Updated Live+7 DVR Ratings: 'The Big Bang Theory' Tops Adults 18-49 Ratings Increase, 'New Girl' Earns Biggest Percentage Increase + 'The Blacklist' Tops Viewership Gains in Week 2

Our source for Live+7 DVR ratings includes only original, regular programs, excluding repeats (which are unlikely to be heavily DVR viewed). Do the Live+7 ratings tell us anything about a show's renewal prospects we didn't already know from the Live+Same Day ratings?  No.  Click here to learn more.

During the second week  of the 2013-2014 season (September 30 - October 6), The Big Bang Theory topped the rankings for the week's DVR viewing adults 18-49 ratings added between the Live+Same Day period (as reported in all our other ratings posts) and the Live + 7 Day measurement periods gaining 2.4 adults 18-49 ratings points.

New Girl topped the % adults 18-49 ratings increase from DVR viewing, adding 89% to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings.

The Blacklist led total Viewership gains, adding 6.504 million viewers via DVR between Live + Same Day and Live + 7 Day ratings.

The 18-49 Demo % Increase From DVR Viewing ranks which of the top broadcast shows [by Live+7 18-49 ratings] had the largest percentage adults 18-49 ratings increase in viewing by DVR in their adults 18-49 Live+7 audience numbers from viewers watching shows after the airdate on their digital video recorders (DVRs).

Definitions:

DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data LiveLive+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.

Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.

Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate

Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

    Sometimes…. The same holds true when I watch live… Normally when an ad comes I switched to another channel to see what is going on with another show I might be DVRing…

    If we don’t watch the adds, the greater fools are the advertisers if they pay, any up for the DVR demo.

    Even though we almost never see the numbers, Nielsen does track how many people watch the commercials. Those are the ratings that are actually used for determining ad rates (specifically, the C+3 numbers).

    There will be no commercials during the PLL Halloween Special and Ravenswood on Tuesday. What does it mean for the ratings?

    @Nathan Guess what? Networks don’t really care as much about live + 7 day data, as they make money of ads, and typically when someone DVR’s something, they fast forward through all the ads. These numbers really don’t matter much in the renewal/cancelation process. Therefore your comment about Revenge being a flop is irrelevant. Live numbers matter most, and given Revenge’s timeslot & its competition, it does fine. ABC is smart enough to realize this and they will most likely renew Revenge and Scandal both. So this hating on Revenge for no reason is pathetic and very childish. Grow up and find a job, hobby, or something better to do with your life instead of constantly starting these Revenge vs. Scandal fights.

    Parenthood has great DVR viewing. I think some people need to rethink their views on its renewal/cancellation.

    the most revenge has ever gained in dvr was 1.2 so it has the same gains percentages as its first 2 seasons but just with lower ratings

    See Hostages is being watched.. just not Mondays at 10.. lol. Its a good show, im glad theyve kept it around so far. Im looking forward to this weeks episode too… it looks good. Also Parenthood doubled in the L+7 ratings, again people are still watching they just arent watching Thursday at 10. Thats a wonderful show i hope it gets trated right.

    there hasn’t been any good news at all about revenge ratings so far this season everytime i check the ratings there’s always bad news about its ratings. it’s always adjusted down even its dvr ratings suck now. i hope that people give this show a chance because everyone pretty much gave up on this show pretty quickly. IMO its already lost 2 million viewers and were only the fourth episode, hopefully some of those lost viewers will come back tonight to tune in.

    One, you do realize people that some people watch shows on Hulu and the network’s websites instead of DVR. Or apps like the Watch ABC app. Those aren’t important to networks. Live ratings matter most, and Revenge is safe for now. Revenge is not a flop and not doing horribly like Betrayal, Lucky 7, and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland are. I don’t see Killer Women, Resurrection, or whatever the third midseason drama doing any better than Revenge.

    @Aciel thats my point. If the competition Revenge faces was hurting it so much its DVR numbers would be higher. Obviously people are just bored with Revenge thats why people are tuning out.

    FYI. There is no longer a Scandal vs Revenge war. Since Revenges ratings have nose dived, Revenge fans now pit Scandal against other shows.

    Wow once upon a time grew in its second episode it had I believe a 3.3 ? On its first episode with DVR added. And now a 3.8 for its second with DVR wow !!! People like what they saw ! Yay !!!
