With most of  CW's Fall premieres now behind us, the early news is grim for Beauty & The Beast. The Cancellation Bear correctly predicted it would be renewed last season, but with a premiere rating of just a 0.3, he's moving it directly to "likely to be canceled" this season.

The non-Monday CW ratings last week were all in a range that suggests all of those shows will be renewed. The bear has rookie's The Originals and The Tomorrow People as "likely to be renewed" until he sees another episode or two's ratings. As always, predictions are liable to change quickly this early in the season.

The CW syndication gods will demand that Hart Of Dixie be renewed for a fourth season. Maybe it'll be a short one like Nikita's, or maybe not. The bear doesn't get into predicting episode orders. Crazy fans, and anti-fans, who'd like to predict in the comments are welcome to.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

SPN, TVD and TO are the top 3 performers!! :D :D :D

Arrow and Beauty are right where they belong on the index!

  • Dan S

I found Tomorrow People to be tedious & boring. Don’t be surprised if the numbers don’t hold up in the weeks ahead

  • CreacK

I would put Hart of Dixie as likely to be renewed, just because the ratings are horrible and I dont know if the syndication gods could even save it.

  • Melanie

I’m taking a snapshot of this Renew/Cancel! SPN at the top of the Network! Probably won’t last but woo hoo while it does!!

  • AAA

    @Kim
I am as happy as you are about SPN, but let’s get real here: it will drop today down to its 0.9-1.0 range (which is still very good) because of Voice. Still amazingly good for 9 years old show which CW was using shamelessly to plug all unattractive holes in their schedule.
BaTB was scarified to a Monday death slot. It’s a goner. I feel sorry for fans, the fandom seems like very passionate, and too bad it’s too small. Unfortunately every show needs many more casual viewers than fans.

  • Tessa

I never thought I would see the day that Supernatural surpasses The Vampire Diaries in ratings. This must be the Netflix Exodus. Most of those watching the show on Netflix must now have caught up and joined the ranks of live viewers.

What I find interesting is how last year everyone credited Supernatural’s success to Arrow. Move it away from Arrow they said and it would tank. Well now it is moved away and look what happened. Arrow dipped. I hope this is enough for people to accept that Supernatural is a successful show that despite its age, has a lot of viewers and stands on its own.

  • CraveRecords

If HoD stays in the .4-.6 range, I don’t think next season will be shortened or announced as it’s last (though next year’s ratings could dictate that decision). The CW has had some early successes by its standards this year, but it’s not been unusual for The CW’s successes to fall apart by the end of a season.

I’m not sure what Rachel Bilson gets paid per episode, but HoD has to be one of the network’s least expensive shows.

  • AAA

    Sorry , sacrificed.. Damn phone

  • Deena

I feel like BATB is a good show, its just not doing good in the time slot that its in. It has some intense competition. It did a good job when it was on Thursdays.

  • Lainey

HOD has a pretty strong online following- Hulu, Netflix, iTunes, etc. so I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a full fourth season. Even with these numbers I wouldn’t be surprised to see HOD continue onto a 5th season as well but only if CW is smart about it. I HOPE The CW sees they should move “Dixie” to a better time slot that can improve it’s ratings a little bit and extend the life of the show. Sending BATB to Fridays might also give it a chance for another season as well. It seems like BATB/Nikita would be a good pairing. Aren’t there some mid-season shows coming back to CW also?

  • Vulnavia

I wonder what would happen with the numbers if your favorite show was aired a day earlier in Canada and you could see it 24 hours before that on CW. That’s what happens with BatB.

  • rgxx

Arrow is the only show I care about on CW for now – but I am considering checking out the Nikita series when it’s complete on DVD.

  • rayX

    @Vulnavia
it deosn’t have any effect on rating at all. i mean, a lot of shows aired a day earlier in canada but they still can maintain their rating (like Castle, etc). i’m no hater or whatsoever, but just please accept the fact that BATB is pulling 0.3 this season. the sooner you accept this fact, the sooner you can get ready to let this show go (in case it will be cancelled).

  • Scandalicious

While I find Beauty and the Beast to be a ridiculous show, it isn’t onset;y very fair to expect more. The competition in its time slot is insane. I think it should be canceled by the end of the season but I think the CW would be smart to leave it where it is (at least until The Voice is over). There is no reason to sacrifice a different show that has the potential to be a hit by putting it in this time slot and trying to salvage Beauty and the Beast. I am so glad both The Originals and The Tomorrow People look to be relative hits for the CW! Both are great shows.

