In Late-Night Metered Markets Tuesday night:

  • In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.8/8; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.6/7; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 2.0/6.

  • In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 1.0/5; "Late Show," 0.5/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.7/4.

  • From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.1/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

  • From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.5/6 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.3/5).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.6/4 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2).

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for  live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

The smaller the 18-49s ratings become, the more they will mean.

  • HalCapone

[“In a couple of years the 18-49 rating will mean nothing. Viewers and 25-54 demo mean more, but, in reality viewers mean the most.”]

I kinda hope Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,starts to pick up,I really like all of the superhero shows and comicbook inspired shows (like Arrow,The Tommorow People,The Walking Dead,Sleepy Hollow and Person Of Interest),that are on television, right now,but imo, Agents Of S.H.E.I.L.D. should be a little closer to The Marvel movies in tone and be little less “jokey” and “snarky”,if that happens then I think AoS would be received better by the fans, only time (and the ratings) will tell.

  • Aiden_Mathis

Like I said before,Trophy Wife is dead! It should not move to wednesdays. Suburgatory should take its former timeslot and Goldbergs should move to wed. 9:30.

  • cc

Is Law & Order a 2 hour episode tonight?

Nice to see Biggest Loser up, but with Ruben going home so soon, I doubt it will stay up. People were tuning in for him, wanting to see him get help.

  • D Pats

Not sure where that one poster’s take came from on the demo being worthless and CBS and it’s ‘total viewers’ being all that matters, but I guess Fox will just have to make due with the $190,000 per 30 second ad rate it gets for it’s “dead” Tuesday 9-10 comedies vs. the $140,000 CBS is getting for NCIS and its “beast” procedurals.

  • j

I have to watch Adam,Blake,Cee lo and Christina. The singers this season aren’t that good this season.POI is can’t miss tv.Moving it to 10 on tuesday isn’t a deal breaker as far as ratings go.

  • Networkman

CW: The Originals and Supernatural are very compatible. Great night of TV for the network

NBC: The Biggest Loser would help Thursday. The week is oversaturated with The Voice. 4 hours a week and the show is starting to wear thin. It is time to get Chicago Fire back on air in the 10pm slot.

CBS: Person of Interest held up nicely going against The Voice for a second week in a row. I hope it is adjusted up to 2.0

FOX: The network has to be very pleased that all the comedies held up after the break. I’m glad Brooklyn Nine-Nine was steady. Usually programs on FOX return lower after the World Series. New Girl and Mindy Project actually went up.

ABC: It is time to move The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife effectively immediately. I think the competition from FOX’s comedies are hurting them. The Goldbergs had a great episode and should have remained steady airing after an original episode of AOS. If ABC doesn’t make a move soon it will be too late for Trophy Wife. I don’t want it slipping under 1.0

The originals is getting so good. They should have elija in every scene he does not have to speek he can just sit there and read or fold his suits I don’t care I just like lookin at him.
I love Elijah.. I’m so happy he’s on the originals.. I’m loving the originals right now.. That and the blacklist are my top 2 new favorite shows this year..

  • Nikki

Nice and steady for TO… i actually like that show. I didnt think i would but its pretty good. Interested to see how Ravenswood did.. i hope it went up this week. Pretty good episode too.

  • j

It feels like comedies should be hurt less than dramas as they are generally quite standalone and can be picked up and dropped at any time without missing much, and they mostly don’t have cliffhangers that could piss you off because of how long it takes for them to conclude.

Lol, CBS had more than 4x the viewers of Fox yet Fox wins in 18-34 by 30%!

  • AllOfHerTw!st

Lol, CBS had more than 4x the viewers of Fox yet Fox wins in 18-34 by 30%!

Ralph Waite (the father from The Waltons) was on NCIS last night as Gibbs’ dad. Most people in the 18-34 demographic weren’t even born yet when The Waltons was on the air!

  • karin

so POI series low again against nothing? what a hit, can’t stand this show..CBS & Fox are boring as hell, seriously Dads,Mom,new x (ratings?) or singing real TV,or old shows for oldies NCIS for ever?

  • karin

Fox again without 10 PM’s show (easier) is ESPN + realTV sing a song.

  • Theisssuesarenow

POI is steady. steady on the cancellation track after it’s ratings lead it to Friday or Sunday.

fox has the second highest 18-34. This is very good…….

  • kcekada

AOS needs revamped — major cast chances and some actual Marvel characters would be nice. I love the Goldbergs and like Trophy Wife. I don’t know that they’ll ever get good numbers, though, in the current time slot. Maybe try the 8-9 slot on Tuesday. Or if numbers continue eroding — try it on Wednesdays instead.

  • George

agents of shield has one big fundamental problem..EVERYONE expected it to be a quasi-superhero program. not just another high tech team fighting weird criminals. this could just as easily been an update to the “man from uncle” fifty years later and not carry expectations never to be fulfilled.
