I don’t see the crime in having shows appeal to different age groups. Everyone has different tastes. And as for the 18-49 demo group, well, that was created during a different era. Let’s be honest, 50 year olds do a lot of buying these days, more than their 18 year old counterparts (they tend to have more money). That’s probably why they also use the 25-54 demo for sales. And whether you like BB or not, 11 million viewers (regardless of age) on a Friday night is impressive!

And besides – who the heck watches commercials anyway? Don’t we all just DVR?

I wholeheartedly agree with your post. What is it with bashing people 50+ watching TV shows? Why are some people here laughing at H50 or BB ratings? The overall viewership tells you a lot how popular the show is. Yes, I know advetisers pay for the demo, which is outdated and unfair, because currently 18 -25 year old are often in worse financial situation then older folks. To be fair 25-54 demo makes much more sense.

So if I’m not mistaken Blue Bloods was adjusted down a tenth among adults 18-49 versus Friday’s preliminary ratings but it appears to have actually rose in total viewers. In total viewers it is the second highest rated 10pm show on CBS behind Person of Interest. I feel the network is really satisfied with this show and that it has the ability to pull in that many eyeballs on Friday. Considering the highest demo of the night for a scripted show was 1.5, I feel Blue Bloods did well at 10pm.

Last Man Standing is really doing good for ABC Friday. If it can get back in the 7-8 million range with at least a 1.6 demo, ABC will have Friday nights on lock and will need a better companion show in the 8:30pm slot.

  • 18-49 Demo

HeadlessHorseman & Crimtv 2 of you are wrong is not 1.2% of 18-49 out out 10mill watching the show its 1.2% of 18-49 that are watching TV at that time

so if 100mill ppl are watching tv at that time 100mill=100%
1.2% out of 100mill on the 18-49 demo watch BB 98.8% in the 18-49 demo was watching another shows on other channels

    ^^

I think there are 126,500,000 people in the 18-49 demo.

And, in other news, there are plenty of morons here for Moron Master to master!

    ;-) :-)

    @ AllofHerTw!st

I think you misread the posters name

He (or she) is the self-titled ‘MASTER MORON’
and his own words are very telling (lol)

(LOVE your name by the way!)

    @18-49 demo
If you bothered to read my comment thoroughly, you’d know that’s exactly what I said.

“The 1.2 means that 1.2% of adults 18-49 were watching Blue Bloods.”

I also corrected myself on the 10 million viewers remark and changed it to 9.5 million. Since a 1.2 equates to about 1.5 million adults 18-49, if you subtract that from 11 million, you’ll find that 9.5 million of the people watching Blue Bloods are above or below the 18-49 demo.

I have gotten sick of the fact that the 18 to 49 demographic being the ONLY factor that counts for anything. Apparently a program with several Million more total viewers, of which I am one, has only minimal to no value among sponsors. Maybe the meaningless Millions of us need to send a hard felt message to where it hurts most. Maybe a massive boycott by everyone over fifty might prove a point that we are not quite as valueless as imagined.
