Nikita final season

With most of  CW's Fall premieres now behind us, the early news is grim for Beauty & The Beast. The Cancellation Bear correctly predicted it would be renewed last season, but with a premiere rating of just a 0.3, he's moving it directly to "likely to be canceled" this season.

The non-Monday CW ratings last week were all in a range that suggests all of those shows will be renewed. The bear has rookie's The Originals and The Tomorrow People as "likely to be renewed" until he sees another episode or two's ratings. As always, predictions are liable to change quickly this early in the season.

The CW syndication gods will demand that Hart Of Dixie be renewed for a fourth season. Maybe it'll be a short one like Nikita's, or maybe not. The bear doesn't get into predicting episode orders. Crazy fans, and anti-fans, who'd like to predict in the comments are welcome to.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I agree with you, Starship, about H of D. I explained in another thread the value of consistency to a network, especially the CW. One year it was H of D, Ringer and Secret Circle in competition. The latter two premiered much higher, but dropped significantly. Ringer was getting .5s (and this was 2 years ago) by the new year, so it was gone. In the battle between Secret Circle and H of D, I think several factors played into the decision: (1) cost, (2) H of D was actually lower rated until the very end (oh, those last string of .5’s killed you, SS) but it was consistent as opposed to SS whose trajectory was clearly down, (3) the decision to attempt a “medical” night with H of D and Emily (it failed but it was an understandable attempt). That was the year my SPN ended up second highest rated show on the CW in May at .7 on a Friday.

@Edna: Are you seriously asking why they moved B&B away from Thursday when it was getting .5s by the end of the season? The rest of us are asking why it was renewed.

@Sarah: Most of the predictions are that H of D will move to Friday next year and get however many episodes it needs to be syndicated on a “family” network. If it were getting these ratings in its second season (like B&B), we’d probably be predicting cancellation for it too.

@Brooklyn Refeugee. Hod is cheap to make, does well online,in DVr ,in W18-34 and now is in its third season which very Likley means a fourth for syndication. In its first season, it’s ratings we’re extremely stable compared to fellow freshman series Ringer & SC and at the end of that season for the last three weeks, it was CWs third highest rated showand it also grew out out of its lead in.
show.Last season, it’s ratings we’re again very stable and it was the fourth or fifth highest rated show, almost neck in neck with BaTB.
@Sarah, that 0.1 can make all the difference especially on a network with such low ratings as CW and where the very low rated ones are so close. As you said, HoD is doing a tenth better than BaTB right now.BaatB is doing Nikita,Cult,Carrie Diaries like ratings.Once again, BaTB is also not growing out of its leadin. Also, as Tom mentioned,HoD is more Likley to be renewed for syndication as its only a season away where’s BatB needs two more season for that.

Sad. I love Beauty and the Beast. Hope that the ratings come up and prediction proves wrong. Boooooo…..:-(

  • Donnie

Normal people can’t exist on CW except HoD. LOL.

  • Jon

The BatB fans is pushing showcase to buy it if (when) CW cancels it. Are they really that deluded :-)

    Beast’s 2012 premiere night: VD 1.6 /3483k, Beast 1.3/3158k
    Reign’s 2013 premiere night: VD 1.3 /2930k, Reign 0.8/1980k

    HoD & Beast wkly gains: HOD was +4% tv, +40% w18-34, +20% w18-49. Beast +7% tv, +67% w18-34, +25% w18-49.
    Delayed gains: HoD +42% tv, +64% 18-34, +75% w18-34, & +58% 18-49. Beast +43% tv, +74% 18-34, +78% w18-34, +49% 18-49.

VD is drawing about 500k fewer viewers but Reign drew over 1m less for it’s premiere than Beast. Reign looks much more expensive. Just saying.

  • Tom

    @ BBFan

    “Just saying.”

Just saying what? Here’s a more relevant set of numbers:

    BATB Season 1, Episode 18 0.6/1.59MM
    BATB Season 1, Episode 19 0.5/1.24MM

Question: What happened during the week between episodes 19 and 20 that caused BATB to lose 22% of its 18 – 49 audience? I’m just asking because after episode 18, BATB was never got higher than a 0.5/1.29 MM last season and immediately fell to a 0.3 rating this season.

  • BBFan

Reign is more likely to be canceled than Beast right now. I think the most relevant set of #’s for Beast are Nikita’s 2nd season. I have to look them up. But it stands to reason that the parties that kept Nikita going as long as it did probably have a similar interest in Beast.

