Nikita final season

With most of  CW's Fall premieres now behind us, the early news is grim for Beauty & The Beast. The cancellation bear correctly predicted it would be renewed last season, but with a premiere rating of just a 0.3, he's moving it directly to "likely to be canceled" this season.

The non-Monday CW ratings last week were all in a range that suggests all of those shows will be renewed. The bear has rookie's The Originals and The Tomorrow People as "likely to be renewed" until he sees another episode or two's ratings. As always, predictions are liable to change quickly this early in the season.

The CW syndication gods will demand that Hart Of Dixie be renewed for a fourth season. Maybe it'll be a short one like Nikita's, or maybe not. The bear doesn't get into predicting episode orders. Crazy fans, and anti-fans, who'd like to predict in the comments are welcome to.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @ Danimals

I don’t think CW will move so many shows next season. This is what I think will happen:

    8:00 – The Tomorrow People
    9:00 – Flash

Use The Tomorrow People to launch Flash and increase Monday ratings.

    8:00 – The Originals
    9:00 – Supernatural

Supernatural is CW’s #1 Show and it doesn’t need to move.

    8:00 – Arrow
    9:00 – NEW DRAMA

Premiere a new Sci-Fi Drama after Arrow (not its spin-off) because it’s still strong.

    8:00 – The Vampire Diaries
    9:00 – Supernatural Spin-Off

Supernatural is really good paired with The Originals and was a monster after The Vampire Diaries. Use TVD to launch Supernatural spin-off.

8:00 – Hart of Dixie (Final Season)
    9:00 – America’s Next Top Model / (R)

Hart of Dixie is the next Nikita. It’ll be Renewed for a 13-22 episode final season.

    Thoughts ?

I love BATB. There is not much advertising of the show and when it would come on. I missed the first two episodes because all they advertise is The tommorow people, Reign, and Arrow. BATB has not been given a fair shake on this station and I hope someone else will pick it up if they are crazy enough to cancel this evcellent show.

  • Dave

I think the SPN spinoff will be all but certain for The CW.

The Flash however, not so much. It’s not that Arrow is tanking but it’s a disappointmbent. I’m sure The CW was expecting at least 1.0-1.3 with at least over 3 million viewers for the premiere. All the hype and excess promotion was just wasted. Heck SPN garnered more than that With much much less promotion.

I also think it’s way too soon to call TTP a “new hit series”(as the CW would put it). I see it lasting 22 episodes and gone by May.

  • eelna

I think the CW is quite underrated, especially shows like CARRIE DIARIES or HART OF DIXIE. They’re actually quite funny (HOD) and entertaining (TCD). Honestly in Genre SCI-FI and Fantasy, it has better shows than SyFy or any other broadcast, only competing with ABC (OUAT; OUATIW; AOS). But honestly SPN; ARROW; BATB; TTP; TO; TVD are better. Even though last season of TVD was not very good, I liked the first two episodes of this season: Every show goes down and comes up very fast. (SPN in season 6, 7 especially).

  • rehabber

I have to say that Beauty is better this year but the acting is still lame. No sleep loss if it goes.

  • rehabber

I did not think I would care for The Originals unless Elijah was in it often, but to my surprise I am really liking it..much better than TVD. Not into the college scene at all.
Supernatural is back!!! At least the first 2 eps have been classic brother story and back to basics. Now if I could just get a mind wipe about season 8. lol

  • omabin

Actually I disagree with the notion that Hart should be a certain renewal. I wouldn’t move it lower than likely renewal, but its relative ratings are currently too low for it to be anything more than that.

