Once Upon A Time In Wonderland premiered to a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating on Thursday at 8pm, 23% below the premiere of also canceled Last Resort last season, tapping it as certain to be canceled. The Cancellation Bear will dine on Alice and friends by the end of the season, maybe sooner.

Back In The Game was moved down to "toss up". Trophy Wife and The Neighbors are now both certain to be canceled. These changes will likely make their way to the post headlines over the next few weeks.

Is the bear feeling nervous about his pre-season call that the ABC syndication gods will demand that  Revenge be renewed for a fourth season? Just a bit. Will the syndication gods have the mojo to save the show if its ratings keep sinking? Stay tuned.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I am actually going to go out on a limb and say that BOTH Revenge and Nashville will be renewed for the next season, just considering all the damage they have done. For Revenge, it would be a 4th and last season.

Just so that I understand you correctly. Are you saying that AoS gets cancelled over both of these shows, or that ABC renews 7+ any successful spring dramas?

  • SJ

    @Shepherd

Well, of course YOU can. You’ve been hating on Revenge since last winter.

No chance in hell Revenge drops to a 1.0 or lower, not this season nor next.

  • erica

Revenge is one the few successes ABC has had for Sundays. It will get one more (short?) season.

  • Warm Stinky Farts

@Dave Syndication deals don’t work that way at all. You can’t “bundle 2 shows together” And re-cap shows don’t count in syndication deals as an episode, unless its an original episode with a recap flashback as part of the story.

  • CraveRecords

Revenge is an ABC Studios production. I will announce syndication a deal with E! or VH1 or Oxygen this spring. That will get it a fourth season, but unfortunately, the sporadic scheduling of ABC’s Sunday shows in the spring (and a terrible second season plot) have taken a toll. And bringing Aiden back this year…snore.

With all the specials and awards shows on ABC’s Sunday schedule, Sunday 9-11 should just be movies or specials.

  • Shepherd

    @SJ

I’ve never “hated on Revenge”, I have no problem with the show. I’ve only given unbiased (and often correct) opinions on its ratings.

I could easily be wrong about the spring ratings, but we’ll have to wait and see. O:)

  • Shepherd

awww.. my smiley didn’t work!

  • rgxx

figures – Wonderland…so we are going to stop watching it now. :( so I don’t get hooked in more. Visually for TV it’s well done.

  • Alecia

The neighbors is a pretty funny and adorably show. Too bad more people aren’t watching. I’ll just continue to enjoy it until it gets cancelled and hopefully all the episodes will be shown.

As for Revenge, I don’t see it getting cancel unless it falls below a 1 and I don’t think that’s going to happen, at least not this season.

  • BBFan

I think the Bear has od’d on his honey. ABC’s Wonderland vs NFL:Giants vs Bears at 8pm. What did it expect? The Bear hasn’t seen it’s L7 #’s yet, but it’s already writing the show off? I expect it’s 2nd ep to beat it’s 1st as the NFL:Sea vs AZ. Wonderland is leading on super tough Thu, so it’s got room to be moved to Tue (after Marvel), Sun (after Neverland), or even Mon (before Dancing) before it gets axed. Castle does fine at 10pm on Mon, but Dancing can do better in that hr & pressure Blacklist more with Voice viewers.

As for the CW’s Beast, does he know nothing of the CW’s past on Mon & Fri’s? Does he really believe Beast can’t beat Dixie at 8pm? There’s no Hollow then . Dixie can easily move to Fri as a lead for Top Model which doesn’t care what it’s lead is. Beast can move to 8pm Mon, & open the 9pm slot for something else.

The Bear needs to wise up. How often does an ABC, CBS, NBC, or FOX affiliate move an entire night of programming to Sat or Sun in lieu of a sporting event? It’s a regular yearly occurence for CW affiliates. The CW is more comparable with a cable network like Lifetime.