  • BEAUTY AND THE BEAST FAN 1

EVERYBODY PLEASE MAKE SURE TO WATCH BEAUTY AND THE BEAST MONDAY AT 9 ON THE CW!! WE NEED HIGH RATINGS!!

  • James

We need to be patient with all shows right now. Reign could grow or even stay stable and Tomorrow People could fall the entire season like BaTB did. I dont watch either show, but what I’m saying is that it is to early to say Reign will be cancelled and Tomorrow People will be renewed, which is why I respect Bill being hesitant to move shows to certain.

  • Jon

    @BBFan
The difference is Nikita had 0.6 in its 2nd season at this time on fridays and BatB only has 0.3 in its 2nd season on a monday. Believe me if the ratings don’t rise BatB is toast.

  • Brandy

@Batab,mno BaTB and CD are the most Likley to be cancelled.Reign premiered ok, not great but only a tenth lower than TO & TTP and none of cws new shows premierd great( 1.0 or better)Reign premiered to a 0.8& BaTB premiered to a 0.3& below a million viewers. Nikita was kept for syndication and BatB is still two full seasons away from that.Oh !Nikitas second seasons ratings were 0.5-0.6 most off the season until spring(so BaTB is doing worse than Nikita was in its second season)& in spring hit seven 0.4, wasn’t til season three Nikita hit 0.2-0.3.Plus Nikita’s is airing on fri a tough night whereas BaTB has a nice slot.Reign was given a to of promotion,a rerun of the pilot & the best leadin , so they won’t cancel it easy cause clearly they have faith in it & want it to do wel.Why compare a show in second airing on fri witha show on Mon?Especially since ratings on the CW as a whole gone down the last two seasons since Nikita’s second season so the ratings averages would be different.

Arrow is the only sure winner for the CW at the moment.

TVD, despite a strong social media following, is going downhill with increasingly corny writing that’s taking the focus away from the character drama and placing it on boringly redundant mythology. It needs an overhaul to keep its edge.

Supernatural went full out cheesy more than a few seasons ago, but still maintains a very loyal fanbase, and has its shining moments. Nevertheless, it shows its age and it’s not getting better. It’s the oldest serial right now on the CW, and I think they’ll keep it going based on the ratings and the fact they don’t have much that’s better.

As for the newbies, Tomorrow People may have gotten off to a good start rating-wise but I think it’s going to have a tough time differentiating itself from pretty every other recent sci-fi show about mutants with special abilities being hunted by the government. The CW’s brand of shiny young faces will not be enough to save it, unless it can show it has more substance than that.

As for Reign, I seriously have my doubts that the CW will be able to pull off a believable period drama. I saw the first episode and was waiting for Mary to pull out her cell phone and start texting, “OMG your bf just tried to rape me.”

The Originals seems interesting, it’s got a cast with proven chemistry from TVD, but in finding its own identity, it also has to overcome the story baggage that TVD gave it. I think it needs to be retooled with a new premise.

So BATB probably deserves its low ratings due to its abysmal first season, but on the other hand, I do think that it has been improving, and it’s really not that much worse than the other CW shows. It’s numbers are lower because those other older shows had much stronger starts to build up a following.

“The Cancellation Bear correctly predicted it would be renewed last season…”

I guess so, when it considers it among its predictions of cancellation. LOL.

  • Brandy

@BB my last post was to you.As of today,BatB is the lowest rated cw show(though Nikita & CD will be at the bottom with it).

  • Lilu

Oh please nooo!!! I love BATB!!! :(…:::: I want more seasons!!!

  • fran dixon

OMG are you kidding me the season just started and already talking about cancellation give them a fighting chance this is a good show and no other show on any station has the chemistry that Jay and Kristen have their romance is so truly believable and makes you feel so good. Yes it is a fantasy but in the world today we all need some. It has a good storyline give it a chance to grow its like the CW does not want their shows to last because really putting it on Monday at 9 was so stupid!! This is the only show that I get excited to rush home from work to see I even stopped watching Dancing with Stars and Voice both of which I like but I love Beauty and the Beast no other show on like it. Too many of the same type of Cop shows, NCIS Criminal Minds, CSI time for new shows to be allowed to compete. This show is a good solid show with a story to tell and deserves a chance to to that you decided to make all the new director and writer changes so please give them a fair shot to deliver. When Vincent starts to really remember his relationship with CAT and they start to work together even more that’s when you will see a show. So, please stop with the gloom and doom and let move them to different day and time slot so they have a chance it is not fair to Jay Ryan and Kristin who are really good actors. Thank you for listening I hope you really don’t make a mistake.
