The commenter whines piling up over the methods of our Bubble Watch are many, and varied. The Cancellation Bear's not one to argue with boldness, but he is a creature of habit, network habit.

Let's look at the dramas that aired during the Fall that the CW has canceled in recent seasons:

Given that history, the bear is reluctant to predict that more than two Fall airing dramas will be canceled by the CW. Given that their current ratings are so much lower than the rest of the line up, those two right now are clearly The Carrie Diaries and Beauty & The Beast. That could change. Stay tuned.

Might the CW cancel more shows that are on the air right now? Anything's possible, but the bear's unlikely to predict it.

With three seasons complete, the CW syndication gods will demand that Hart Of Dixie be renewed for a fourth season. Maybe it'll be a short one like Nikita's, or maybe not. The bear doesn't get into predicting episode orders.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

If Beauty and the Beast gets canceled will The CW renew Reign??

  • Dollface

I really hope reign gets renewed it is really good.

  • Jeff (Canada)

I think if Reign tanks in the coming weeks, it’ll be canceled. But if it maintains what it’s getting now, it’ll be renewed. Everything else will be renewed (minue Carrie and Beauty of course).

I’m HOPING The 100 does well in the new year, but like Cult last year, I don’t have high hopes for its ratings.

  • Me

    Reign > BATB
    BY FAR…

  • Russ

I still don’t buy that they’re going to cancel Reign. I need to see the ratings drop further to believe that. Hart of Dixie may be “safe”, but I think it could see something between the Nikita and the Gossip Girl treatment (6-10 episodes) next year, which effectively makes it a non-pickup. Thus, I would ostensibly count it toward the ‘cancellation’ pile, in terms of counting how many shows will be cancelled.

  • Michael

The Cw might cancel more than 2 shows!
    Think about mid-season shows
Tcd batB are certain for cancelation while it is possible reign for cancellation
Star crossed probably could end up next to tvd because reign is a limited series
And the 100 looks really good it better be renewed just needs a good slot
Any predictions for the cw mid season?

  • Lukes

Wow, Beauty and Carrie are REALLY below the others!

  • Wright

    Renew Reign!!!! Please!!!!

“The Cw might cancel more than 2 shows!

Oh, I’d expect them to cancel more than 2 shows. But I’m reluctant to predict it’s more than 2 Fall shows.

Reign cancellation would not surprise me, but I’m not inclined to predict that just because of past CW behaviour.

But there is zero chance they renew it with fewer episodes than they ordered this season. Absolutely no reason to do that with a freshman show.

  • Michael

    @Bill Gorman
I expect the cw to prbably cancel reign if it does decide cancel more than 2 fall shows and the 100
Will probably survive I think star crossed would probably be cancelled (For mid season shows)

  • David

The Bubble Watch has been pretty awful this year.

  • David Howell

Reign is #3 on the bear’s menu. I’m thinking that it vacates its slot to The 100 and those two compete for a renewal. If Reign can have a back nine, and I hear conflicting messages here, it replaces ANTM or TCD on Friday, or BATB on Surrender Monday.

  • zoe

Reign really surprised me turned out to be good – who ever did the pilot promo needs to be canceled.

Tomm People had worst pilot – bad acting and no storyline. It has to be expensive to make and it keeps losing viewers every week.

  • Eliot

    I think:

    Beauty and the Beast (cancelled)
    The Carrie Diaries (cancelled)
    Hart Of Dixie (renewed)
    Reign (renewed)
    The Tomorrow People (renewed)
    Arrow (renewed)
    The Originals (renewed)
    Supernatural (renewed)
    The Vampire Diaries (renewed)

  • Bob

What about Gossip Girl? I know that “ended” but technically that was another show that was taking up a scripted slot. That makes three in my books. It’s certainly possible now that CW has opened up Friday to two scripted shows, and is using ANTM to bridge Summer and Fall that there is room but I think it’s not quite accurate to say they only cancelled two Fall shows last season. I know H8ter (or whatever it was called) is unscripted, but that was taking up a slot too (I think two seasons ago). As you always repeat, they need to make enough room and I doubt that they will only want to launch two new shows next season (especially given they have two relatively promising new shows coming in mid-season) – a cancellation out of Reign and Tomorrow People seems fairly likely.

  • Claudine

I really love BATB and Reign and look forward to them each week. That’s a shame.

  • CrystalBall

Beauty and the Beast is so dead, how many chances it is moved mid-season ?

  • hammard

Whilst I don’t think they are going to cancel Reign (at least not yet, we’ll see what happens with the mid season schedule) the issue is that this year has even more shows available to be cancelled. If my count is correct:

2010-11: 9 fall (LUX, 90210, HC, OTH, GG, N, Spn, Sv, VD) 0 midseason.
2011: 8 fall (N, GG, HoD, Spn, R, TSC, VD, OTH), 0 midseason.
    2012: 9 fall (EO, N, GG, 90210, HoD, B&TB, Spn, VD, A), 2 midseason (C, CD)
    2013: 10 fall (TTP, N, R, HoD, B&TB, Spn, VD, TO, A, CD), 2 midseason (100, SC)

I suppose there is an argument that Nikita doesn’t count as it is such a short run but it is still possible that the increased number will lead to it, especially as the only show likely to be given a final season order (which has to be treated as different for the rule to apply) is HoD and this could easily be the same sort of shortened run as Nikita.

If you’d like to count that way. Nikita is this year’s show that was announced as “ending” prior to the start of the season.
