Nikita final season #DIV/0!

The Originals ratings moved up in its second week in its permanent timeslot to tie Arrow as the CW's #2 show for the week. The cancellation bear is moving it to "certain to be renewed".

Reign premiered with no margin for decline last week. If it holds at or near its 0.8 premiere rating, it would be renewed, but if it suffers the typical post premiere declines it's "Off with their heads". The bear's going to wait until next week's ratings to move it off of "toss up".

The CW syndication gods will demand that Hart Of Dixie be renewed for a fourth season. Maybe it'll be a short one like Nikita's, or maybe not. The bear doesn't get into predicting episode orders. Crazy fans, and anti-fans, who'd like to predict in the comments are welcome to.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

@Dan – Agreed. I understand the ratings for 90210 weren’t great by any means but it was doing at the END of its 5th season what BATB is doing at the BEGINNING of its 2nd.

I don’t think they’ll move BATB to Fridays. Monday @ 9pm on The CW is pretty much a death slot at this point. I doubt they’ll want to sacrifice another show to that hour. They have a better shot at launching a new show on another night.

  • Dave

Mondays at 9 is not The CW’s death slot! The CW’s death slot is Tuesdays at 9!

Hart of Dixie was launched two years ago on Mondays at 9 despite a weaker lead in support from GOSSIP GIRL.

The CW hasn’t renewed a show on Tuesdays at 9pm since 90210 aired there back in 2009.
MELROSE PLACE was cancelled there in 2009, life unexpected was cancelled there in 2010, HELLCATS in 2011, RINGER in 2012 and Emily Owens MD in 2013.

The Winchester boys have showed that they’re the right ones for this cursed slot ;)

Too bad ABC can’t have them for their Thur 8pm death slot! :D

  • Timmy G

@Dave THANK YOU! This is why I’m going to keep up the argument for Supernatural to remain in that slot for the rest of its life…it’s death slot immune.

I actually think HOD should move to Mon at 9 (it’s original spot) come midseason and whichever is the stronger of the two (The 100 or Star Crossed) should be a self starter. The other can have the post TVD spot.

  • Dan W

I also think that HOD might benefit if it moved back to its’ original time slot…I mean, it couldn’t hurt right? I would say ship BATB off to Friday, debut a new show Monday’s at 8 and put HOD on at 9 because I don’t think it has ever really been lead in dependent. It will be interesting to see The Carrie Diaries numbers this Friday. Although I would imagine it will rate about the same as BABT (0.3 ish), if the online viewing/sales are more profitable (from what I understood, that is basically what saved it and gave it a 13 episode renewal), who knows. Maybe the CW will cut the episode order for BATB and give TCD some more episodes.

  • jake

I really feel like Reign will increase its ratings for the second episode because of the word of mouth and mostly favorable reviews from the audience, despite the innaccuracies of the costumes and the accent they use, it looks attractive and a lot of people like period themed shows so let’s hope for the best.

  • david

Finishing out the 22 order episodes for season 2 of Beauty and the Beast yah i am pretty sure they will show all the episodes that will be made. They lie to do that case in point Emily Owens last year and even more Cult burnoff during the middle of the summer. Will it get a third season that i am really not sure all of season 2 it has gotten a .3 so if it does i am pretty sure it will move to Fridays at some point. Then when they move it to Fridays they will put a show on Mondays that will hopefully improve that nights ratings. I think that will happen next season thow possibly. Mondays are the worst night for them now well, that and Fridays too. Come midseason i think they will give the One Hundred a good time slot so it will do well for them.

My gawd, what a faulty lineup. CW YUK!!!

  • allfrumthei

It does sound like an excuse but CW will literally have to see the entire 22 episode run out to know whether or not BATB is worth renewal. The 3 straight 0.3 indicate its a goner but I think being pre-empted 2 out of your first 3 weeks and not aired in major markets hurts what ti should or could get.
They’ll probably see how it does in the winter when Sleepy Hollow is done or no more pre-empts are done to see how it fairs. If it can rise up to a 0.5 then maybe it has a shot.

Problem is, I always feel your bulk audience that you retain coems from your debut and anyone who was curious didnt bother if it wasnt aired on a Monday.

