I am in no way a huge fan of Revenge, I tune in occasionally to watch Madeline Stowe, because she’s a brilliant actress and definitely one of the best on broadcast television at the minute… however, it is pretty much common sense that football which has 20+ million watching and a 10.0 in the demographic is going to hurt ANY show it’s scheduled against.

Whether or not it’s a huge amount of viewers like some fans are claiming, who knows? But it’s definitely hurting it to some degree. Does anyone here really think if Scandal or Agents of Shield were scheduled on a Sunday, up against the football that they would continue to score the same demographic they have been getting in previous weeks? No.

Obviously there are other factors that are to blame for the decline of Revenge, one of the major ones being the quality of the show during the latter half of Season 2 and the storyline straying away from what the shows premise was originally about. I hear it has since picked up on the storyline again, and has gotten much better quality wise… but a show only in it’s third season doesn’t have that much leeway with its viewers. So while I agree with the fans of the show saying the Football is hurting Revenge, there are definitely other factors to blame. Not just the football.

@Shepherd the people who’ve stopped watching revenge, well i don’t think will come back.

@Ray even if season 3’s quality has improved million times, they still don’t stand a chance against TWD simply because its a monster. Why is it a monster, quite simply cause of the story/quality

  • Rodney

@Samuel I agree with you because football is no way to blame for Revenge or any other ABC show for that matter.

and don’t blame TWD as well

  • Ray

True, the problem with serialized shows is once they lose a lot of viewers, its hard to gain them back. But I don’t see Revenge getting canceled this season. I have a feeling ABC will announce a fourth and final season for it this May. I also don’t see its ratings dropping to a 1.2 like others have said. Someone said next week it’ll be at a 1.2. I have a feeling it will level off at this 1.5-1.8 for the next few weeks and remain at 6.0-6.8 million viewers, and maybe by the fall finale it will reach a 2.1 with 7.4 million viewers. As for the spring its hard to gauge as the hiatus during the writer’s strike hurt some shows (like DH). But hiatus’ have also helped shows before, so that we’ll have to wait and see.

  • Reprise

    @HalCapone
@This must be the pile on Revenge thread. I didn’t get the memo. Revenge is absolutely, positively fine in ratings and will 100% receive a renewal for next season

Well said that man. I find it funny we have 4 pages of the same people trying to convince themselves and others the show isn’t coming back ;)

  • Rodney

@Reprise I don’t hate revenge nor do i want it cancelled or rooting for it. Hey, it still has viewers. let those viewers be happy with their show.

At the same time don’t blame football or TWD for the show’s decline

  • Ray

I’m not fully blaming football & TWD for the show’s decline. But I do think it has an effect (those monster numbers — those husbands are probably telling their wives to watch Revenge online, DVR it, Hulu, the Watch ABC app, etc.). The decline can be blamed on the show’s writing in season two (especially in the middle of the season), ABC’s scheduling decisions last year, and competition. Viewers left for other shows on at the time, or because they got bored last season. I don’t think there is just one cause to the decline, I think what I mentioned are the multiple factors that have caused this decline, again just speculation. Since we don’t have full data, we will never be 100% certain.

  • cc

I do not get this hate for Revenge? It’s certainly not the worst show currently on tv. There are so many others to choose.

  • diana

People who say that were denying that revenge fell in ratings because of quality were not sure quality had a lot do with but u cant say that twd (I love that show) and footballs highest ratings in 15 years and plus it’s lead falling didn’t play a role like I said I’m not trying to blame the shows failure on twd and football just pointing out facts and assumptions

  • diana

People who say that revenge will likely fall below a 1.4 r crazy it’s not going to sink that low I think people r forget the fact that revenge didn’t go down in viewership

  • Miles R.

So happy The Good Wife didn’t adjust down. Cannot wait for next weeks episode! Looks incredible.

  • Lucas

Revenge will continue going down next week. I think 1.4 or less. Nashville have really good chance to get a 1.6 again or up one or two tenth with this week episode.
OUAT need to get out Neverland think. It´s cool but it´s getting bored

  • Kingstar

I love OUAT, to see it trending down about half a million each week is hard. But I am glad to see positivity toward the series. I can on hope and pray it will one day make past 100 episodes, but for now i’ll just focus on getting to season 4 and 88 episodes.

  • Matt

Revenge has to compete with #1 show on television. So don’t even go there saying it doesn’t perform well.

Revenge has to compete with #1 show on television

Yes, but even the most rational and well-thought-out explanation for a ratings decline is automatically dismissed as “Fan Excuse Bingo” on this site.

  • heba

maybe emily should take down all of the haters on this site

  • Shepherd

Yes, but even the most rational and well-thought-out explanation for a ratings decline is automatically dismissed as “Fan Excuse Bingo” on this site.

Because the reason for a show’s decline in ratings is irrelevant when it comes to a shows chances at renewal/ cancellation. The networks don’t care why the ratings declined, or what kind of competition the show faced; they only care about results. If finding a reason/ excuse as to why your show is doing poorly makes you feel better; good for you, but it still has no bearing on the shows prospects, nor should it enter the conversation concerning a show’s performance.

  • John

Lets see how any of ABC’s other dramas would do against both football and the Walking Dead; the two highest rated shows on all of TV.

    Rodney
@Ray “(TWD is much stronger this season, plus Revenge has a weaker lead in this season)”

TWD is much stronger quite simply because the quality of TWD is infinity times better than Revenge. Accept the facts
    _________________________
Ray didn’t compare TWD and Revenge quality. He did the ratings.. Stop twisting making it seem like that.. I watch TWD and Revenge and they are two polar opposites.

    Rex
@ray scandal goes up against Thursday night football
    ________________________________
Yeah Thursday night football is in the mid 2s and Sunday night is almost 10.0 that’s a 1/5 of the viewers difference. Just for that.

Haters need to accept the fact that revenge is getting renewed whether you like it or not so stop hating

That’s okay they will be completely stunned it gets renewed just like last year.. Max/Dante and Paris said it wouldn’t get renewed last year and it did.
