ABC Posts Gains Across Its Wenesday Lineup, 'Modern Family' is Number 1 Show Among Adults 18-49

ABC Wednesday Prime (8-11pm – 7.1 million and 2.2/6 in AD18-49): ABC’s regular Wednesday line-up returned after the prior week’s preemption to deliver a strong second place Adults 18-49, beating Fox by 29% (1.7/5) and NBC by 57% (1.4/4).  On its first original telecast in 3 weeks, ABC’s Modern Family came back as Wednesday’s #1 TV show in Adults 18-49, finishing as the night’s top-rated series on each first-run telecast this season.


The Middle (8-8:30pm – 8.9 million and 2.3/7 in AD18-49):  At 8pm, ABC’s The Middle was up 11% in Total Viewers and 5% in Adults 18-49 over its most recent telecast, drawing is biggest audience since its season premiere and equaling a best-since-premiere rating with young adults – since 9/25/13.  In addition, the show hit a new season high in Adults 18-34 to tie its highest rating in 1 year – since 11/7/12.   The Middle ranked #1 in its half-hour across all key Adult demos (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54).


Back in the Game (8:30-9pm – 6.4 million and 1.8/5 in AD18-49): In the 8:30pm half-hour, ABC’s Back in the Game grew 5% in viewers and 6% in Adults 18-49 from its last telecast.   


Modern Family (9-9:30pm – 10.6 million and 3.8/10 in AD18-49):  More than doubling its lead-in at 9pm (+111%), ABC’s Modern Family dominated its slot in Adults 18-49, outdelivering runner-up CBS’ Criminal Minds by 41% (2.7/7).   Modern Family was up in Total Viewers (+3%) and held steady in Adults 18-49 with its most-recent original’s Fast Affiliate numbers (10.3 million and 3.8/10 on 10/23/13) .


Super Fun Night (9:30-10pm – 5.9 million and 2.1/6 in AD18-49):  In the 9:30pm half-hour, ABC’s Super Fun Night built over its last broadcast by 15% in Total Viewers and by 24% in Adults 18-49, with its most-watched telecast in 4 weeks – since 10/16/13. The ABC freshman comedy took second in its half-hour among Adults 18-49, leading by double-digits over Fox’s The X Factor by 17% (1.8/5)  and NBC’s L&O: SVU by 24% (1.7/5).


Nashville (10-11pm – 5.4 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):  At 10pm, ABC’s Nashville increased from its last airing by 4% in Total Viewers and by 7% in Adults 18-49.  In addition, the show jumped 30% in Adults 18-34 to match a 5-week high – since 10/9/13. The ABC drama finished #1 in its hour with Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-34/W18-49).  Jumping 67% on average in the L+7 Adult 18-49 ratings, Nashville is ABC’s biggest percentage gainer this season and places among the Top 10 broadcast series overall.  The ABC sophomore drama gets a much bigger playback lift than its time-slot competitor CSI (67% vs. 50%), catching the CBS drama season to date at a 3.0 L7 rating.

    They make it sound like Nashville is a sure renewal. You had better not be teasing us ABC! Nashville better get a season 3 :)

    Nashville does awesome DVR numbers, maybe it will be renewed. Still clueless at why they cancelled Back in the Game. It’s a very solid performer, and better with retention from THe Middle than SFN is with MF.

    I think there is a lot of upswing on Nashville.
    It is building on international, there is the music publishing part.
    There are credits in filming in Nashville that offsets production costs.
    It is the only show I watch live, I also purchased the season pass from Itunes.


    Truly impressive stats for The Middle.

    Nashville is no Smashville no matter how you spin it.

    Not surprised Back In The Game got cancelled, the show gets worse every week and has certainly earned its cancellation, good riddance. Even though according to you guys it was up 5% it’s still 30% lower than The Neighbors, show that filled the same spot last year. Also in 18-49 still very poor. Goodbye Back In The Game :)
