The Cancellation Bear would like to thank NBC for not making any announcements about Ironside in the past week. That gave him time to put the show in this week's headline.

Now, if they can hold off any announcements about Sean Saves The World for another week, the bear will be even more thankful.

The bear's moved The Michael J Fox Show down to a "toss up", as was Parks & Recreation. They might stay that way until the bear sees the other sitcoms still to come this season for NBC.

The bear's biding his time making a call on Revolution, at current relative ratings levels it could go either way, particularly considering the relative success of NBC dramas vs. their total sitcom failure. Bubble Watch likes to make calls early (and has only one headline to create each week). The cancellation bear knows that this prediction race is a marathon, not a sprint, and he's got 30 more weeks (and 150 headlines, god help the bear) to go!

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014

  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

My husband and myself, both in our 60′s, have been pretty disgusted with watching any of the comedy shows on any of the networks. The subject matter and writing of these sitcoms are disgusting and not even funny. Even the more seasoned actors, such as Michael J. Fox, can make these shows watchable. I think TV Networks, in general, need to look at what the people want or your advertiser will be leaving you because people with the money to spend (not the kids) are turning OFF their sets!

  • maemae

my cable bill is almost $100 a month, I know that is not relative to you, but now you want us to pay for reruns of shows…how OBTUSE, to use a word from Shawshank ….tks but no thanks…

  • perry clouse

i have a dvr and i just watched the first episode of ironside and i enjoyed it i wish the network wouldn’t cancel it it is actually quite good

  • Dean

I guess Ironsides wasn’t dumb enough … I cannot believe the absolute drivel that stays on TV, season after season, and yet a show like Ironsides doesn’t make it.
I suppose it would have worked better if they had all been sitting in squad cars, eating donuts, cracking stupid jokes and talking like ignorant idiots.

  • Dean

My DH didn’t want to watch Ironsides because he liked the original. I told him to try forgetting the name was Ironsides, and watch it as a new show. He surprised himself, by liking the show.
NBC needs to give it a few more weeks to let others find out that it IS good.

  • Suzanne Mooney

We really enjoy Ironside and can’t believe that this show would be cancelled, its a great show. Blair is awesome ! Unbelievable and to say that Parenthood is borderline is ridiculous ! Now Michael J Fox is a good guy but his new show itn’t good at all ! I can’t believe that you are filling the tv full of shows about Vampires, Witches and Reality shows. Is this what it’s coming too. The networks are strictly catering to the young and the hell with the rest of us , we are still the ones paying the bills so think about that !

  • wyatt

These “networks” never listen to the real viewers anyway.
Last time a show was cancelled despite public outcry was “Star Trek Enterprise”. And I liked that show!
Used to be one of those Neilsen households. I watched many if not all of the shows that were canned. I cancelled my participation in Neilsen because I BELIEVED THEIR POLLS WERE BULLSH*T.

  • April

Please don’t ax Revolution!! Love it!

  • Susan

I would much rather see Ironside stay on rather than Revolution.. that show is so off wack…. I also love Sean saves the world and Michael J Fox show is hilarious. Maybe the network should try putting the shows on different nights.

  • Kat

Just renew Hannibal; it’s all we really want to see any way; besides Grimm. There is nothing else on primetime TV; except for shows that are for the brain dead working class 9-5 and so dead tired they will laugh at anything. These shows that nbc cbs and abc are putting out really suck. The writing and the acting. Especially the comedies! But if they don’t renew Hannibal they might as well hang it UP. And you still OWE US episode No2 that you yanked. Grimm is good but I’d like to see better FX from the makeup artists. I’ve seen several epi’s with blood too bright; things just off; lighting off. Come on NBC you can do better than the caca you are putting out there. Robin Williams? Come ON! It didn’t even make me laugh. Which goes to show that RW must be just like that in real life all the time. Can you show us some depth; can you show us some great writing and some great graphics and FX? If NOT; then stand aside and let Netflix Hulu and Cable have at it. Maybe you can just show infomercials since commercials are really all you are interested in showing…money money money. It doesn’t make NBC go round; just down. Soon you will hv to find a new way to advertise. Taking away our ability to Fast Fwd will only eventually make you see; that we are not buying. Not the same way. Not from commercials you air. We are sick to death of the commercials. Find another way. Set the bar higher. Who dropped the ball at NBC any way and why is Matt L still in your employee? Do you really expect us to watch him after what he did to Ann? Not happening. We are so over Matt. If only he could get over himself.

  • Jake

Blair Underwood – LAX, The Event, Ironside —-> Take the money and run like hell.

  • Jane

Favorite and.not.so.popular shows will.disappeared and.die. It’s just the way the way that TV HAS ALWAYS BEEN. Peace Be Unto. You All and God Bless! Jane

  • Rich C

Number One- Ironside-Just could not give the show a chance ? I have heard that there some viewers out there that do not like the concept of the Wheel-Chair !!! Raymomd Burr (sorry for spelling) played the Lawyer for years Perhaps this is a different generation? Number Two Michael J Fox (Perhaps or if)/ Off the air, In my opinion_ Gives Views a perspective of Parkinsons Disease They Do Not want To SEE !!However it gives hope to those that haves been inflicted see that they can function as a productive part of society – Perhaps the Target Audience is to Small And the Advertisers Wont anti -UP?

  • Tim

I believe MJF is in a better than toss up because it is still the fourth highest average right now and is only just below 1 for the index. On another note: do you think they may move the show to a different night so it does not have to face off with the giant that is Robin Williams.

  • chas

Our family stopped watching NBC, in 2008. Many people have done the same as us.

  • Toni

Ironside was a good show and different! They didn’t even give it a chance to gain viewers

  • Paul

Ironside was just a bad show, old story with poor acting. Welcome to the family was fair.NBC has better shows to see.

  • Jonathan

I gave this show a chance too, but couldn’t get past about an episode and a half. It played like a tribute to the handicapped, which isn’t necessarily terrible. However, if you are going to reboot a series you have to play homage to elements of the original, even if you are going to change the race of the lead. Throwing out the Quincy Jones theme song, San Francisco, Chief of Police, and forgetting all of the race and war/political issues of the 60′s (which haven’t changed all that much), all while having the lead be a wheelchair bound action hero, were simply bad ideas. The only thing retro was the name. Bad ideas.

  • Idalillian

I can’t believe it Ironside cancelled,I thought that the show was entertaining and Blair makes a believable detective in a wheelchair,I wish NBC will reconsider their decision and cancel some of the garbage that they have.put the show in a different time slot but just don’t cancel it after so many people are starting to watch it and enjoy what they’re watching.
I think they should rethink this action, think about the viewers instead of the their stupid ratings.

  • Juanita

I love Ironside. I remember Raymond (perry mason) and this current rendition is representative of what spinal cord survivors deal with and are able to overcome! Boo to u NBC!
