“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (8:00-9:00 p.m. – 7.0 million and 2.5/7 in AD18-49):

ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returned to original after the prior week’s repeat as Tuesday’s No. 2 scripted TV show in Adults 18-49 to CBS’ “NCISand as the night’s No. 1 TV show overall with key Men (M18-34/M18-49). Please Note: The show paced within 1-tenth of its last original in the Fast Affiliate Adult 18-49 ratings (2.5 vs. 2.6 on 10/22/13) and goes up 1-tenth in the Nationals. In addition, “S.H.I.E.L.D.” held 100% of its Adult 18-34 number from its last original and was up 19% with Men 18-34 (2.5/9 vs. 2.1/8) to a 5-week-high – since 10/1/13.

 

  • The ABC drama won its hour by strong margins with Adults 18-34 and key Men (M18-34/M18-49) to rank as Tuesday’s No. 1 TV show in Men 18-49 for its 6th consecutive first-run airing. In fact season to date (6 complete weeks), “S.H.I.E.L.D.” is broadcast TV’s No. 2 entertainment series with Men 18-49, behind only CBS’ top-rated “The Big Bang Theory.”

 

  • “S.H.I.E.L.D.” is the season’s 2nd-biggest Adult 18-49 broadcast gainer in TV Playback (behind only “The Big Bang Theory”), adding +2.1 rating points or +62% from L+SD to L+7.

 

  • On average, “S.H.I.E.L.D.” is improving its time period for ABC by 105% in Adults 18-49 (4.3/13 vs. 2.1/6), standing as the Net’s top-rated series in the hour in 4 years – since 2009.

 

The Goldbergs (9:00-9:30 p.m. – 5.0 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):

At 9:00 p.m.,The Goldbergs” topped Fox’s “New Girl(3.9 million) in the half-hour by 1.1 million viewers to rank as Tuesday’s most-watched comedy for the 7th straight week.

 

  • The Goldbergs” was up 11% week to week with Men 18-34 to tie a 4-week high – since 10/8/13.

 

Trophy Wife (9:30-10:00 p.m. – 3.8 million and 1.2/3 in AD18-49):

In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC’s “Trophy Wife” outdrew Fox’s “The Mindy Project(2.9 million) by 31% in Total Viewers.

    this is real at least , and i think they dont want to return to 1.4 as their best number on tuesdays so they ll keep it around probably. it would do better imo on another timeslot and hour.

    I think Shield will become the fox cartoons for ABC. I think the 18-49 don’t tell the full story here.

    ABC included the bit about only being down .1 in the fast affiliate ratings to counter the usual panicky headlines about SHIELD sliding lower. TVBN has such a headline and other sites will parrot that even after the final numbers come in.

    so how many 18-34 year old men is that in numbers? 1mil?if even that, in a country of 315mil, wow. I know i’d be impressed if I was paying the big bucks to advertise. Maybe there’ll do better with the asian market they just sold to. Just like a Hollywood producer predicted, they create this drivel because it sells so well to Asia without the need to advertise to push the show(or movie). Thats why we’re inundated with these forever sequels, because it sells so easily there.

    There is so much more than the key demo of 18-49 but I really don’t know how the various subsets of it are valued in order of importance by advertisers, such as more precise age ranges, income levels and sex.

    Comparing ABC’s spin on Marvel to CBS on NCIS, does anyone know which would be more valued by advertisers: winning the adult male 18-34 demo (Marvel) or winning both the overall 18-49 demo and the 25-54 demo (NCIS)? Isn’t it harder to reach the 18-34 male demo and therefore aren’t they a more valued subset of the overall 18-49 key demo? So, in other words, is the 18-34 male demo THE gold standard in ratings? How does the 18-34 female demo rank? Inquiring minds want to know:) Anyone?

    I guess the only thing I know with certainty is that anyone over the age of 50 is essentially dead already to advertisers — if you are 50 and up, condolences; those who are already dead are usually the last to know it:).