I mean, even if you give an 80% bump to its ratings due to syndication (which is the number that I usually use and applies reasonably well), you would get an index like this:
    Supernatural: 1.34
    The Vampire Diaries: 1.22
    The Originals: 1.05
    Arrow: 1.00
    The Tomorrow People: 1.00
    Hart of Dixie: 0.80
    Beauty and the Beast: 0.33

It is still the second most likely show to be cancelled. I am sure this will change when reign and the carrie diaries premiere and there are still the midseaosn dramas, as well as open slots on friday. I think it will be renewed. I wouldn’t however, classify it as “certain”

  • Greg

I agree with everything on your schedule except moving The Tomorrow People. I think they should move Supernatural. Its fanbase will follow it everywhere and the show has helped launch their other current hits (The Vampire Diaries, Arrow and The Originals). Also, I don’t think it would be a good idea to have two nights with TVD and Supernatural

    So I would go with:

    MONDAYS – Flash/Supernatural
    TUESDAYS – The Originals/New Drama
    WEDNESDAYS – Arrow/The Tomorrow People

Apparently, Hart of Dixie’s dirt cheap, so I would probably bet on a full final season (which’s better than launching a new show on Fridays anyway).

Hey Bill – very serious question here. I review BaTB at another site. I also happen to know someone who knows a bit about Nielsen families (they’re nothing like I expected).

All of that aside… your predictions make about as much sense as anything else. Considering the serious competition with Sleepy Hollow (similar genre – not even counting the voice since it’s not similar) and the fact that BaTB is available via nefarious ways prior to airing, do you think it would do better airing on Fridays, BEFORE the Sunday airing in Canada?

I used to think Nielsen families were internet savvy, but I’m not so sure any more. I’m not sure the average family even gives a poo about TV. BUT, given the small viewership already, only a small percentage would have to download, watch early and skip to view Sleepy Hollow. Thoughts?

  • Glenn

Beauty and the beast is a really good show and i’m certain that the show would do way better in Europe or other continents if there was more advertising.Beauty and the Beast im sure they earn alot money by making this show.nationally and internationally.

  • Dani

BATB … I love your show! But you’re competing with so much on Monday nights!! I mean come on … Monday Night Football

  • tscchope

There wouldn’t have been a second season of BaTB had it not secured the necessary international sales. So long as it continues to do that, BaTB will be on air.

  • M

I love Beauty and the Beast, hope it doesnt get cancelled.
It is one of my favorite shows!

  • david

Mondays doing really low for the CW,
Tuesday doing really good now. I acant watch Beauty and the Bast on monday nights because i am busy then. But i would expect them to move Beauty and the Beast to Fridays midseason for a new show on Mondays.

  • BBFan

I just looked at the L7 ratings that were issued on Oct 13th. Top Model, Whose Line, & Capture all showed 50% gains. I think that will decide Beast’s fate. If it’s showing a 50% gain or better in L7 then CW will move it to a better slot before deciding to cancel it. Otherwise, it’s gone.

  • Pepper

Here’s how I see the CW schedule – just a little different than CBS viewer

    8:00 – The Originals
9:00 – The Tomorrow People or NEW DRAMA if TTP tanks

    8:00 – Flash (NEW)
    9:00 – Supernatural

    8:00 – Arrow
    9:00 – Supernatural Spin-Off (NEW)

    8:00 – The Vampire Diaries
    9:00 – NEW SHOW

8:00 – Hart of Dixie (Short Final Season)
    9:00 – America’s Next Top Model / (R)

  • CBSviewer

    @ Greg

Supernatural is an old Show and it needs to stay where it is. I can’t see it moving every season. Tuesday is a good night and Supernatural should stay there until it ends in 2 or 3 years.

  • fani

We’ll BATB could have a better rating if they move it back to Thursdays. It just seems like they are doing it on purpose. I honestly wish that they wouldn’t cancel it because it’s my favorite show and I’m sure a lot of fans are going to be disappointed.

  • iSayso

The CW sucks! Let the bear maul ’em all :)

  • Deedee

No doubt he BATB fans will be riotous when it gets canceled (and it will) so I guess it’s just good that there aren’t many of them.

I think many people are overlooking the fact that ratings aren’t the lone factor in choosing which shows to cancel, and not only is BATB preforming horribly, it is also one of the most expensive of the lower rated shows.
