Ratings for The Goldbergs keep falling. Last week it was ABC's second worst rated sitcom, ahead only of the doomed Trophy Wife, well under the ratings for Back In The Game, which had its ratings tick up a tenth to over 90% of ABC's weekly scripted ratings average. Because of that, the cancellation bear is making a double prediction move. The Goldbergs has moved down to a "toss up" for renewal and cancellation and Back In The Game has moved up to "likely to be renewed". Why the difference when The Goldbergs Index is higher? The Index is an average, when ratings change quickly it takes some time to "catch up".

Once Upon A Time In Wonderland's prediction has also been moved down, to "certain to be canceled". How long it stays on the schedule is anybody's guess, except the bear's, he doesn't bother with that.

Super Fun Night ratings keep dropping too. Were the one to anticipate future ratings he'd have downgraded it already. Since he doesn't, he'll wait and see the future ratings.

As always, early in the season, predictions change rapidly. Stay tuned.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2014
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

ABC would milk the heck outta OUATW if it were a hit. Trust me on this.
CBS’s UNDER THE DOME was also supposed to be limited to a short summer run. They will now air another summer season. Probably will be awful but that’s not the point.

The Goldbergs just justified its prediction today. :-( Guess, all would have to wait for the middle of November before it moves to likely cancellation? But if there’s any conciliation, Trophy Wife now looking wo worse than The Neighbors so hopefully, Super Fun Night and Back in the Game could follow. :-)

  • S10m15

@queeueeq. Are you a shill because you sure have a burr up your butt about The Goldbergs?

  • KJ Styles

I actually like Back In The Game. I think The Goldbergs is meh, a cheesy throwback that isn’t as funny as any of the better time period sitcoms of the past, and Trophy Wife is garbage. I can take or leave Super Fun Night.

Trophy Wife is dead for sure. The Goldbergs will not survive if it continues to drop. The only reason it premiered so well is because SHIELD premiered well. Now that the buzz from SHIELD is dying off, the Goldbergs is tanking.

Back In The Game has a chance given that it’s recent ratings are better than the two Tuesday sitcoms. I think Trophy Wife is gone no later than November sweeps and replaced by either Suburgatory or Mixology (hopefully Suburgatory, I love that show). One of Goldbergs or Back In The Game will either be cancelled or shortened to make way for whichever show doesn’t take Trophy Wife’s spot. Super Fun Night is likely to get a full season pickup if it remains the highest rated of ABC’s new sitcoms.

The Goldbergs should move to Wednesday after The Middle. As far as skipping time in the 80’s, people are thinking way too much in to. There are far more shows with crazy story lines, etc., than this to worry about.

  • Mary

Please ABC CANCEL BACK IN THE GAME NOW!! It’s is REALLY BAD. Maggie is great as Juliet on Psych can’t wait to see her back in that character for season 8 instead of her wasting her talent and time on this awful Terry character. As for James Caan… errr… no comment!

  • Jen

keep the Goldbergs. I love the show. It reminds me when I rushed home to watch MTV in the 80’s.

  • Rebecca

I agree with Mary. I gave BitG a shot but won’t watch any more.

I watched the first two episodes of Wonderland…found them okay (second episode better than the pilot IMO) but I just can’t get into it much, sorry. I’ll keep watching, especially if it winds up being just 13 episodes – but I think the red queen is too young/miscast. The Jafar/Genie integration into the storyline is interesting. The Knave of Hearts (Will) is fun, and he has more personality than Alice does. Anyway, I won’t watch it live because there are shows on two other networks I prefer if I even have time to watch anything live – but I can stream the show. I did send a comment to ABC through their website (link at the bottom of their home page) about scheduling, saying Wonderland should air with its sister show OUAT, drop or move BitG…move SFN to another night, and suggested The Goldbergs be paired with The Middle and Trophy Wife come on after Modern Family (they’d all fit well together). Didn’t mention Suburgatory to them since I ran out of characters in the comment box, lol, but it’s a show I don’t care about anyway. Others do, and ABC will find a place for it after it dumps the trash.

They are killing the Neighbors. It is a great show.

  • Anthony

OUAT in Wonderland will probably not get renewed. They are treating it as a show that was only meant to be 1 season like “In the Dome” on CBS. The problem with OUAT in Wonderland is its a terrible show.

The Goldbergs will most likely get renewed and move to Fridays next season just because they seem to really hype this show. Super Fun Night is a toss up, if it gets a small fan base like Happy Endings did then it will be safe if it doesn’t then it will be gone. Unfortunately Trophy Wife will be the first comedy to be axed…

  • Kenny

I agree with Sandy 245, I LOVE The Goldbergs but the timeline is way off, and i wish they were timeline correct instead of skipping around. I find the show funny and touching and the Mom is SO FUNNY and she`s the breakout star. Please ABC give this a real shot to succeed.

