    Fan Excuse Bingo! :)

    Its crazy that the originals beat VD! I guess it makes since the originals is a way better show compared to what VD has has become. This season blows!

    I’m not sure Gossip Girl was ever a flagship show. It was a show that got a lot of hype for itself, briefly, but I don’t know if it was ever any face of a network. Not any more than something like 90210 was for the first season or two. Once the hype for GG faded so did most of its role on the network.

    Second time Supernatural has beaten TVD this season, and it won’t be the last.
    TVD is getting increasily boring with all the doppelganger stuff.

  • Samuel

    @Truth Fan Excuse Bingo doesn’t apply to a matter of fact. The Vampire Diaries aired 2 hours late, in its biggest market.

    @Brandy

    Gossip Girl’s ratings stank to high heaven for most of its run. I doubt it would have lasted as long as it did under Pedowitz. More to the point, none of the shows that copied its formula did especially well.

    The Vampire Diaries wouldn’t even exist without Supernatural because SPN proved that dark fantasy could succeed on the network. Further, TVD has never done as well as Smallville did in the same slot and it’s doubtful TVD will last as long as Smallville did, either.

    Sure, The Vampire Diaries has done well, but the show also had a lot of help, more so than SPN did. Further, it’s getting in its fifth season what Supernatural is getting in its ninth for ratings. Also, while SPN has been used to launch three successful shows at this point (The Vampire Diaries, Arrow and The Originals), and on different nights, none of the new shows after TVD have done especially well.

    So, in terms of success, let’s talk about that when TVD gets to nine seasons and is doing as well as SPN, relatively speaking to allow for the Gunsmoke Rule. Then we can talk about which show is more successful. As it is right now, TVD doesn’t look set to be breaking any of the records that SPN is likely to do. And I doubt it will end up being the trendsetter in terms of the network’s successfully cloning it for most of the new shows, as has happened for both SPN and Smallville.

    It feels as though we’ve had this runaround more than once with fans of other shows like Smallville, Gossip Girl, Nikita, and now TVD, and the thing is that’s because SPN has outlasted (or probably will outlast) them all. You don’t have to like the show, but this is a ratings site and SPN is a remarkable ratings success for the CW, despite years of neglect for most of its run. It seems dumb to pretend that’s not true.

    TVD did, however, air that same night in the same market, and the audience just didn’t follow it to that slot, even though they could have DVR’d it and watched it the same night for it to count. Jeez, people, you act as if TVD were the only show that’s ever been preempted somewhere or aired on a holiday, or as if it hadn’t already been teetering on the border of getting a 0.9 in the finals at some point since last spring.

    as you can see SPn only beat TVD once in the demo

    @methix01
    As you can see TVD has aired 5 episodes so far and SPN has aired 4. As I posted earlier, TVD and TO started a week ahead of the other CW shows. SPN’s first episode on 10/8 (1.2) went up against TVD’s second episode on 10/10 (1.0). So you see, SPN has been the top CW show in the demo for two weeks this season. Snowleopard was not wrong.

    Yeah, it’s pretty hilarious how delusional some of them are.

  • Paul

    TVD deserves more this season is totally awesome!

  • thesnowleopard

    @Truth
    The funny thing is that nobody with half a brain expects this to be the demise of TVD. We all know these conditions are unusual and not likely to happen often, so it will surely rise again next week. Even if it didn’t, it wouldn’t be in any danger of cancellation. 0.9 is still very healthy for the CW.

    But it still counts. TVD used to be robust enough that it wouldn’t fall this far, even with preemptions or heavy competition. And it also used to be the strongest show, ratingswise, on the CW by far. So, this is noteworthy.

    But, as usual, we’ve go to have some confused fans who think they’re on a fansite and not a ratings site, here to defend their show’s honor, by God, even if it means denying the facts.

  • Bear1000

    Not looking too good for “Reign” I’m sorry to say. Then again, this is the CW so maybe the show will get to carry on like “Nikita” did.

  • AllOfHerTw!st

    If only there were as man Nielsen families watching The CW as there were people commenting about CW shows on these message boards!

  • Amy

    @luisl TVD was much better the 1st two seasons when KW was in charge.

  • Kenny

    TVD did pretty low.
    That episode was so boring except for one or two scenes.
