The Cancellation Bear would like to thank NBC for not making any announcements about Ironside in the past week. That gave him time to put the show in this week's headline.

Now, if they can hold off any announcements about Sean Saves The World for another week, the bear will be even more thankful.

The bear's moved The Michael J Fox Show down to a "toss up", as was Parks & Recreation. They might stay that way until the bear sees the other sitcoms still to come this season for NBC.

The bear's biding his time making a call on Revolution, at current relative ratings levels it could go either way, particularly considering the relative success of NBC dramas vs. their total sitcom failure. Bubble Watch likes to make calls early (and has only one headline to create each week). The cancellation bear knows that this prediction race is a marathon, not a sprint, and he's got 30 more weeks (and 150 headlines, god help the bear) to go!

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2014
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I like Ironside as well. It was a break from the gruesome you see on Criminal Minds (which I use to love). Don’t cancel, have him go to physical therapy for a while and have him walk again. If that’s the only issue, keep the show.

  • Rico

I can not believe they are cancelling Ironside, I love that show, the cast is great and the writing is superb. It’s too much BS on TV nowadays, that show had some substance.

  • THE Cancellation Bear!

I predict Ironside and WTTF will be cancelled! RRROOOAARRR!!!

Mini-rant: Am I the only one annoyed with all the people making Fall 2014 schedules only 4 weeks into the season? I mean, for all we know, some shows will bomb, and some haven’t even premiered. I have nothing against discussing what will be cancelled, but if you want to make a schedule, could you please wait until at least January or February?

  • NE1

the Michael J Fox show isn’t going to be cancelled unless NBC cancels their network. they don’t have any other comedies. i’m not counting Parks and Rec.

  • Ultima

    @NE1
the Michael J Fox show isn’t going to be cancelled unless NBC cancels their network.

    Delusional optimism at its finest.

they don’t have any other comedies.

No arguments here, they should cancel all of them.

The lack of alternatives doesn’t magically make The Michael J Fox show profitable.

It’s not like they will use the additional information to make their schedules less ridiculous! ;)

I wonder if NBC could have run Thursday editions of Saturday Night Live this fall to discuss the elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City. Then, they could have saved “Welcome to the Family” for the spring.

  • Pete

    @ Eric Mclnnis

I get it but i don’t really care. its kinda fun!!

    @ James
Logical Schedule but do you really think they will move all their comedies against ABC’s??? Plus, I don’t think NBC will renew Parenthood AND Revolution. Probably 1 of them.

  • Pete

    @ Pat

I doubt NBC will get rid of Thursdays at 10???

  • CBSviewer

I think Parenthood is safe. It’s NBC’s highest rated Show on Thursday.

  • Dean-W

    @ James

It’s a shame that NBC has decided to cancel Ironside. I was wondering if he producers and writers of Ironside can find another network to put up the series like: FX, STARZ, Showtime, TNT, or AMC.
FX, STARZ, Showtime, TNT, or AMC would be great networks with great timeslots to show Ironside.

  • Peggy

I loved Ironsides!! It was well written and I loved Blair Underwood! Best work I’ve ever seen him do! All other actors were great too. This sucks, all the good shows that come on get cancelled, and the crap, fluff is left. Bad decision

  • Barbara Ward

That was a good series. Blair Underwood was perfect. I don’t understand why they would cancel!