  • Dee

Please do not cancel The Goldbergs! My husband and I love the show so much. We recorded all of the new shows of this season (including Super Fun Night, We Are Men, Trophy Wife, Brooklyn 99) and the list went down very quickly to only The Goldbergs. I would be sad if they were cancelled…such a funny family oriented show.

  • Kristen

How is Super Fun Night a better rated sitcom than The Goldbergs? SMH.

  • FRED

I agree about your comment about the miscasting of the queen , but I do appreciate the good acting from almost everyone involved. I also enjoy the creative direction (murder scene focused through Jafar’s eye and the camera angles in certain scenes. I find the special effects are actually more impressive to me than the original. I don’t know why that is. For now I’m happy to watch 2 hours of pure fantasy , but really wish ABC would have aired them on the same night.

    And yes

ABC really has to find a suitable companion for the MIDDLE and MODERN. I used to enjoy BETTER WITH YOU, HAPPY ENDINGS and COUGAR TOWN on ABC. But they obviously weren’t the right fit. For now SFN is entertaining me, but I’m not sure for how long. Very limited concept. Not sure where ABC should put SFN. Can’t think of another slot at the moment. But Trophy Wife certainly deserves a shot after MF, for experimental purposes at least. And The GOLDBERGS after MIDDLE. Definitely a better companion than BITG.
ABC’s most serious troubles are Tuesday 9-11 (esp 10:00 slot), Thursday 8-9 and Sunday 9-11 (esp 10:00 slot). They need a few more strong dramas and know they want another sitcom night, but they are having a very difficult time with it.

Anyway I’m looking forward toward another satisfying OUAT and REVENGE on SUNDAY. Both shows have been airing above par eps of late.

I also enjoy NASHVILLE. Not quite as much this season, but its still entertaining to me. The music isn’t as exciting this season. Perhaps because Connie Britton hasn’t been singing. And some of the plots are more dull. However I am sticking with it. The potential for great drams is still there.

  • Rebecca

Well, after watching last night’s episode of Wonderland today, I understand why the red queen is so young (can’t stand her duck lips, though). Enjoyed that third episode more than the previous two. But hey, if the show doesn’t make it past this season maybe they could put Jafar up against Regina or Rump on OUAT, and Will could joke-argue with Captain Hook…would be fun. Cyrus and Alice could hang out with Snow and Charming. The only ABC dramas I watch are Castle, OUAT and now Wonderland. I’m more into the comedies, but at least those dramas have some comedic elements to them (otherwise I wouldn’t watch them). Comedies I watch are The Goldbergs, Trophy Wife, The Middle, Modern Family, SFN (but I enjoyed Happy Endings more), LMS, and The Neighbors. Ten ABC shows including AFHV. (Also 4 on CBS, 5 on Fox, and I’m down to 2 on NBC in prime time…so I guess ABC is now tops with me.)

  • Rebecca

I do miss Cougar Town, of those shows you mentioned, and HE was entertaining most of the time – but at least I can stream Cougar Town (it’s tough, on the site I use, but it’s doable) and own the discs later. It’s hard for me to remember what networks my old favorites aired on, but I think most of my old faves aired on NBC. Can’t believe I’m down to just two shows there now (Parks and Grimm).

  • Eskatun

If ABC would swap Back In the Game and The Goldbergs, the Goldbergs would receive the same positive that Back in the game is receiving from The Middle and Modern Family.

Wonderland is doomed as long as long as ABC insists on having it go up against The Big Bang Theory.

Perhaps if ABC were to move Wonderland to Monday nights as a Castle lead in or Move if to Wednesday where it could build some momentum. The only way that ABC can have a shot of over taking CBS is to force viewers to go up their big series with other big show ie Modern Family v. The Big Big Theory, DWTS v. Survivor v. The Voice.

  • Adrienne

In my opinion, The Goldberg’s is one of, if not the, best new comedy that I have watched all season and I have checked out most. It would be a shame if it got cancelled just because it is not working in it’s current time slot. Also, anyone who is too hooked on the fact that certain references to the 80’s are not accurate with the time frames, should get over it. Fictional TV is never always factual or accurate, duh? P.S. I am a huge fan of Nashville, pray it will not be cancelled…

  • WingsStef

If Once Upon a Time in Wonderland keeps doing terrible, they probably should shelf as a hiatus replacement for the mothership as it supposedly was originally planned. Isn’t the show supposed to be a limited run, anyway?

  • WingsStef

I like Back in the Game. It’s a fun show. I watched part of the Goldberg’s this week too. I didn’t hate it, but I did not like it either. Also I was curious, so I looked it up to confirmed it, and “Say Anything” came out in 1989. Yes that is the 80’s, but…
