With Addition of +4.05 Million Viewers, "Elementary" Improves Its Live + Same Day Advantage Over "Scandal" From +50,000 to +1.10 Million Viewers


ELEMENTARY posted its second-best live + 3-day viewer lift (behind its season premiere) and matched its series-best adult 18-49 and adult 25-54 lifts, according to Nielsen ratings for Thursday, Oct. 10.


ELEMENTARY added + 4.05m viewers (13.11m from 9.06m, +45%), +1.6 rating points in adults 25-54 (4.3 from 2.7, +59%) and +1.3 in adults 18-49 (3.2 from 1.9, +68%).   ELEMENTARY improved its live + same day advantage over "Scandal" from +50,000 to +1.10 million viewers.

    It doesn’t necessarily mean nothing. They use 3-day ratings to determine buy rates, but only if people don’t skip the commercials, so if somebody is watching on DVR but not fast forwarding, they’ll count.

    Yeah, we don’t see the C3 numbers, so this is promising for those. It also shows CBS there’s an audience–they just have to work on promoting it against Scandal’s buzz.

    Even with L+3, elementary topped Scandal’s live episode by only 1 tenth in the 18-49 demo. LOL.

    @Epidrone is on the money. Clearly Elementary has a large following. The downside is that Scandal is a “in-the-moment” show aka a soap vs Ele, a procedural – no urgency to watch episode. On the upside, Scandal episodes have very little value beyond original airing; procedurals have a very long shelf-life. As CBS is making decision, this plays a factor for its syndication potential, which is where it’s at. There is minimal value for the ABC serials as we saw with DH, GA, etc.

    I know DVR has nothing to do with renewals but I think it should only because things can happen in people’s live or people have to much on TV that you cannot watch everything at once. Also Netflix, Hulu, Amazon TV are killing TV because all you have to do is wait like a day or two and poof it is there. I think in the time slots that are so competitive it ruins a shows chance for renewal. With all these updates you see so many shows just do great and you see people really do watch TV. That is just me.

    I was told onetime,and this of course only applies to the Nielsen viewers, that people are given instructions that if they fast forward thru the commercial it could hurt the ratings of the show.

    Now since I’m not a Nielsen viewer, If I had a dvr, you better believe I’d be fast forwarding thru the commercials.

    Anyway good for Elementary, but I wish they would release the same info for some of the other dramas. But I guess their numbers aren’t as impressive.

    Cheer for Joan and Sherlock! This may mean nothing for its renewal, still, it means Elementary has a pretty large audience. CBS should really look at these numbers. As long as the writers create great stories, Elementary will remain as one of the most watchable show on TV.
