Nikita final season

The CW didn't surprise the cancellation bear yesterday with its full season pickups of Tomorrow People, Reign and The Originals. Fans of the former two shouldn't get too confident. The CW picked up full seasons of Ringer and The Secret Circle in Fall, 2011, and the bear caught them in May, 2012.

The lack of new episodes ordered this season for The Carrie Diaries either marks it as defacto canceled and playing out the string, similar to  Life Unexpected in 2010, or  certain to be canceled, depending on which version of its situation you believe.

Only 13 episodes were ordered for The Carrie Diaries this season, putting it in the same "spring show sophomore" situation as Life Unexpected in 2010. Since no more episodes were ordered yesterday, the bear counts the show as defacto canceled and playing out the string, again, just like Life Unexpected in 2010.

However, after the CW news was out yesterday many messaged the bear claiming that the CW had announced last spring that there would only be 13 episodes of Carrie this season no matter what. If true, the bear missed that announcement, because he certainly would have noted it as nonsensical at the time. It makes no sense for the CBS/WB syndication factory that is the CW to cap veteran shows at 13 episodes/season. But if that is somehow true, yesterday's CW announcement wasn't bad news for the show, just no news for the show, and the bear won't argue with those who'd say the show is simply certain to be canceled in May, instead of already canceled now.

Those who'd like to note "You were wrong last year, you'll be wrong again!" should stick around.

With three seasons complete, the CW syndication gods will demand that Hart Of Dixie be renewed for a fourth season. Maybe it'll be a short one like Nikita's, or maybe not. The bear doesn't get into predicting episode orders.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I dont care if TCD is cancelled or is certain to be cancelled, but I want it to be cancelled pronto. Together with BATB.
I do think Reign have a higher chance of survival than TTP.
Lets hope Starcross tanks and Reign will be the only surviving CBS show, which would guarantee its renewal.

  • Charmed

TCD still gets mentioned in press releases, it’s very much alive. I don’t consider a show cancelled, until it’s all over the web.

  • Charmed

@Candy The thing is, it’s not a prediction, Bill’s trying to pass it off as cancelled when this is not the case

  • Hardline_Pro

Wow, TBTN has hit a new low. I’m all in favor of joking about the bear but TCD hasn’t been canceled yet. This is false reporting.

    Gotta agree, TCD is canceled

  • Brandy

Also, Pedowitz said clearly “We may not go go more than 13 again this season” .

  • M

@Candy exactly if it was a prediction it would say certain to be cancelled which is not the case here.. This site is passing off the show as cancelled when it is clearly not

  • Samuel

Isn’t The Carrie Diaries a limited series? Not that it’s any excuse… it deserves to be cancelled with the numbers it’s pulling, especially as a limited series. If it’s renewed again I’ll be very surprised.

  • Brandy

@Scanal because 1. Of its very full schedule .They still have The 100,Star -Crossed,Famous in 12 Weeks,Masters of Illusion,Seed,Whose Line to get on the air 2.It was announced officially that Carrie,The Hundred would only have 13 episodes a season and be for limited runs/be limited series3.Mark clearly said”we may not go with more than 13this season” & We looked at it as a limited series last season too”.4.for Carrie to get to syndication, it would take 5 or more seasons.5.Mark said a couple years ago he wanted to try cable length seasons after the Ringer .

  • Maya

TCD is dead, anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.

Reign will be cancelled, or get the pitty renewal. Its losing over half the audience of TVD, so its not doing better than BATB. If it moves to another night next year it’ll collapse even more. No point in keeping a turd

  • Maya

@Alessio: there is no excuse for it being a Friday show, cause it would get the same crappy ratings any other night… its doing terrible, period.

  • Contrarian

‘You were wrong last year, but I doubt you’re wrong now!’

Sadly fact is, if Carrie Diaries was a successful limited series, they’d announce a renewal like Sleepy Hollow’s – history says ending at midseason with no word is a de facto death sentence.

  • ivan

i dont think that tcd will be canecelled maybe renewed for another short season but not cancelled ,the show is on friday and getting the same ratings as the shows on monday and lets not forget how many people watch it all over the world becouse is a part of the sex and the city franchise and not obly that but for cw on fridays that enough i’m not sure maybe they wont renew it but i dont think they will cancel it. For tcd 13 e a season is enough:)and for now for the cw 0.3 on friday is good enough i think

  • Brandy

Also, deadline said Carrie Diaries episode order was automatically 13 cause it was a Midseason show when it reported CD,Nikita were renewed

  • Jared

I like The Carrie Diaries but my biggest problem with this show from the very beginning was that fans of SATC at this point are probably too old to watch this show and young fans which the show is geared towards were probably never big fans of the original. I was always under the impression that TCD was a limited series with 13 episode seasons.

  • Ram510

If TCD is canceled, AnTM ending this week and Nikita only has 6 episodes, what will CW do with it’s Fridays after Nikita? Will the night be all repeats, or will they place Reign there and let Star Crossed take the Thursday spot? Or will the put a reality show on Fridays?

  • Maximillian

Carrie was spackle for Fridays. Anybody who thinks the show is getting renewed is wishfully thinking. After reading some of the comments though, I think I could make an entire board of Fan Excuse Bingo for TCD. Comparisons to Nikita are also dumb, Nikita had 3 full seasons and is still buyable in syndication and will do well on Netflix. Carrie will have the equivalent of 1 full season at the end of its run this year with pathetic ratings.

If Pedowitz wanted more episodes, they would have ordered more. It isn’t like they had huge plans for that spot for Spring. Reign was ‘limited series’ and picked up for more. They would have done the same for Carrie if they and any faith in the show. I see them burning off BATB Fridays since they have a commitment to the season and putting a midseason replacement on Mondays.

  • Keith

I have a bridge to sell to anyone that believes TCD is getting renewed. They gave it another shot and the ratings (in the fall when shows are usually higher) are horrible. You really think the CW is gonna renew a show getting a .3 and stick with it for over 6 years (assuming 13 episode “limited” seasons) in order to get to syndication? It will be pulling a .1 or 0 in its 6th season. Scandal was supposed to be limited last year and when the ratings held/increased, ABC gave it a full season order.

  • A

Hey, Bill, would you mind re-wording your disclaimer about Nikita/HOD? I’m not sure why it was renewed, but clearly the syndication gods were not the prevailing force behind the Nikita pickup since what they demand (88 episodes) was not met. Obviously The CW has done short final seasons for syndication purposes previously, but both of those shows (One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl) had already hit 88 episodes so the additional ones were just more money. The additional six episodes for Nikita won’t give them a stronger selling point because it’ll only give them 73 episodes. Basically, in the case of HOD/Nikita, by saying the syndication gods demand another season, you are saying that HOD will be getting a full season order so it will reach 88 episodes. So yeah. Unless I’m missing something..

  • Billiam

Oh, Boy, let the flamers begin!!

The TCD fans are almost as fanatic as the Roswell fans were…
