Update: The CW has issued a press release about the pick-ups of its fresh man drama series'.

THE CW ANNOUNCES FULL SEASON ORDERS FOR ALL THREE FRESHMEN SERIES: “THE ORIGINALS,” “THE TOMORROW PEOPLE” AND “REIGN

November 11, 2013 (Burbank, CA) – The CW has ordered full season pickups for all three of its freshmen series, THE ORIGINALS, THE TOMORROW PEOPLE and REIGN, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.

“In just a few seasons, we have built a much stronger primetime schedule.  Our on-air ratings are up year to year, and our digital viewing continues to grow exponentially,” said Pedowitz. “We're excited about the creative momentum the producers have established for all three of our new series, and now our fans will have the chance to see the full stories unfold for them this season. With the additional episodes ordered, plus two new dramas and new reality for midseason, we’ll be able to continue our commitment to adding more original programming all year long.”

Season to date on-air, The CW is up 9% year to year in total viewers, up 10% among adults 18-49, and is flat year to year in both adults and women 18-34. With DVR usage and digital viewing continuing to rise, 31% of The CW’s total broadcast audience now comes from time-shifted viewing after the original airdate. 40% of The CW's total overall audience for its season premieres this fall came from digital viewing. The CW's digital streaming of full episodes is up 50% season to date versus last season, and the three new series picked up today see 84% more digital viewing than The CW's new series last fall.

Multiple sources are reporting that the CW has picked up the back nine episodes of all three of its freshman dramas The Originals,  The Tomorrow People & Reign. Each show will air 22 episodes this season. The Originals is a big hit by CW standards, ranking as one of the network's top programs. The Tomorrow People and Reign's futures seemed less certain, as ratings for each show have declined significantly from their premieres.

No surprise about the Originals but a little surprised about the other 2 because now i wonder where they will put the 3 midseason shows. The Carrie Diaries only has 13 episodes so that will be over in January so something will move there and the 9 pm time slot on Fridays will be open as well because Nikita will be over at the end of the year too. I think they will put starcrossed to gether wih Beauty and the Beast because they are both love story type shows and move Heart of Dixie to Fridays with the new reality show Famous in Twelve.

I really admire what the CW are doing this year , amazing work and the full seasons pickup show respect to the viewers and they have enough room on their schedule

Goodbye TCD , Move B&B + Hart to Friday and fix Monday

  • Alan

Yay The Originals! TTP has to improve or it won’t have a second season. Reign is dead anyway. Bad news for Beauty and the Beast and The Carrie Diaries

  • Michael

Why are people saying reign is dead?
First of all reign got more total viewers this week than ttp and both got 0.6
Reign hasn’t dropped as much like ttp from it’s premiere

    @marcos

I don’t know about that, but I think Supernatural is a better lead-out than Arrow is a lead-in, and The 100 seems compatible with both. So I would go with SPN, either using the current The Originals timeslot (which I think it’s unlikely) or moving SPN to another night to help launch the new show.

I find it surprising that people think the CW will move Supernatural to Mondays midseason. I doubt they are willing to mess with the Tuesday success right now. It’s very hard to guess right now. And that’s all it will be, guesses. We have no way of knowing for sure. Beauty is for sure going to Fridays, that seems pretty certain. And unless Reign goes to Fridays too, then Hart of Dixie will have to be moved as well. But I doubt they want to premiere the two new shows back to back. Especially because they don’t even seem to fit together well IMO.

    I would personally do:
    Monday
    Star Crossed
    Hart of Dixie

    Thursday
    The Vampire Diaries
    The 100

    Friday
    Reign
    Beauty and the Beast

Congrats to The Originals and The Tomorrow People. So well deserved! I’m such a big fan of these 2 new hits on the CW.

  • Melanie

Great news for all three shows!

But it makes me wonder how much confidence the network has in the midseason shows (not a lot?)and where they intend to air the 100 and Star-Crossed?

Time slot sharing? No reruns? I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t air reruns of Arrow, TVD & SPN – those rate as well as the Monday line-up. Maybe BATB gets a hiatus and HOD pairs with Star-Crossed?

  • P3TE

Ermagerd I’m soo glad! The Originals and the Tomorrow People are awesome!

  • Cat

@ Omabin that is exactly what I think the CW should do come Feb. I really feel like that is their best bet. Why not try Reign on Fridays? I bet it could pull at least .4 and a million viewers. Let BatB finish out its run on Fridays or put it on ice until summer. Pretty sad TCD is tying it, if not doing better than it.

My prediction is that the carrie diaries, reign, beauty and the beast and maybe the tomorrow people will get cancelled. I tried watching the tomorrow people but can’t seem to get interested in it. Hart of dixie will get a final season next year and hopefully the flash and supernatural spin off get picked up with one more show getting picked up maybe for midseason either the izombie or hourman series gets picked up. The cw is sort of strong this season so it won’t be necessary to pick up 5 new shows next season. Also there is a slim chance the 100 might be a hit but really have no hope of starcrossed being a hit. Anyways these are my predictions and what hopefully happens next season.

Was hoping for news on The Tomorrow People. Glad it got picked up. That show is a lot of fun. I kind of enjoy The Originals, but it’s not quite must see TV yet. Haven’t started Reign yet. Just too much to watch, plus CW shows for some weird reason eat up 3-4% of my DVR space per episode.

  • Brandy

So Hapy for Reign & TO love them! But deadline last spring Reign was a limited series.I wonder where The 100,Star-Crossed,Famous in 12 Weeks will go?I also wonder if this says anything about CWs faith in thier Midseason shows.

  • Ram510

Reign? CW must plan on moving Reign to another time slot come mid season.

  • Thiago

I only think that they would move SPN to other nights because they’ve done it before to help freshman shows (of course it wasn’t on midseason) but I don’t think The Originals needs SPN anymore and it can do just fine on its own. I think if they wanna help freshman shows to be successful they should pair them with their strongest shows: TVD and SPN. :)

THE CW SHOULD BRING BACK H8R

  • Tom

“Why’d they order 22 episodes of BATB anyway?”

Mr. Gorman’s answer: “Beauty & The Beast ratings relative to other CW scripted shows continue to hold in the 90%+ range which is typically signals “likely to be renewed”.

Tom’s answer: Cancelling BATB would have required the CW to produce six new programs this season; the network didn’t have the budget for that.

  • starship

Pedowitz always said he wanted more original programming, it’s really not that hard to fit the new shows on the schedule. BATB will move to Fridays in mid-season of that I have no doubt and it will probably be paired with some reality/Whose Line/Seed. HoD can move to Mon @ 9 and Star Crossed can launch itself at 8 just like TCD last year. As for The 100, they’ll probably air TTP uninterrupted and premiere it after Arrow in March/April or they might try original scripted shows in summer it seems to be working well for the other youth oriented network (ABC Family).

  • KevinSW

Funny thing is, CW has a list of shows that were set to air mid-season spring.

Starcrossed and The 100 which are their scripted shows.

Then they have 22 Episodes of Who’s line which was said to start in the spring, along with Canadian Import Seed.

They also have reality shows Famous in 12 and Masters of Illusion which could get moved to Summer.

They got a stacked schedule curious to see how it all fits into each other.

DOH! This is what happens when you can’t make good decisions.
