With most of  CW's Fall premieres now behind us, the early news is grim for Beauty & The Beast. The Cancellation Bear correctly predicted it would be renewed last season, but with a premiere rating of just a 0.3, he's moving it directly to "likely to be canceled" this season.

The non-Monday CW ratings last week were all in a range that suggests all of those shows will be renewed. The bear has rookie's The Originals and The Tomorrow People as "likely to be renewed" until he sees another episode or two's ratings. As always, predictions are liable to change quickly this early in the season.

The CW syndication gods will demand that Hart Of Dixie be renewed for a fourth season. Maybe it'll be a short one like Nikita's, or maybe not. The bear doesn't get into predicting episode orders. Crazy fans, and anti-fans, who'd like to predict in the comments are welcome to.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I wish BATB was doing better because it’s definitely one of my fave series on the CW. I guess ill just enjoy it while it lasts.

  • Shepherd

    no surprises here.

  • Adir

The Tomorrow People doing better then The Originals

  • Eelna

No arrow and ttp do worse than to

  • CrimTV

    @Adir

Um no it isn’t, The Originals has a higher index number!

  • gerry

i’m really wondering where batb will land when the ratings come out for today. if its same or lower, i am hoping cw just kicks it over to friday and moves tcd back to monday with heart of dixie WHERE I SAID IT BELONGED THE WHOLE TIME.

  • Mitchell

Insane ‘Beasties’ flooding the site in 3,2,1…

  • Sarah

    BATB was boring and bad!

  • paddii

BATB will be gone by the end of this year. The ratings are more than horrible. And if The CW would combine BATB with HoD, they can also do it with Starcrossed and HoD. So there is no reason for CW to keep this show.

  • Hoyt

    Time to kill the Beast!

  • anna g

I tried to watch this show because of Kristin Kreuk. I could take 4 episodes – the acting by leads and supporting cast was horrendous. Writing was ridiculous -it was definitely the worst new show last season.

  • THE OLD MAN

    No arguments here

  • Jonay Moon

Does anyone know if Beauty and The Beast will get an episode cut??

Or move to Fridays after Nikita finishes

  • MaryAnn

I really hope the CW will try BATB in another timeslot before making a renew/cancel decision. With the greatly improved quality this season it at least deserves that chance.

“Does anyone know if Beauty and The Beast will get an episode cut??”

I’d be stunned if it didn’t air all 22eps for this season.

  • Stephen

BATB will not see another season. Dixie probably gets a short season 4 and then done. Rest of CW shows doing solid by their standards – could be a better season for them this year than last. Still have to see how Reign does – I could see it being another situation where it gets ok ratings behing TVD but if moved could drop significantly.

    CW 2014 renewal table :

    Sure : TVD
    Sure : SPN
    Likely : Arrow
    Maybe : TO
    Maybe : TTP
    ————–
    Friday : HoD
    Friday : ???
    ————–
    New
    New
    New

It’s got nothing to do wit “deserves”, MaryAnn. It’s just about numbers. BatB was lucky to be renewed for a second season, as Hart of Dixie was the year before. It’s easier to get a third, as syndication starts to be a peripheral factor, but while syndication alone can all but guarantee a fourth season, it can’t overcome dismal numbers in a second season. And these really are dismal. It’s getting crucified now that its out from behind the shelter its lead in provided last year.

The issue for the CW now isn’t whether to renew. It’s how to deal with being stuck with 20 more episodes of a show that will likely have ratings invisible to the human eye, by the time the Spring squeeze arrives and pushes ratings down across the board. With any other network, we wouldn’t see a third episode. Not just in the obvious sense that no other network would tolerate a show with a .3 rating in absolute terms, but also in the sense that its ratings relative to the rest of the CW line up are dreadful.

This being the CW, well Batb stands a reasonable chance of seeing out its order, possibly on Friday (where it will do even worse, hard as that is to imagine), or maybe even in Summer. The CW have paid for it after all, and they have to fill their broadcast hours somehow. But while Mondays are tough, there is no chance of a show this low rated getting moved to a more desirable slot. If it moves it’s to somewhere even worse.

My advice is to enjoy your show while it lasts. At least the writers will be in no doubt about whether there will be a third season, so you should get a proper ending.

  • Kim

Wow! TVD is no longer #1 on the channel. Go SPN! SPN is FAR from over! CW has trouble making hits, so except this show on the air for a LONG time to come!

Glad TVD is still above Arrow.

  • rocky

BATB has no chance at that timeslot. Look at the comp. The Voice, DWTS, new hit Sleepy Hollow, etc. No CW show can compete here. Move it before u cancel. Let’s see what Reign does in the old slot first.
