Brooklyn Nine-Nine

via press release:

Next All-New Episode Airs Tuesday, October 22, on FOX

FOX has picked up nine additional episodes of the arresting new comedy BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, bringing the series to a 22-episode order, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. BROOKLYN NINE-NINE will join NEW GIRL in a special one-hour comedy event, airing immediately following the Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014.

“It’s exciting to see that both critics and fans love BROOKLYN NINE-NINE as much as we do,” said Reilly. “With Andy and Andre out in front of this incredible ensemble, it feels like this show is going to be around for a long time.”

With its same-day viewing, DVR and VOD playback, and its streaming on www.Fox.com and www.Hulu.com, the series premiere of BROOKLYN NINE-NINE has drawn a total audience of more than 14.6 million. Through five telecasts, the comedy is averaging a 2.1/6 among Adults 18-49 with 4.9 million total viewers, according to Nielsen's most current data. BROOKLYN NINE-NINE also has the third-highest concentration of upscale viewers ($100k+ HH) of any new series so far this season and has boosted the network's averages among key male demos by +38% to +45%.

In “Halloween,” next week’s all-new episode of BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, airing Tuesday, Oct. 22 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, it’s Halloween night, a busy time of the year for any police precinct. Amy (Melissa Fumero) detests the holiday, and is not thrilled when she has to don a costume to go undercover on street patrol with Charles (Joe Lo Truglio). Back at the precinct, Jake (Andy Samberg) bets Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) that he can steal his Medal of Valor before midnight, which results in him bringing out some costumes of his own.

Created and written by Dan Goor (“Parks and Recreation”) and Michael Schur (“Parks and Recreation,” “The Office”) BROOKLYN NINE-NINE stars Andy Samberg as a talented, but carefree, detective and Andre Braugher as the new precinct captain with a lot to prove.

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE is produced by Universal Television, 3 Arts Entertainment and Fremulon. The series is created and written by Dan Goor (“Parks and Recreation,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”) and Michael Schur (“Parks and Recreation,” “The Office”). The series is executive-produced by Goor, Schur and David Miner (“30 Rock”). The pilot was directed by the team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (“21 Jump Street,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”). “Like” BROOKLYN NINE-NINE on Facebook at Facebook.com/BrooklynNineNine. They might want a multi-cam, but those don’t seem to be working for them, also I doubt they’ll stick Dads among the animated shows, it’ll stick out like a sore thumb.

“I know. I really want it to succeed. It’s my favorite comedy. I still don’t understand why they’re giving it to NG. It already had a strong pilot sampling (10Mill?) and it dropped, just like the quality (the quality has really dropped since season one.) I know people are put off by Mindy (God knows why) but it’s funnier.”

new girl has gotten a lot less entertaining, i completely agree. whereas mindy continues to get better and better. I really wish people wouldn’t write it off they way they have because its so clever… and It would be a shame if fox cancelled a comedy and an indian, female lead, only to make shows like “dads”… but i think the network really likes the show, hopefully ratings at least keep steady this season i don’t want to see it gone too soon

Personally, I like Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The show does need to find it’s ground though. I thought the first season of Parks was not great, but settled nicely and now one of my favorite comedies. Same with the office. I can see that happening here too. I love Andy Samberg but he seems a touch out of place.

Either way, extremely happy. Love the show and can’t wait to see it grow.

It shows how little FOX has to offer if NG & BNN are getting post-SB. Yikes!

@Glue – Dads didn’t get any kind of pickup. It got a script order.

“She was hands down the worst person on The Office.”

I agree with this, but Mindy’s personality on this show is nothing like Kelly Kapoor from the Office.

  • Kenny

I really think they should’ve kept Almost Human for midseason and premiere it after the Super Bowl. The main plot of the tv show seems perfect for it but it would require an amazing pilot and also amazing subsequent episode.

  • Sam

Hum… ok, so I guess Fox is guetting use to the culture of bad ratings… CW style.

Why aim for a 8.2 like AMC when you can get 1.5!!!

  • SJ

I like the show, but the New Girl/B99 combo post-Superbowl is sure to garner some of the lowest post-SB ratings in recent history…

  • Angie

Ok can someone explain to me why B99 gets a full season order and Sleepy Hollow could not? They couldn’t find room for Sleepy Hollow in the Spring but they could for B99. I thought they were going for Cable style airings. Maybe if fox tried harder they could have found Sleepy Hollow a spot in the Spring.

  • Networkman

I wish Brooklyn Nine-Nine would air first after the SuperBowl followed by New Girl. I just feel B99 would be more compatible with the football fans. It will introduce them to this new show. And then B99 would be needed at 8pm to lead off Tuesday Night. It really should air first. New Girl and Zooey has been on for 2 1/2 years. People know of it and simply is losing interest.

This is my favorite new show but I’m not sure that it can be saved, it’s definitely not a show for everyone.
I hope it does survive for at least a few seasons but I wouldn’t bet on it.

The problem with calling your show “The Mindy Project” is it implies the show is all about Mindy. I actually think Chris Messina, Ike Barinholtz, Zoe Jarmon, and Ed Weeks have been good enough to make it an ensemble cast. Mindy Kaling is great when paired with the right actors, but it’s her writing that’s really exceptional. The recurring appearances by Mark Duplass are great. Anders Holm and Glenn Howerton are great as Mindy’s love interests.

Sitcoms are cheaper to make and easier to slot in after something else is cancelled and also easier to syndicate. They usually get a bit more leeway than dramas (especially effects heavy ones) in the cancel/renew game.

  • Seth

Well deserved. Best freshman comedy so far this season.

  • Nancy

I really can’t stand Andy Samberg so that’s really what keeps me from watching this show I’ll stick with New Girl and Mindy.

  • gomer

Should have put American Idol for one last time. This is their last chance before the show becomes too expensive to keep on relative to the ratings. They need to goose the ratings. New Girls and B99 really haven’t done enough to deserve this slot.

  • Michael

Great news. Best new American comedy in years.

  • Whoa

    Wow… it’s a Mindy Truther overload today!

I guess her remaining fans/employees are nervous that Fox is showing the love to NG and B99. But fear not, Mindy Truthers: Fox does have something special in store for her.

Namely, plenty of free time after May 2014.

  • Samuel

I actually believe they should have put Sleepy Hollow or New Girl + The Mindy Project in the slot.

New Girl has already garnered a steady audience and Mindy should be locked for renewal regardless but Sleepy Hollow might need a bit of a boost later in the season.
