Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

For all of the people who keep trying to offer “solutions” to CBS’ Sunday scheduling problem, your post should look like this.

Part 1. “I think that CBS should cancel The Mentalist instead of airing it past the end of primetime.”

If you don’t believe that, then you aren’t capable of offering a viable solution.

Part 2. Explain why CBS would be better off by forfeiting an hour of original primetime programming.

Part 3. Now you can finally get around to offering a scheduling solution.

  • Ultima

For people who don’t understand my logic about CBS Sundays, look at the other networks.

FOX’s most important Sunday priority is the 8-10pm block. In the past, ABC and NBC prioritized their 8-11pm programming (or only 9-11pm programming at some points on NBC).

Because of those priorities, the networks were able to join programming in progress and/or put buffer programming in the 7pm hour to handle sports overruns.

FOX is fine with airing an NFL overrun and The OT in most of the country and animation repeats out west, because their goal is the ensure that The Simpsons starts at 8pm.

CBS has a different set of goals. Their goal is to have 60 Minutes lead off their primetime and air in its entirety. Subsequently, the only possible solution for CBS would be to make the other end of their primetime lineup expendable (i.e. the 10pm hour).

Therefore, in order to “fix” CBS’ schedule, you must favor cancelling The Mentalist in order to do it. Are fans of the show that committed to fixing CBS that they view their show as expendable? Doubt it.

Well hallelujah, Revenge finally rose! I never thought I’d be so excited for a 1.7 rating for Revenge, given how high the show started out over two years ago but here we are…

Great for The Good Wife as well. I’ve only once before seen a show reach its full potential in season 5. (It was The Practice, by the way.) It just keeps getting better and better.

  • Marilyn

    Where is The Mentalist?

  • diana

since revenge has dropped all season on a weakly basis a 1.7 is actually pretty good compared to a 1.4

  • Ultima

    Where is The Mentalist?

It didn’t air during primetime in most of the country; CBS replaced the scheduled episode with a repeat.

  • Alexis

@Ultima lol. What I meant, of course, was that moving Revenge to the Thursday 8pm slot would be as good as cancelling it, because that’s like sending a kitty cat to survive in the jungle. Its ratings would take such a massive hit that it would end up being Bear Chow anyway. But this is a purely theoretical scenario and I can’t see it happening for real.

Props to Revenge for only getting quadrupled in the demo by The Walking Dead this week. The tide is turning.

    Revenge isn´t dead

In Ouat,ARIEL RULES like Hook in past season!Go on again, and again and again!Let’s back at the times with 11 or 12 milion of share!Ciao!

    ….and the mentalist???

  • lisa

That ending of last nights episode of REVENGE was EPIC. Tht plan is so good. I wonder how it will unfold, that is still a mystery.

I don’t think ABC will ever send a veteran to Thursday 8pm unless it’s going to end. Among the three death slots (Sunday 10pm, Tuesday 10pm and Thursday 8pm), the Thursday one is the toughest for Revenge. So if Revenge is moving it’ll be least likely to Thursday.

And Revenge won’t improve the ratings, it’ll just sink to Wonderland-level. ABC will rather try new shows in that slot than sending a veteran to death.

  • Aiden_Mathis

I’m glad Revenge is UP! If it stays above 1.5 it will be a sure renewal. It’s not doing great though, but it’s not in the bubble, ABC has bigger problems right now.

The Good Wife should be renewed. I mean, a 1.6 in it’s fifth season… It’s the worse night for CBS, and it is doing better than the friday line-up, better than Hostages for sure, and it’s close to Elementary’s performance lately, and Elementary is only in its second season. I mean, I think that getting only 2 tents less than Elementary, plus having a syndication deal… It should be enough for one more season. And people say that this season is better than ever, so… I hope The Good Wife will be renewed. Not sure it will happen though. Anything can happen.

@James Agreed, which is why I said a couple of posts back that they SHOULDN’T put Revenge in that slot. If its numbers slide further and they need to move it, I believe the smart play would be to move both GA and Scandal an hour earlier, and put Revenge in the Thursday 10pm slot. GA and Scandal have a large following that won’t be lost if they move, and Scandal can do wonders for Revenge as a lead-in.

Jeez, that’s a season *high* for The Good Wife? Yeesh.

I tried giving the show another chance when I tuned in for The Mentalist and saw it had overrun, but I just couldn’t get beyond the disbelief that lawyers would be allowed to snipe at each other like a bunch of ten-year-olds in court. I didn’t buy it on Boston Legal, either, but at least then it was played for laughs.

  • klia

I keep seeing people say some parts of the country got a rerun of The Mentalist — well, it was a rerun on the west coast, even though football was long over, so where in the country did they get the new episode? Hawaii and Alaska?
