Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

They should have never cancelled Body of Proof

Please explain how shows currently failing on ABC magically makes Body of Proof profitable.

That is one of the worst schedules I’ve ever seen. Is there a joke I’m missing somewhere, because you can’t be serious with garbage like this.

  • Hallyo

i think people have forgotten the most important thing: Revenge is at 9PM on Sunday Night-“the creepy timeslot”

  • utral

Excuse me!! Dose Nashville have against TWD??? Is it on Sunday Night?? at 9 PM?? yeah, i don’t think so!!

  • Paul

    @Dom
“Sports suck. Keep that S#it on ESPN.”

I’m with you on that one. I’m so sick of football games delaying the Amazing Race on Sundays or any sport delaying any show on network TV. Put it all on cable dammit!

  • queeueeq

Why do people keep on adding The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife onn their schedules? They’re the first ABF comedies to be canceled this year imo.

  • Ultima

You do realize that while there are cable networks dedicated to sports (e.g. ESPN), there are also cable networks dedicated to other genres of programming, right? For instance, Turner has a comedy network (TBS), drama network (TNT), reality network (TruTV) and a news network (CNN).

You could make the same argument that you are making for taking sports off of the broadcast networks for any other type of programming.

The major broadcast networks have always offered a variety of programming. If you are only interested in certain things, THAT’S WHAT CABLE IS FOR!

Why do people keep on adding The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife onn their schedules?

Lack of ratings knowledge; lack of scheduling knowledge; lack of critical thinking skills; lack of intelligence.

Pick as many as you like! ;)

  • diana

@ Sheppard I.think that your forgetting that revenge is going to be scheduled differently ABC will air 12 eps in a row.and then take a 3 month hiatus so this should help revenge not go.below a 1.0 it will be as if it’s starting a new season it didn’t loose any viewers from the last episode which is a good sign that maybe revenge will stabilize somewhere between a 1.5 to 1.8 and has a chance to come back to getting a 2.1 and then again stabilizing in the high 1s. That’s last season it was against award shows now it will be on hiatus when award shows come.

  • Ultima

    @diana
ABC will air 12 eps in a row.and then take a 3 month hiatus

Just want to point out that after airing eight episodes in the fall, Revenge will be preempted for two weeks.

However, they can still fit 22 episodes in with the hiatus as long as there are no spring preemptions and they have two-hour finales in both December and May.

  • David Howell

Can the syndication gods actually save a serialised show like Revenge?

I would have guessed that for those shows the syndication value would be expected to be in streaming, and a planned series finale is worth more than getting to 88 for that. But if the old model is how networks think, then that’s what matters for renewal!

Of course, the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Nikita showed that by getting season 4, but as a short final season that didn’t get it to 88.

  • no Name

Well, Revenge is good for me =]]

  • Kylie

Well if you make an episode around Neal then yeah you’re gonna get series low ratings. He doesn’t sell, he’s boring.

  • Steve A

@Sheppard. So telling the truth is trolling? If that helps you sleep at night. If season four was a guarantee after a third, then there wouldve been a two-season pick up. There wasn’t one therefore Revenge CAN be cancelled after this season. I didn’t say it would. And I actually think it can do better in a different time slot, as stated previously. So please don’t over use the word “troll” and dilute its meaning.

  • Steve A

    Oops. @Reprise not @Sheppard

  • Ray

ABC is trying something different with the scheduling, by putting Revenge on break until March. Normally, I’d think that’s a great idea to avoid award shows and the tough winter competition that ruined Revenge’s momentum last season (and ruined Desperate Housewives’ momentum seasons prior). But, anyone remember when the writer’s strike went on and Desperate Housewives was on break during those months and it returned significantly lower in March from where it was during its first part of season 4, which set the stage for its big declines from seasons 5-8.

  • Duarte

What do you think about this schedule to ABC

    Sundays
    8pm – The Bachelor
    10pm – Revenge

    Mondays
8pm – Dancing With the Stars
    10pm – NEW DRAMA

    Tuesdays
    8pm – Agents of SHIELD
    9pm – NEW DRAMA
    10pm – Castle

    Wednesdays
    8pm- The Middle
    8:30pm- NEW COMEDY
    9pm- Modern Family
    9:30pm- NEW COMEDY
    10pm- NEW DRAMA

    Thursdays
    8pm- Once Upon a Time
    9pm- Greys’ Anatomy
    10pm- Scandal

    Fridays
    8pm- Last Man Standing
    8:30pm- Suburgatory
    9pm- Shark Tank
10pm- Nashville (or new better show from 2013-2014 midseason)

  • Ray

Or was it April that it returned in? I can’t remember, either way this was the season 4 drop off during that break:
    Desperate Housewives

    Season 4, Episode 10 – 01/06/07 – 7.3 A18-49 – 19.782 million viewers
    Season 4, Episode 11 – 04/13/07 – 5.9 A18-49 – 16.346 million viewers

  • Revenger

TWD pretty much crushed revenge so ABC needs to start acting fast and change the timeslot. OUAT seems to be getting a slow painful death from football season. ABC do something! Is sunday going to be another thursday for ABC

  • Reprise

    @Steve A

Don’t pretend you know what you’re talking about when you clearly don’t. I’m going to stick with my original description of troll. No doubt when Revenge is renewed for a fourth season, you will be nowhere to be seen.

@If season four was a guarantee after a third, then there wouldve been a two-season pick up

    Networks don’t work like that.

@There wasn’t one therefore Revenge CAN be cancelled after this season

    Nope.
