    @Steve A, no matter how much you or me or anyone tries to prove that revenge has tanked in terms of story or quality, none of their fans will accept it. Hence its better to just drop it

    How about you stop bunching all their fans in one group.. Simply that is not true. It had dropped a lot since S1 but I like it better since last season except last Sundays episode.. Despite slot of their fans in here saying it was a GREAT episode it was probably my least favorite EVER!!!

    What most of the fans on here hate is people wishing shows failure, laughing and wishing a shows cancellation.. It’s pretty pathetic. Besides as low as the ratings are or will be.. It will be renewed, because of syndication.

    Even a 1.5 isn’t terrible for ABC against the extreme competition (a 10.0 and a 7.1 on two separate networks!). I suspect that they can do better with stronger counterprogramming, but it’s not the worst decision in the world right now for ABC to surrender Sundays and just nurse OUAT/Revenge to 88 before dumping them off to whoever’s gullible enough to pick them up for syndication. If it’s good enough for CBS, it’s good enough for ABC.

    They could be doing much worse. The 10pm hour proves that.

  • Adam3648

    You forgot to mention that The Good Wife was adjusted up to a 4.9 18-49 rating! hehehe

  • Ultima

    @AllOfHerTwist
    Yes, but even the most rational and well-thought-out explanation for a ratings decline is automatically dismissed as “Fan Excuse Bingo” on this site.

    The fan excuse bingo comes into play not because people are blaming the low ratings on heavy competition, but because they are blaming the week-to-week declines on heavy competition, etc.

    NCIS initially had horrid ratings, but CBS accepted that things were going to be hard airing head-to-head with American Idol. However, the increased competition didn’t cause the show to go into a freefall and it actually grew its audience in seasons two and three despite American Idol also growing.

    Nobody should be expect huge numbers from Revenge, but for a third season drama, consistent numbers are to be expected and it’s just not delivering.

  • Dorothy5334

    Ultima so are you implying it won’t be renewed for season 4??

  • diana

    @Dorothy 5334 she’s trying to say that a show it’s third season should have stable numbers but revenge just hasn’t stabalized

  • AllOfHerTw!st

    BTW — I don’t watch or care about Revenge.

  • Ultima

    @Dorothy
    Ultima so are you implying it won’t be renewed for season 4??

    At this point? No, only that it isn’t as safe as many people think it is.

    If it had a 45% year-to-year drop (~1.2 average) and a 65% in-season drop (low of ~0.8), then I don’t think that ABC will renew it.

    NBC canceled Heroes after 78 episodes even though it was within a tenth of the network’s scripted average (and already had a syndication deal) because the year-to-year drops were too severe (-30% in S3, -37% in S4).

    So it’s not unprecedented for a network to drop a show that’s crashing even when all the typical indicators say renewal.

  • diana

    If revenge stabilizes at a 1.5_1.8 at least it will be safe but if it drops any further then that then I don’t know

  • JR35

    OUAT dodged a low bullet- not that it won’t get a final 2.0 in the future. Come on, now, inch back up a little next week.

  • BBFan

    Both Homeland & MoS have been renewed. Home is no surprise. It’s in a league of it’s own right now for SHO. For MoS to be renewed though it must be drawing many homes that Home doesn’t. As I’ve said before that matters a lot to premium networks.

  • Ray

    Revenge is so good this season and The haters need to admit that going up against football and The Walking Dead is serious competition!!Plus No one is going to DVR Football it’s something you just have to watch live!! Plus I just don’t get all the hate for the show anyways????Revenge and Once always go up in DVR playback every week so people saying that nobody is watching is just ridiculous ! Most people DVR them . Why? so we don’t have to sit through the commercials!

  • Ultima

    @Ray
    Revenge and Once always go up in DVR playback every week

    So does every other show.

    Most people DVR them . Why? so we don’t have to sit through the commercials!

    You do understand that networks and advertisers don’t care how many people watch the show, they care about how many people watch the commercials, right?

    Maybe you’re responding to specific comments about people not watching the show (in which case, fair enough); but your arguments are meaningless if you’re responding to people saying that the show might/will be canceled.

  • susie

    i could see why revenges ratings are tanking people are getting tired of the same old same old i personally would enjoy the show more if i knew that it was on its final season.

  • Shepherd

    @Ultima

    If it had a 45% year-to-year drop (~1.2 average) and a 65% in-season drop (low of ~0.8), then I don’t think that ABC will renew it.

    Wow, you’re even more pessimistic on its chances than I am! I figured it would have to see a low of .7 and average ~1.0-1.1 before it got canned. I guess I’m also trying to factor Nashville into the mix, but still. ;)

  • diana

    there is no way in hell that revenge will fall below a 1.0 this season it is possible but very unlikely. those of you who say that revenge will fall below a 1.0 this season should take into consideration that abc is going to schedule ouat,revenge,scandal and greys anatomy differently this season all of these shows will take a 3 month hiatus so it will be as their starting new seasons so likely after that hiatus revenge will likely come back with a 2.1 and pretty much stabalize to a 1.5-1.8 for the rest of the season. hopefully by next week revenge will stabalize to a 1.5-1.8

  • Ultima

    @Shepherd
    Wow, you’re even more pessimistic on its chances than I am!

    Yes and no; I don’t actually think it will fall that far.

    On the other hand, if ABC brings back Body of Proof, then I think Revenge has the ratings for six seasons and a movie! ;)

  • Ultima

    @diana
    those of you who say that revenge will fall below a 1.0 this season should take into consideration that abc is going to schedule ouat,revenge,scandal and greys anatomy differently this season all of these shows will take a 3 month hiatus so it will be as their starting new seasons

    The ratings will be down (on average) when it returns in the spring, because that’s what happens during the spring; scheduling it differently isn’t going to change that.

  • diana

    @Ultima
    ratings were down in the spring of last season because it was against the grammy nfl, and etc… and plus in season 1 the ratings were pretty much stable for the entire season. but since this year its not going to go up against award shows, maybe the ratings will stabalize. so it will be as if their starting new seasons. im just making assumtion’s so i might be wrong and you might be right, only time will tell

  • diana

    abc will promote those shows as if their starting new seasons. usually its like 3 months between seasons. on average shows 22 episode shows go down in spring because theres preemptions between shows that why on average a scripted show will go down. but sense abc is doing it cable style maybe all of those shows will return higher then they are and just stabalize for the rest of the season
