Late Friday, while the Cancellation Bear was sleeping, ABC made a few moves with its rookie sitcoms.

While all the bear's predictions are made for moves by season end, it was a bit surprising that Trophy Wife received a full season order since it's currently the lowest rated of ABC's rookie sitcoms. Nevertheless, the bear's prediction that Trophy Wife is certain to be canceled by the end of the season remains the same.

The fact that Super Fun Night wasn't given a full season, just an order for four more schedule spackling episodes, marks it as certain to be canceled at season's end. Don't expect any more news about it from ABC until it's not on the 2014-15 schedule revealed in May. As always, mum's the word for to be canceled shows.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

  • Jonay

Do you think ABC will air all 18 episodes of Once Upon a time in wonderland??

  • Marc

    The Neighbors for the Win!

    Dang!

  • Jeff (Canada)

ABC is going to have a problem with its comedies next season. Most likely the only returning comedies will be The Middle, Modern Family, and a final season of Suburgatory.

  • Stop-Colin-Me

I’m not sure about a certain cancellation of Trophy Wife. If ABC reschedules it, it could take off.

  • Cyrax86

@Jonay, There are 13 episodes (no info whether they are meant to film more than that), but in 2013 they can air 7-8 at most, so let’s hope they air more in 2014.

  • JJ

Unless SFN ratings start to increase, ABC pretty much sealed its fate by not ordering a full season. I wish Rebel would have kept her accent because her American one is awful!

  • rob60990

Now when Mixology tanks, maybe then ABC will learn their audience wants more family comedies.

  • Wright

Renew OUAT and AoS and I’m good :)

  • Russ

I am bummed about Wonderland. I know it stands no shot of a renewal, so I hope it ends properly. I hope they let all the episode air, even if they don’t allow it to happen in the Thursday timeslot (perhaps during OUAT hiatus). I’m glad Once is still in a good position, but I wish the ratings would improve a bit.

  • RoscoeDC

BACK IN THE GAME cracks me up. It’s a shame it’s gone so soon.

  • Ultima

    @Jeff
ABC is going to have a problem with its comedies next season. Most likely the only returning comedies will be The Middle, Modern Family, and a final season of Suburgatory.

Last Man Standing will probably return as well. Assuming that Suburgatory is moved to 8:30pm Friday, that leaves two open timeslots on their primary comedy night for new shows.

They’ll only have a problem if they insist on airing four hours of comedy and don’t have a really strong freshman to anchor the Tuesday hour.

  • Contrarian

What’s funny is that Back in the game is at .9 on the index and it’s ratings have been consistently mediocre. And if stuff like shield and trophy wife continue to slide while it stays consistent it may do a life unexpected and actually creep up for a canceled show.

  • Eliot

Really annoyed at Back in the Game’s cancellation. Did not deserve it. :(

  • Val

I totally disagree with the prediction for Super Fun Night !

If Mixology doesn’t work, SFN will be renewed. The same thing happened last season for The Neighbors and “How To Live With Your Parents” wasn’t a flop, they could have done the opposite.

The Neighbors had a full season one order but ABC had to schedule new episodes in repeats nights. And it was a bad choice, they got it know and that’s why SFN doesn’t have 22 episodes.

And Mixology has a 13 episode order, they need to air them all because of the concept of the show so the show must arrive soon enough.

So from my point of vue, the fact that SFN doesn’t have a full season order is just a scheduling issue. It still have a chance to be renewed in May.

  • Dan S

I’m feeling a lot better for Goldbergs getting a full season pickup. Hopefully someone at ABC sees our comments at TVBTN & move both TG & TW to Wed in Jan. If they do I’m quite confident they’ll both get a shot at a 2nd season. Suburgatory can go to Tues & pair it with Mixology if they insist on trying out comedies on Tues.

  • Matt

Thank you for marking SFN as certain to be canceled rather than canceled. :)

  • jupiter3765

are super fun nights ratings anemic

  • Scandalicious

I just really up ABC uses the midseason opportunity to pt Trophy Wife behind Modern Family. If they keep it on Tuesdays they are going to go another season without finding a hit comedy. I am pulling hard for Nashville now also. It really needs to tick up next original episode. It has so much potential but it can’t find an audience :(

So glad Revenge and Once Upon a TIme did better this week!!

  • Shepherd

Revenge just landed a strong left on Nashville. This fight is Revenge’s to win or lose, and it looks like Nashville is about to go down, but for now; Nashville is still standing.

  • FallerWanderer

@JJ wait… Rebel isn’t American?! And mom luv SFN. Dad…not so much.
