TV Ratings Friday: 'Grimm' Premiere Up from Last Year's Friday Debut, 'Hawaii Five-0' Flat + 'Dracula' has Solid Debut & 'The Carrie Diaries' Down

NBC was number one in adults 18-49 but CBS won with total viewers.

On NBC, Dateline matched last week's 1.3  adults 18-49 rating. The season premiere of Grimm earned a 1.8,up from last year's Friday premiere (which earned a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating) but down two tenths from last year's Monday  season debut which earned a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating. The series premiere of Dracula also earned a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating and is NBC’s highest in-season 18-49 rating in the slot, (excluding breaking news coverage) since January 4. Your predictions for both were spot on!

On ABC,  Shark Tank matched last week's 2.0 adults 18-49 rating   20/20 garnered a 1.5, up three tenths from the previous week's 1.2 adults 18-49 rating.

On CBS, Undercover Boss earned a 1.6, down two tenths from last week's 1.8 adults 18-49 rating. Hawaii Five-0 matched last week's 1.4 adults 18-49 rating. Blue Bloods matched last week's 1.3  among adults 18-49.

On FOX,  MasterChef Junior scored a 1.4, up a tenth from last week's 1.3  adults 18-49 rating.

On The CW,  The Carrie Diaries earned a paltry 0.3 adults 18-49 rating, down from last season's 0.6 series premiere rating and also down a tenth from the 0.4 adults 18-49 rating last season's finale earned. The iHeartRadio Katy Perry special earned a 0.2 adults 18-49 rating.

  • In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.6/7; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.5/6 with an encore; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 2.0/5 with an encore.

 

  • In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.7/4; "Late Show," 0.5/3 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.7/4 with an encore.

 

  • From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.5/5 in metered-market households and a 0.6/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

 

  • From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.5/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.4/5 with an encore).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2 with an encore).

 

  • At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.4/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    TCD isn’t that bad compared to Nikita’s 0.2, and it isn’t doing much worse than it was on Monday, and it’s doing better than BATB. If they switched slots it could help both of them.

    @Mike 1 UB demo was better than H50 but H50 had more viewers, flip BB & H50 would be stupid, H50 had better demo than BB. BB is retaining H50 viewers which is adding to their numbers. I think H50 & BB are a perfect fit. We’ll just have to see how it plays out in the coming weeks won’t we.

    NBC’s first victory on a non-football or -Voice night, and it’s a Friday. And its 18-49 rating all night was higher than on Wednesday or Thursday. Really sad.

    Solid numbers for both Grimm and Dracula, though. Even on a non-Friday night those would be good by NBC standards, but on a Friday night they’re even good by general standards.

    There was alot of hype for TCD last night and 0.84 with 0.3 adults thats bad, but its not a suprise (for a friday night) on the cw :(

    Carrie Diaries is out. Reign is out. TTP is out. Nikita is out. Also 1 or 2 midseason shows are out. So we already have 6 free spots for new shows.

    TCD did as expected being ona friday and in th CW how much did Nikita got last season¿? i think it was the same rigth¿?

    I suspect NBC is cheering that they won Mon, Tues, Fri and will win Sun. Any other network winning four nights this week?

    I’m very happy at the Grimm and Dracula ratings, though I will confess that I wanted a 2.0 for Grimm! But quite apart from ratings, Friday nights have now become the best night to watch TV for me! It was a lot of fun last night. Grimm was action-packed and on fire and Dracula followed right in its footsteps.

    Whatever NBC is doing for Fridays, why can’t it apply that to Tuesdays-Thursdays?

    Very solid ratings for Dracula and Grimm. Will see how it holds up in coming weeks.

    Did not expect Shark Tank to rise like that considering repeat lead-in.

    I have a feeling that in January Beauty and the Beast will be paired with The Carrie Diaries, and they’ll either being back Whose Line early and place it before Hart of Dixie or they’ll put a new show after Hart of Dixie.

    Dracula got some sampling at least. Week 2 is going to be a very interesting number.

    TCD ought to be bearchow given that the network now has half an acceptable lineup, but most of those shows aren’t doing well in ad rates relative to their ratings if the AdAge survey is any guide, and Dawn’s rich kid soaps did…
