Late Friday, while the cancellation bear was sleeping, ABC made a few moves with its rookie sitcoms.

While all the bear's predictions are made for moves by season end, it was a bit surprising that Trophy Wife received a full season order since it's currently the lowest rated of ABC's rookie sitcoms. Nevertheless, the bear's prediction that Trophy Wife is certain to be canceled by the end of the season remains the same.

The fact that Super Fun Night wasn't given a full season, just an order for four more schedule spackling episodes, marks it as certain to be canceled at season's end. Don't expect any more news about it from ABC until it's not on the 2014-15 schedule revealed in May. As always, mum's the word for to be canceled shows.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @ Bill

. . . Nevertheless, the bear’s prediction that Trophy Wife is certain to be canceled by the end of the season remains the same.

That could be. . .ok, probably would be true. . .if it remains on Tuesday and maintains its current R/C.

But I believe you will need to revise this prediction before May.

I think ABC has every intention of trying it out in one of the sweetheart Wednesday night slots. That will be the real gauge of whether it get renewed or not. It will do much better there. Certainly better than BITG or Super Fun Night

Bill, can you explain to a simple-minded folk like myself why Trophy Wife is getting a big break while Back in the Game and Super Fun Night are getting canned??? It doesn’t make any sense to me.

  • Doug

I’m really confused why Super Fun Night would be cancelled based on its placement in the chart. It seems like it’d be a lock to be safe for now. Can anyone explain the logic?

  • Cle

    I predict

    Renewal (7 Dramas & 5 Comedies)
    3.Greys Anatomy
7.Nashville OR (Any Midseason Dramas; Last time ABC didn’t renew any Midseason Dramas/All were underperforming) So Nashville has a shot..

    1.Modern Family
3.LMS OR Surburgatory OR The Neighbhors (any 2 of them)
4.Trophy Wife OR Goldbergs OR Mixology (One of them as Save Face Renewal)

It’s really a shame because Super Fun Night is a good show. I don’t know why it’s getting so much hate around here. Oh well. I guess i’ll just continue to enjoy it while it lasts.
Meanwhile, the utterly horrible Trophy Wife gets a full season. A mediocre, stupidly titled, unfunny show with bottom of the barrel ratings week after week. I don’t get it.

TW full season order surprised me as well!

I also don’t think SFN will be as blessed & can’t get over the amount of frowning faces in this post.

The only one smiling here is the bear!

PS: Pour some Jim Beam Honey on BITG (Boo!)

  • gerry

happy w the full season order of tw, and not surprised. abc is going to make a go of it if they can. its funny, it just needs more eyeballs on it.

unlike sfn, which i tried and while it has funny moments, it just isn’t funny.

“I’m really confused why Super Fun Night would be cancelled based on its placement in the chart.”

Its premiere rating skewed the index.

  • Christina Atteridge

PLEASE SAVE BETRAYAL… It’s a great show that’s really getting good each week… Anyone can catch up on Betrayal on, Hulu Plus, and on ABC on-demand.

  • Ultima

I totally disagree with the prediction for Super Fun Night !

If Mixology doesn’t work, SFN will be renewed. The same thing happened last season for The Neighbors and “How To Live With Your Parents” wasn’t a flop, they could have done the opposite.

The Neighbors had a full season one order but ABC had to schedule new episodes in repeats nights. And it was a bad choice, they got it know and that’s why SFN doesn’t have 22 episodes.

And Mixology has a 13 episode order, they need to air them all because of the concept of the show so the show must arrive soon enough.

So from my point of vue, the fact that SFN doesn’t have a full season order is just a scheduling issue. It still have a chance to be renewed in May.

Wow, that’s some well-reasoned delusion! Can you explain how the much lower rated Trophy Wife getting a full season pickup fits in there? ;)

The index lags behind for shows with rapidly dropping ratings.

    Super Fun Night – 3.2, 2.5, 2.1, 2.1, 1.7

Once upon a time in Wonderland may have a chance. Every episode get better and it also helps that ABC knows how powerful it CAN be. I think ABC might give it another chance then take a risk on some unknown show. It also need to where it belongs. Which is Sunday Night as a lead into Once Upon a time.

  • Cyrax86

@Lucky, Unfortunately I think OUATiW will be lucky to crack a 1.0 this week as NBC is airing The Voice at the that time.

  • AP076

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland has no chance of airing beyond its original short season.
That you perceive the episodes as “getting better” means nothing to the viewers who never even sampled the show in sufficient numbers in the first place and thereafter left in droves.

“How powerful it can be” <——Powerful, clearly you are watching the show too much given such a hyperbolic adjective choice.

    Dan’s ABC Rating Analysis

Dramas: I still think along with Grey’s, Castle, Scandal, Revenge, OUAT, and Shield, Nashville will be renewed. Judging by ABC’s recent drama flops, Lucky 7, OUAT Wonderland, and Betrayal, ABC may not want another Body of Proof on there hands, so Nashville will be more likely to return then cancelled.

Comedies: ABC did the right thing capping Back in the Game at 13 episodes and extending Super Fun Night. Neither show was right for Wed but the shows bow act as a bridge to Suburgatory and Mixology. While BITG is officially cancelled, Super Fun Night is not. Like last seasons Malibu Country and Guy’s With Kids, from an ABC standpoint it has as much of a chance to return for a second season should numbers improve. My personal opinion is that of Bill’s in that the series will be done after its short season. But officially its not cancelled. As for rophy Wife my guess is that should ABC move it or if ratings improve, than it definitely has a chance at season 2. If the season ended tomorrow, Trophy Wife may be done but if ABC renews 2 comedies from this season it would be The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife. As always Modern Family, The Middle, and Last Man Standing are certain to return next season.

  • Michael1

Is there somewhere that they keep a tally of the number of times peole mention how much better “Trophy Wife” would do if it was on after “Modern Family”? Why doesn’t ABC just sell it to USA so that we can all find out?

  • Lucky

Clearly you don’t know how popular “Once Upon a Time” truly is.

  • Angela

The only thing I don’t like about Super Fun Night is the name of the show and the god awful opening. Am I the only one that cringes when they do that opening?

  • Val

“Wow, that’s some well-reasoned delusion! Can you explain how the much lower rated Trophy Wife getting a full season pickup fits in there? ;)”

    Of course I can ! ;)
ABC doesn’t have enough news shows for midseason to remove Tuesday’s comedies (but I think it will be deplaced at 8). The Goldbergs is doing good, and Trophy Wife is compatible and went up last week, its ratings are not terrible like “Don’t Trust The B…” last year. It would be worse if ABC put Back In The Game or Super Fun Night instead at midseason.

So I think Trophy Wife was renewed for scheduling issues. Exactly like Back In The Game was cancelled, to let Suburgatory come back at its old place.

PS : I’m French so I’m sorry for my english.