  • Secret shame

They aren’t likely to move either Monday show anywhere, except perhaps Friday. They won’t risk the shows that are doing better in a death slot to help out shows that aren’t going to do more than a .6 (HoD) or lower (Batb) no matter where they are.

These are not new shows. They know what can be expected from them at this point. HoD is a .6 to .4 show no matter where they put it. That’s been what it’s been doing for years now. So they’ll keep it in tough slots and take the .4, while giving shows with undetermined top ends the chance to succeed. Batb doesn’t even have that consistent record to fall back on, but if it couldn’t hold .6s or .5s for one season with the best lead in the CW has, it won’t get and hold those numbers anywhere. And it certainly won’t better them, as a new show might and as their “hit” shows do.

The only reasonably likely move is Batb to Friday, HoD to 9pm, new show to 8. But that certainly isn’t going to help Batb in the slightest. It wouldn’t be so much the final nail in its coffin as the tramping down of the last bit of dirt on its grave. It might help HoD in the unlikely event that the 8pm show is a hit. Unlikely because (a) it’s the CW, (b) it’s not a desirable spot for the new show to take over and (c) if they were super positive about its chances it would probably not have been held back.

  • BBFan

The Bear has od’d on his honey again. Does he know nothing of the CW’s past on Mon & Fri’s? Does he really believe Beast can’t beat Dixie at Mon 8pm? There’s no Hollow then. The pathetic Dixie which the Bear seems to love, can easily move to Fri as a lead for Top Model which doesn’t care what it’s lead is. Beast can move to 8pm Mon, & open the 9pm slot for something else.

The Bear needs to wise up. How often does an ABC, CBS, NBC, or FOX affiliate move an entire night of programming to Sat or Sun in lieu of a sporting event? It’s a regular yearly occurence for CW affiliates. The CW is more comparable with a cable network like Lifetime.

  • Brandy

@BBFn, Carrie Diaries starts next week as the leadin for To Model, which will finish its cycle soon.BatB ,with it’s current ratings would not be a good leadin ,especially for a new showCW hopes will be a hit.
@Secret Shame, have you seen the CW schedule for last season and this season?New shows, with the exception of Arrow and Carrie Diaries(which changed timeslots cause 90210 wasn’t a good leadin ratings wise andCW believed it would/could be a self-starter like Arrow) have been at 9m.The Originals is another example of self-starter.
    Last season:BatB 9pm Emily Owens MD,9pm, Cult 9pm
    This season:Tommorrow People9pm,Reign 9m

  • Secret shame

Brandy, yes the CW have generally preferred to put new shows at 9. However, starting after HoD is a very bad slot for a new show. And if the replacement is a high school show it may be a more natural 8pm fit anyway. Certainly if it were up to me, if Batb gets exiled to Friday, and a new show had to go into a Monday slot, I’d put it before rather than after HoD. The difference would likely be very slight, but the CW has to give its new shows every chance it can give them. A .4 lead in certainly doesn’t provide that.

BBfan, there’s no favouritism being shown towards HoD. What do you think the chances are that the “bear” has ever seen an episode of either show? Few enough people have, given the ratings. HoD is the favoured child of the syndication Gods this year, just as Nikita was last year. They all taste the same to the bear. But to the people running the CW, HoD represents a better monetary return than a lower rated show that isn’t on the verge of syndication.

  • PurpleDrazi

I wonder what would happen with the numbers if your favorite show was aired a day earlier in Canada and you could see it 24 hours before that on CW. That’s what happens with BatB.

Chances are the people who are savvy enough to find it online and watch it early probably wouldn’t watch it live anyway. Even if it didn’t air ahead of time in Canada they would probably DVR or stream online which wouldn’t help the ratings.

  • Restless

As PurpleDrazi said. People should also remember that it’s only Nelsen selected families that determine ratings. How many Nelsen families that like a show would rather watch it early online but not live, presumably knowing their watching or not determines the ratings by which the show is canceled or renewed? I’m gonna guess not that many. Non-Nelsen families, doesn’t matter if they watch early, live, DVR or not at all the ratings will be the same.
