I think they should move Goldbergs to Wednesday and put it after Modern Family. Then it can get the audiences it needs. If the Millers are performing strongly after that strong Big Bang Theory lead in on CBS, then ABC should try that similar formula with a Modern Family/ Goldbergs pairiing.

@Justin121, SPN and Originals are still around 1.0 and would still be competitive, unless they drop further, which could happen, but hasn’t yet.

ABC has to realize that comedies on Tuesday night is not working. It will be stupid to continuously schedule against New Girl. It is time to create a 2 hour comedy block on Friday. Shark Tank can be used to fill an hour on a weekday. ABC should announce soon that starting in January new episode of The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife will air on Wednesday. I would air two repeats of each show on Wednesday in December to get viewers use to the change.

    8pm The Middle
    8:30pm The Goldbergs
    9pm Modern Family
    9:30pm Trophy Wife

    8pm Last Man Standing
    8:30pm The Neighbors
    9pm Suburgatory
9:30pm Super Fun Night/Mixology(Premieres in March)

The Goldbergs is the funniest new comedy this season followed by Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The cast has great chemistry lead by the hilarious Wendi McLendon Covey. I love the relationship between the Grandfather and his Grandson. It is such a family comedy with heart.

This is unrelated but so far this season imo, the leading ladies of comedy are:

    1. Wendi McLendon-Covey- The Goldbergs
    2. Margo Martindale – The Millers
    3. Melissa McCarthy – Mike & Molly
    4. Patricia Henton – The Middle

I haven’t watched too many episodes of Mom to put Anna Faris on the list yet. I watched the series premiere and thought she was funny. But I have to see if she has remained consistent. I’m also looking forward to Raising Hope. I really like Martha Plimpton.

If ABC really is going to stick with comedies on Tuesday at midseason, and it certainly looks like they will, they should at least swap them with Shield. Several advantages:
    – whatever drama goes to 10pm gets the Shield lead-in rather than the low-rated comedy lead-in
    – the comedies are clearly bleeding from facing New Girl. Having them against the FOX male hour should help. Remember also that NBC will have comedies here at midseason again so it’s a three way shock yet again.
    – Shield would likely benefit from not facing NCIS and The Voice come midseason which could help to slowdown its bleeding.

It’s a low risk, high reward move.

The risk is SHIELD would lose even more viewers.

Trophy Wife is this year’s A23. It will never reach a large audience.

    @Ted Craig,

While possible, I say that moving it to a higher PUT hour (especially in spring when DST kicks over) and with considerably less competition means that it is unlikely!

Joe wrote: “I don’t want them to keep making children superhero shows.”

Actually, that’s my biggest beef with AOS: Six eps in and NO Superheroes (and very few supervillains). I’m not looking for Chris Evans or Robert Downey cameos, but a couple of C-level Marvel heroes (or villains!) would be welcome. Instead, they’ve fought South American rebels and… an alien virus. SMH

  • Ted Craig

I think you’re discounting the family factor.

  • Jamey

    I dont watch NCIS1 – only NCIS:LA… sso no 1 would bother me…

    Would Not bother me…

The Voice needs to perk up.

    @Ted Craig,

Families watch television at 9 too, just ask Modern Family. And your argument also serves to help the comedies if you want.

  • Ted Craig

    Older families watch MF.

I really don’t get the comparison between goldbergs and wonder years. Other than the fact they are narrated and offer a time period they are so very different. To me the wonder years was more of a drama. The focus of the show was more egocentric as well. Goldbergs is a light hearted comedy. One is not even pretending to be the other.

POI is danger of moving to Friday or Sunday and being cancelled very soon

Uh, why would CBS do that to their highest-rated 10:00 show?

Advertising contracts are changing you need to start looking more at 7 day viewing, and also take International Sales into consideration, not to mention online streaming of shows

As contracts change the networks will be able to monetize 30 day viewing

These forums have disintegrated. It’s sad. Hardly any insight and a whole heap of trolls just bashing away. Funny that the season is pretty much playing itself out against most predictions and rants and ill will stated here. Karma’s a savvy bitch.

AOS needs revamped. More action/intrigue; more Marvel! Less of the doey-eyed hacker — who gets more annoying with each episode. If Marvel wasn’t in the name of this series, would anyone recognize it as being connected to the Marvel universe?

Goldbergs and Trophy Wife are both victims of bad scheduling. ABC either needs to create a 4-hour Tuesday night comedy block — or move these to Wednesday night (the new shows there don’t have staying power).