  • gerry

i would imagine revenge will land a deal with lifetime (partially owned by abc i believe) just as desperate housewives has, brothers and sisters has, greys has, etc. revenge will be fine for its final 4th season.

it went up against the highest rated show airing currently, and it dipped but it didn’t flatline. and again i find myself in the position of saying IF THEY END REVENGE WHAT WOULD ABC PLACE THERE THAT WOULDN’T TAKE A DIVE IN THE RATINGS?

they’re not going to risk the scandal success of thursday night. they’re not going to pit SHIELD against a comic/graphic novel juggernaut that would be drawing the same audience. i could see them playing with the ouat franchises a bit and moving revenge to 10, but while that would help revenge, it would hurt ouat. anything in that 9pm slot is going to hurt, especially while up against TWD. so i feel like abc is ok with just cutting their losses and planning to get revenge to its conclusion in s4.

  • Scandalicious

I think the ABC field is the most interesting out of all the networks. CBS and the CW have found success in more of their new shows (minus We are Men and possibly Mom) while the freshmen shows on NBC and Fox have been pretty unsuccessful (minus The Blacklist and Sleepy Hollow). ABC is somewhere in the middle. If SHIELD can stabilize it will be a hit. Both The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife have the potential to be great shows but because of poor scheduling they will probably both end up getting canceled. While Back in the Game and Super Fun Night, neither of which is very high quality, stand good chances at renewal. Sophomore show The Neighbors is getting embarrassing numbers. On the drama front ABC really can’t find any new success (SHIELD could be an exception). Luck 7 and Betrayal tanked out of the gate and Wonderland is close behind. Even more established dramas like Nashville and Revenge are having trouble this year. However, the reign of Scandal continues. Old faithfuls Grey’s and Castle continue to do solid business. There is just so much going on that it is impossible to predict!

    What ABC should do asap

    SUNDAY

    OUAT WONDERLAND-7:00
    OUAT-8:00
    GREY’s- 9:00
NASHVILLE-10:00- Will most likely improve upon Betrayals dreary performance.

    MONDAY

    DWTS-8
    CASTLE-10

    TUES

    S.H.I.E.L.D- 8
NEW DRAMA-9-ABC should just give up on sitcoms here
    MEW DRAMA-10

    WEDNESDAY

    MIDDLE-8
SUPER FUN NIGHT or GOLDBERGS- Both not great but they do provide a few laughs. One of these will probably be canceled
    MODERN-9
TROPHY WIFE or GOLDBERGS- One of these will be canceled
    REVENGE-10- Back where it belongs.

    THURSDAY

AFHV or The LOOK OUT (formally NIGHTLINE PRIMETIME) Cheap programing here for now. 8
    SCANDAL- 9
NEW DRAMA- The monster hit preceding this SHOULD help.

    FRIDAY

SHARK TANK- 8 – Start of the night strong
PRIMETIME WWYD/THE LOOK OUT 9- whatever works out best
    20/20-10

  • erica

Man, is there anything ABC can do with that relentless Death Slot?

  • gerry

    @ fred

thank you for at least making a schedule with something else in the slot! if abc is willing to risk moving grey’s to sunday, i think its all a good idea. i just think that they have such problems on other nights that they’d be hesitant to risk their thursday greys/scandal combo.

  • anon123

It seems to me that Bill & co. are deliberately slowly increasing renew/cancel index for Castle. And last week the index was .97 and this week is .96 (with an increase in viewership, smh) :?

  • ToXiX

The Goldbergs may be the only freshman comedy to see a 2nd season. (That is until the midseason comedies premiere and we see how they do)

  • FRED

    @Gerry

I realize its not perfect, but its better than one ABC has now. On Sunday I think OUAT WONDERLAND should improve the 7PM slot, Grey’s would improve upon what Revenge is doing now. And Nashville should improve upon what Betrayal is doing. So Sunday changes should improve what they are doing now.

THursday is a bit risky moving the still strong Grey’s away, but SCANDAL is a monster right now and it can explode (a good thing) at 9PM. ABC would have to find a suitable companion at 10.

  • Ted Craig

“Man, is there anything ABC can do with that relentless Death Slot?”

Yes, put on a show that is both accessible and good. There is no reason the network can’t beat Fox, The CW and NBC 8-9 on Thursdays. Combined with Grey’s and Scandal, ABC could win the night.
