The average viewership increase From DVR Viewing ranks which of the top broadcast shows [by Live+7 viewers] had the largest absolute increase in average viewership by DVR between the Live + Same Day and Live + 7 day ratings measurements.

To see the previous most DVR'd TV Shows lists click here.

Definitions:

DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data LiveLive+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.

Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.

Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate

Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

Do the Live+7 ratings tell us anything about a show's renewal prospects we didn't already know from the Live+Same Day ratings?  No.  Click here to learn more.

    CHICAGO FIRE DOING GREAT!!!!!
    I’M SO PROUD!

  • Michelle

CBS has 12 of the top 25 increases in viewers, but not in demo increases. Does this mean the old people have learned how to use a DVR to record the CBS shows and then watch the other shows live? ;-)

  • jami

too bad the revolution NBC should really try to give it some more promotion

  • jami

the show is really improved this year oh well I hope they give it an ending

  • AllOfHerTw!st

The Blacklist, Elementary, and Sleepy Hollow are in the top-10 of all 3 lists.

  • Debra

If you are a Nielsen viewer and you watch a show that is on VOD within a certain amount of time, does it count towards the dvr ratings.

  • abcfan

Is there a website where they put VOD and Hulu viewers or are they included in DVR?

  • Michael1

Does the fact that “The Millers”, the #9 show in live viewing, is nowhere to be found on this list suggest that it may be the beneficiary of a strong lead-in?

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“Is there a website where they put VOD and Hulu viewers”

VOD numbers don’t get to the press on a regular basis like ratings do, but some networks have released some numbers for their shows in press releases. Like this one for Fox which lumps VOD in with streaming http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/10/21/30-day-multi-platform-viewing-lifts-sleepy-hollow-premiere-108-over-live-same-day-viewership/210486/

I don’t think Hulu has ever released any show by show numbers (but my memory is suspect).

“or are they included in DVR?”

“If you are a Nielsen viewer and you watch a show that is on VOD within a certain amount of time, does it count towards the dvr ratings.”

VOD viewing that contains the same ads as the national broadcast feed (which is increasingly common) is included in all ratings measurements (not just Live+7). And it’s the commercial viewing within 3 days that matters to the network’s revenues.

  • Debra

“And it’s the commercial viewing within 3 days that matters to the networks revenue”

I figured that was the reason why the networks have it fixed so you can’t fast forward the commercial.
I use to be able to do it with CBS, but not anymore.

    Glee :D \o/

  • BBFan

As there are far more local metered homes than their are fast national homes I assume it is the local broadcast that determines the L, L3, & L7 designations. I have checked with a friend in NYC & he says his TIVO is showing the CW shows on Sun as being New.

  • NCIS

Was NCIS down vs the AoS premiere? If so, it looks like those viewers have gone back to thier favorite show. At this point short of a major Marvel char appearance there’s probably nothing AoS can do to draw them back. At least it’s over +50% in delayed viewing. Those NCISers haven’t abandoned it completely.

  • BBFan

The networks have been pushing Nielsen & the advertisers to go to C7 but I don’t think that can happen until at least 50% of homes have DVRs. So really these #’s represent future potential growth in ratings & not much more. The large the % growth in L7 the more likely the show will see some growth in L3.
