I really hope for the sake of the Revenge fans, that the show doesn’t drop any lower. They’re going to need to do a “Sweeps” episode to pump some life back into it. Every time Grey’s begins to lag, Shonda Rhimes throws in a sweeps episode that brings the audience back (the hopsital shooting, the plane crash, and the superstorm to name a few). Perhaps Revenge will need to just suck it up and kill off the dead meat (Aiden and Charlotte), and become the daring show it was in season 1. I’m not familiar with the storyline of the Good Wife but I am a diehard Scandal fan and of Political Thrillers in general, should I check it out?

Air Revenge twice a week but cancel Castle? What?

  • Sharon

I wonder why they just cover ratings of 18-49 year olds. I bet a lot of older people watched 60 Minutes this week – because they actually got eye witnesses to talk about Benghazi and how they felt when they were told they would not be rescued.

I wonder why they just cover ratings of 18-49 year olds

Because that is the primary advertising demographic for primetime entertainment programming and the most reliable predictor when trying to determine if said programming will be renewed or canceled.

This is the second week in a row that Good Wife ties H50 in demo and in number of viewers but TGW has to compete with Sunday Night Football and H50 has nothing that powerful up against it.

Looks like TM will be the most likely of the 3 to be canceled as it has the lowest demo and is filmed at the WB studios, I believe.

So Fridays are easier to get high ratings than Sundays?

  • Matt

At least Revenge and ONCE were both adjusted up in total viewers. Really hope that once the World Series and everything else is over, Revenge can return to high 1’s, low 2’s and ONCE to mid 2’s, which I can think is a good a possibility.

    Next Week Predictions:

    ONCE: 2.2 / 7.5 million
    Revenge: 1.6 / 6 million
    Betrayal: 1.0 / 3.5 million

    The Good Wife: 1.3 / 9 million
    The Mentalist: 1.3 / 8.5 million

CBS doesn’t put any strong shows on Friday because they know that the young don’t watch there. It has been said time and time again that they are more lenient on ratings on Friday for that reason. If you think SNF isn’t a HUGE barrier for shows to get decent ratings, than you really don’t know much about what is popular. Football is killer competition.

Yet TGW matches H50. That is why I said. Imagine if H50 was up against SNF like TGW? Would it hold up with a 1.4? Or would it sink to The Mentalist numbers or lower?

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t say it is hard to get decent ratings on Friday and then say that Sunday is an easier night. It is harder to get decent ratings when you are up against huge competition. That is why CBS chooses to MOVE shows to Friday that are DROPPING in ratings but they need more episodes for syndication. For that kind of show to survive (like H50)they HAVE to move it to Friday or it would get creamed on another night and have to be canceled.

Strong dramas, like NCIS and NCIS:LA are in syndication, have been for years, and are still killing it in the ratings SO CBS keeps them on competitive nights because they do well still.

Simply put. For H50 to survive it had to be moved to a noncompetitive night. Then they can forgive the ratings more in favor of episodes for syndication.

It might never have made it against football. Apparently that was the opinion of CBS. So yes, I think The Good Wife has it much tougher and it is amazing to me it maintains the same demo and number of viewers as H50.

I am not attacking your show. I am looking at the ratings and analyzing them. I can’t help it if you don’t like what I think.

Your show will go on. CBS did what they had to do to ensure that.

    They are smart.

But only on Sundays, not on Mondays!

I’m not sure why revenge keeps dropping but based on the ratings it definitely doesn’t have a loyal debase if ABC left it on Wednesdays a little longer and moved it on it’s third season then it probably would’ve dropped this far

  • Randy

Did I say not on Mondays? Where did you get that? Of course on Mondays also. Why do you think H50 was moved from Monday to Friday? That was my point. H50 couldn’t hold up on any other not BUT Friday. ;-)

  • diana

Really hope that revenge will go up on ratings for once at least to a 1.7 next week I definitely think that they should do a recap of revenge and a sweeps episode after it maybe that will bump up the ratings

Sundays episode of the TGW was probably the best hour of TV I’ve seen all year… amazing. I didn’t want it to end. Hard to believe it doesn’t have as many demo viewers… Although Revenge has been better than last year too and that is doing so much worse, which is hard to believe…

  • Randy

H50 was DROPPING hard and fast in the ratings last season. CBS needed it to survive and grow episodes for syndication. They weren’t going to wait until it dropped below 1.2 on Monday nights.

Hostages was their hope and it didn’t cut it. Such is life. They have to find another drama for Hostages.
But they didn’t want to risk the already dropping H50 to cancellation.

  • AllOfHerTw!st

So is a night that is less competitive the same as a night where you are able to achieve higher absolute ratings?

  • Ultima

I was mocking your comment about football being a HUGE barrier to getting decent ratings.

It only seems to be a problem on Sunday night, because plenty of scripted shows do just fine on Monday despite airing against both Monday Night Football and The Voice.

Also, football doesn’t seem to be a problem for Animation Domination getting good ratings – and it shares more of an audience with football than the dramas do!

It’s also funny how the ratings don’t go up after football ends!

But, yeah, I’m sure I don’t know much about what’s popular. That football is just killing these shows. I mean, if that’s not the reason for the low ratings, then I guess the only explanation is that it’s something else on the fan excuse bingo card!

  • Ultima

Why didn’t my comment post, it was dripping with sarcasm! :(

  • AllOfHerTw!st

Maybe your drippings fried the server?

  • Jeffrey Sean Keith

I still think in the Spring Revenge will go back up to 1.6 or 1.7 when baseball or football are over, the competition will be lesser!

  • Joe

Well what do you know, Revenge fell again! :)
What are the excuses this time Revenge lovers? Bla bla bla Walking Dead, bla bla Football, bla bla Random award show. It’s time to face facts, Revenge’s ratings are PATHETIC! You can try and spin it all you want, but a 1.4 is a horrible rating for any network TV show that doesn’t air on the CW. People gave the show a second chance by tuning into the premier, and then they quickly left again once they realized the show has not improved at all. And for those of you who want to blame Revenge’s failure on the competition, I have one question for you. Why wasn’t Football and the World Series affecting Revenge’s ratings last year? Why is it only this year that Revenge can’t pull a decent demo rating, despite having a fantastic lead in which earned a 2.2? It’s because people are tired of Emily never actually taking Revenge against the Graysons. I swear, this show moves at a slower pace than Pretty Little Liars. Literally nothing has changed since season 1 other than Jack knowing Emily’s true identity!
