While the cancellation bear made the prediction change earlier in the season, it's worth noting that Trophy Wife is now certain to be canceled. It's ABC's lowest rated non-Friday sitcom by a fair margin. The bear would guess that Suburgatory will replace it at some point, but when, the bear can't guess.

Those paying attention to the chart will note that Back In The Game has been moved back down to a "toss up". It's looking like it will be in a battle for survival with The Goldbergs (one that will possibly include Super Fun Night as well).

As always, early in the season, predictions change rapidly. Stay tuned.

The bear's getting increasingly nervous about Revenge being rescued by the syndication gods with its continuing ratings slide, but he's sticking with the gods. At least for now.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

While I don’t think SFN is an instant classic, it certainly should not be considered massively disappointing. Like every other show that airs after Modern Family, its failing. No surprise. I kind of enjoy the light comedy Rebel Wilson and the gang bring to the show. Hope ABC can find another slot.
Yes Trophy Wife seems like a good fit after MF. But then again I thought Cougar Town and Happy Endings seemed fine there at the time. Now those are extremely likable to me. Can’t wait for TBS to air another season of CT.

Still waiting on ABC to make a decision about its’ comedies…

TV Line/Deadline have just annouced the following

Trophy Wife and The Goldbergs have been given Full Season orders.

Super Fun Night has recived an addtional 4 episodes

Back in the Game has been cancelled but will air all 13 episodes.

  • Oliver

Back in the Game gets no back 9, ABC has given back 9s to Trophy Wife and The Goldbergs, and given a 4 episode back-order to Super Fun Night.

Trophy Wife got a back 9 and Back in the Game got cancelled. Good job with the predictions… *cough*

What’s wrong with the predictions? BITG was rated as a toss up. The fact that it was cancelled doesn’t make the prediction wrong or right.

Plus, if you bothered to read the bold text at the top of the page, the Bear is predicting potential renewal chances for the end of the 2013-2014 season. TW getting a back 9 doesn’t make it less likely to be cancelled, it just delays the inevitable. Besides, the Bear’s predictions aren’t about whether or not those shows get full seasons. It’s predicting whether or not they get cancelled.

    ABC won’t move:

    Greys Anatomy
    Shark Tank
    Last Man Standing

    Potential movements:
Goldbergs to any Wed slots (same for TW)
Super fun night to Tue slot
    Nashville to sun @10
Scandal to tue @9 (bt unlikely in this season)
    Revenge to sun @10

    whats say?

  • David Howell

Didn’t think BITG would be 13 and out, but the Bear was always going to chase it with a little more focus because of its slot and not being an ABC one. The comedies were all pretty close really, the Bear just gets to dine on a show it found tastier first before presumably serving up TW in its May feast!

DWTS- will continue for 2 more seasons with 2 cycles and them one cycle per season.
    Castle-8th season the final one
    Shield-4th season and canceled
    Middle-7th season the final one
    MF- 10th season still
    Greys-12th season the final one
    Scandal-7th season and final one
    OUAT-6th season and final one
Revenge-short 5th season and final one

  • Jon

Bold prediction….trophy wife gets moved to weds after modern family, and ends up getting renewed

  • Jon

right now I dont see any immediate end in sight for greys. It’s still a money maker for the network and is their second highest rated drama. I do see dancing eventually going to one cycle but not until 2015. Castle seems like an 8-10 year player for ABC especially with it doing well in syndication. If ABC drops it, I expect TNT to pick it up and order new episodes of it

Shield seems a bit harder to predict. If it stays in the mid 2’s it will see multiple seasons if not it could be a one season and out show.

I see little chance of Revenge seeing season 5, in fact I don’t see season 4 as a given right now. Once upon a time will see season 4 but after that is anybodys guess. Scandal seems like a 7 year player to me, I’ll go with you on that.

I can see both the middle and modern family hitting the 10 year mark together

  • Rob R

First unsettling indication that the numbers that TVBTN uses are not solely determinative. Trophy Wife is picked up for the entire season, while Back in the Game is cancelled and Super Fun Night only picked up for four extra episodes, taking it only to early March. My guess is ABC is evaluating, at least for the moment, the actual potential of the show. When Trophy Wive ticked UP this week without the Shields anchor at 8 pm, ABC realized it had a core fan base that kept coming back to this charming show every week.

  • diana

revenge will be renewed for a season 4 because of syndication but i do agree with you about it getting a season 5 i see very little chance of it getting a season 5

  • Cle

Lowest Premiers of the Season so far (Non-CW)

NBC Welcome To The Family 1.1 Canceled
ABC The Neighbors 1.2 Fix this
NBC Parks & Recreation 1.3 From premier its the only one staedy till
    ABC Lucky 7 1.3 Canceled
    NBC Ironside 1.3 Canceled

ABC really needs to fix TN creatively to increase ratings.. it draging down the night’s average… :(

  • Cle

I am saying DWTS will do 2 cycles per season for 2 more seasons and them turn to one cycle per season for rest..

And for Revenge situation, I think ABC is between the devil and deep blue sea in that slot. Obviously Revenge has to stay on either Sun @9 or Sun@10, both which are tough slots.. So ABC has to bear it.. And there is no veteran drama which ABC will put here as one is estblishing on its own (Scandal), getting old (Greys) and steady performer (Castle). ABC only will cancel Revenge if there is multiple breakout hits like in 2011-2012 so it can replace Revenge. And if the replaced one tanks Revenge can hold the slot rest of the season (Fifth season with short order) and finally can end. I dont see Revenge going further beyond 5th season, if ABC wants it to go Revenge has to widen its plots and enlarge its thin premise which can be possible.. but

    Once Upon A Time
    Last Man Standing
Dont trust the B in Apt 23

    The Neighbors

yikes…..pipe up the advertising for some new addicting shows for your female audience ABC. It worked in 2011-2012.

  • Sean

Looks like you were wrong on this one. It was picked up for a full season. That’s not saying it will be picked up for a second season.

  • Randy

Another site sent me something that Goldbergs got a full season order. That’s great. At least, it will be around for the whole season this year / next year.

  • Randy

Back in the Game is cancelled. I don’t really get why even though I don’t watch it???