Hopefully Krisitn Kreuk gets to be something better (Story of her career) As much hate as she gets online as an actress, I always felt she was charasmitic enough personally to be on a good sitcom and just be more natural rather than being saddled with angsty twilightish CW material for her whole career.

  • starship

She gets all the hate because of her terrible Smallville character, but she’s not that bad as an actress, otherwise, agreed. Anyway, I’ve read she wants to go into producing and doesn’t want to act anymore, so I won’t be too surprised if she leaves acting well alone after BATB gets cancelled.

  • allfrumthei

I would prefer to see her give acting a more determined go and be smart about what projects she goes for. I’ve sort of rooted for to get better projects and do better (Hasnt really happened aside from maybe an insignificant guest run on Chuck) so I would hate to think she is remembered just for Smallville and everything else was a justification of that when in other cases, young actors have gone on to re-develop themselves.

Anwyays, I think with BATB you really have to wait it out and see how it does for the rest of the year even with that’s a hell of 0.3’s it’ll endure. Its probably got more chances to go slighty up than down this year (After the Christmas break when Sleepy Hollow and MNF ends and assuming CW waits it out) so while it’ll probably cancelled its at least got the benefit of getting a full run to see how it goes.

It seems like CW shows get pre empted much more than other networks. In Chicago the Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs and White Sox all may be on the local affiliate. When this happens the show tends to be shown in prime time Saturday. How is this factored into ultimate ratings? I assume it also means more DVR. Just curious

  • Sammy

I really hope Beauty And The Beast Does GOOD, I really likes the show alot

  • John K.

@Dave, don’t forget L.A. Complex, which aired Tuesdays at 9pm also, and was cancelled.

  • Alan

    My predictions:

Picked up for a full season: The Originals, The Tomorrow People
    Not getting a back-order: Reign
Cancelled: Beauty and the Beast, The Carrie Diaries
Renewed: Everything else, but HoD gets a short final season.

  • ENTPgal

    Yay for TO!!! Joseph Morgan<3

I hope Reign grows or at least remains steady. I thought the premiere episode was quite good.

I'm really, really excited about the 100. The previews look amazing.

  • Melinda Halliwell

CW in my opinion is rocking I love my shows – Arrow – Vampire Diaries – The Originals – Supernatural – The Tomorrow People – Reign. I was so surprised to see that The Tomorrow People and Reign are not doing as good as my other shows because they are just as awesome as my other favorites which are doing real good. I find it so sad so many people are missing out on those two awesome shows The Tomorrow People and Reign they really are missing out.

  • Tom

“Hopefully Krisitn Kreuk gets to be something better….”

I can’t imagine how that might happen. Kreuk is at best an B List actress without any significant stage or movie credits. Her television credits largely revolve around Smallville and BATB making her little more than a CW network contract player. These mundane efforts have undoubtedly made her a lot of money, but it’s pretty clear that she’s been getting by on looks rather than on talent.

The main impression I have about Kristin Kreuk is that she has been utterly unable to convincingly portray a “tough cop” in BATB. That role was plainly miscast and Kreuk looks silly in it. Granted, much of the material written for BATB borders on being juvenile, but I’d still expect a talented actress to at least elevate it somewhat. If you want examples of actresses who can portray strong yet vulnerable women in law enforcement consider Stana Katic (“Castle”), Kristen Lehman (Motive”)and virtually every actress who has ever played a cop on the various Law & Order series. So, considering the availability of more credible actress, don’t expect to see Kristin Kreuk land any big roles once BATB goes off the air.

They are eventually factored into the ratings (after the show is aired in that market) but in the grand scheme of things they don’t mean much. The vast majority of weeks, shows are not preempted (preemption’s are spaced throughout the course of the year and over many different nights/shows including many nights that would normally be repeats). In addition most times when shows are preempted it doesn’t affect the ratings in a substantial way (note that two out of three weeks BATB has been preempted, yet has scored the same ratings each week, meaning that those two preemption’s resulted in less than a .05 ratings difference for the show), also it should be noted that those preemption’s occurred in New York and were for football (New York is a bigger market than Chicago, and the NFL generally scores bigger ratings than Basketball, Hockey or Baseball, likely making for a bigger ratings effect than you would see for any of the preemption’s you listed).
