Updated Live+7 DVR Ratings: 'The Big Bang Theory' Tops Adults 18-49 Ratings Increase, 'Beauty And the Beast' Earns Biggest Percentage Gain & 'Toy Story of Terror' Tops Viewership Gains in Week 4

The Big Bang Theory Season 7 Episode 5

Our source for Live+7 DVR ratings includes only original programs, excluding repeats (which are unlikely to be heavily DVR viewed). Do the Live+7 ratings tell us anything about a show's renewal prospects we didn't already know from the Live+Same Day ratings?  No.  Click here to learn more.

During the fourth week  of the 2013-2014 season (October 14-20), The Big Bang Theory topped the rankings for the week's DVR viewing adults 18-49 ratings added between the Live+Same Day period (as reported in all our other ratings posts) and the Live + 7 Day measurement periods gaining 2.3 adults 18-49 ratings points.

Beauty And The Beast  topped the % adults 18-49 ratings increase from DVR viewing, adding 100% to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings.

We'll add the total viewership table when that data arrives on Monday.

Definitions:

DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data LiveLive+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.

Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.

Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate

Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

    Do these ratings really matter? Excuse me if stupid question. Why do on demand viewing data?u I am sure that Comcast, for example has exact data as to who watches what and when.

    Grey’s Anatomy is a beast, +2.1% is HUGE ! I love it ! Hope the ratings will go up through the season ! Plus, it will have a big cliffhanger in the mid-season finale, I can’t wait to know what it’s gonna be !

    Wow TO grew in DVR ! And why aren’t as much tvd fans as last year watching live this season ? It has the same DVR numbers from last year just lower live ..

    DVR numbers should count and will eventually. You have to figure that you cannot DVR a show without recording the commercials too! And we can only guess that viewers are skipping commercials? Even in fast forward the advertisers still get the name of the product out there, in our minds if even slightly in a subliminal manner. So why not count it? It does attest to the popularity of a show. Advertisers will change their minds and find other ways to show off their products. After all, many of them show off their products within the actual show, so that too should account for something.

    Great for all ABC shows, SHIELD, Grey’s, Scandal, & Modern Family all above a 4.5 in the demo! Modern Family at a 5.9 – wow! Not bad for Nashville, Castle, Revenge, and Once Upon A Time – although those are usually the biggest ABC DVR gainers in total viewership.

    For Grey’s to be doing a 4.8 demo rating in its 10th season is outstanding.

    If anyone has the Live+7 total viewing figures for TVD, both for this week and last, I’d really appreciate it if they could let me have them.

    And TVD currently has the exact same Live+7 demo ratings average as it had at this point last season, which was itself up from the Live+7 average of both S2 and S3. Good for them.

    @taylor Well, being pre-empted two out of five episodes in the biggest TV market in the country hasn’t helped TVD’s live ratings, nor did Halloween, which is ratings Kryptonite. The weeks when nothing like that has happened, TVD hasn’t dropped too badly in Live+same day viewing figures. That said, it has lost multiple very popular characters to the spin-off this year, which might mean that there are people who do still want to watch TVD, but don’t consider it appointment live TV in the same way as they did when the Originals were still on it. Just a guess and I could be totally wrong, but it seems possible. As I recall, Buffy took a significant ratings hit when Angel and Cordy left for that spin-off, too.

    Even in fast forward the advertisers still get the name of the product out there

    On my DVR, I can rapidly tap the 30-sec skip button to get through the entire commercial break without actually seeing anything except the last few seconds of the final ad spot (which is usually local or a self-promo).

    Besides, they don’t need to use these ratings; Nielsen measures the ratings the actual commercials get.
