8 2 Broke Girls
    3.0 TBBT
    2.8 Mom

How come CBS doesn’t have a larger episode order for the Big Bang ??? Like instead of the conventional 22/24 , 25 – 28. To have as back up for these situations where they need to plug a hole or for sweeps ??
